Oh, good! Now burn-in might be a problem?

Like they addressed the Bluetooth issues on the first generation Pixel? Not trying to be snarky, just watch your back and be prepared for them to potentially not address it.

Don't forget about us nexus 6p owners who are still struggling with battery issues that Google decided to blame on huawei to avoid dealing with covering repairs out of warranty. I purchased 2 nexus 6ps and one is experiencing the issue for sure. The other phone is a little newer so it will probably experience the problem later on. Google did give pixel xl's to some that complained enough within the right amount of time so there is one positive but unfortunately they only did that for people who purchased the phone from google. I bought both of my phones from authorized retailers but not from google so I was out of luck. Made up my mind after that experience to not buy another google device until they get better quality control.

This isn't bluetooth. Honestly, this is the screen and it's getting a ton of coverage. This is so publicly known, they'll replace my device if there is a problem.

This is the screen protector I got on amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WW69PS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. it is decent enough until I find a better one. I have one of the official made by google tempered screen protectors pre-ordered from Power Support directly (you cant pre-order it on google store yet, ships October 27) You can pre-order the Power Support screen protector now from them directly (just search for Power Support's main website) Here is the link to the one on the google store which is coming soon. I have to think it will be quality as it is certified by google, but who knows. I will report back when I receive it. https://store.google.com/product/brilliant_tempered_glass

Watching closely. The color shift was mostly a non issue, but this is huge. My Nexus 6P just recently started showing a super-faint burn in of the status bar after over 2 years. Having the Pixel do this after only a few days is totally uncool.
Haven't canceled the Panda yet, but it's getting pretty likely.

EDIT: Against my better judgement, I canceled the Panda and ordered a Pixel2. Probably a dumb move. The good news is that I'll get it a month sooner (in a few days from now). Hopefully they work out (or debunk) all the Pixel2 issues and I can grab one on a big sale later on. That Back to School sale had the original Pixels at half off earlier this year.

No worries. Everyone makes more phones every day. Not worth stressing out over. Enjoy your device!

I've been reading smart phone forums for a good number of years. Never have I seen such disparity between the reviews (which are stellar) and the forums (which are melting down). Ironically, before signing onto the forum, I saw this article in my news feed (calling the Pixel 2s the best phones ever):

https://www.androidheadlines.com/20...d-pixel-2-xl-review-cant-get-much-better.html

I've had my XL2 now since Thursday. Love it. No issues. And given the warranty and the insurance, I couldn't be less worries.

Do yourself and us a favor and look at the screen on the Note 8 next time you come by a store carrying it. You will realize what's possible in 2017 (and it looks like the iPhone X will have the same type panel, made by Samsung) and understand why your Pixel 2 XL screen is relatively terrible. It will be obvious to you immediately.

The apologists are strong on this one. Jeez. God forbid people state their opinions on moving away from a $1,000 device that isn't living up to its value. Of course, value is completely subjective. Just can't see how you can be ok with paying that much for a mess of a display, especially when other manufacturers are providing killer deals right now.

I pray that Google gets this right. I switch to another device and, if Google fixes this mess, I'll hop back on. But one week in, and it already isn't looking good for them.

It already was obvious to me. But I wanted the quick updates, security patches, Google Lens, etc. so I was able to see past the blue tint and discoloration. However, with more recent news of the burn-in, it has become evident that, in my opinion, Google botched this phone and I can get better value elsewhere.

I'm with you, so far this is the best phone I've ever had, by a long shot! And I've had flagships by Samsung and HTC, this one is head and shoulders above the rest.

I am fully aware that Samsung makes the best display panels on the planet.

But that's only one factor, at least to me. I understand that for some people if the display isn't the best on the planet they just can't be happy. I bear them no ill will, I hope they can find a phone that will make them happy.

But for me, the display is only one factor. The software for me has a much bigger impact on my day to day satisfaction with a phone. And the Pixel 2 is the best Android software experience available on the planet.

So pointing out how much better the screen is on the Note 8 will not really sway me, and I'm guessing that me pointing out how much better the software is on the Pixel will sway you.

Just lets just agree to disagree, you enjoy your Note 8 and I'll enjoy my Pixel 2 XL.

Cheers!

After that, he should hit the Bixby button that talks to a useless virtual assistant.

I'm not making excuses for google. I am monitoring my phone closely for issues (I'm a software test engineer, I know what to do and what to look for ), but I'm not going to pretend the Samsung has miraculously figured out skinning android. We all have things we want. I love the pure Android experience, but I want this screen size, this camera, and no compromises on the software side.

I have the burn in issue. I've only had my new pixel 2 XL for 5 days and it's already showing up. I'm not sure whether to call warranty replacement yet, or wait a little bit until maybe they fix this issue with a new hardware run? I'm not sure what to do

Return it for a refund and look for a different phone. I guarantee you that it will, at best, take months for Google to resolve this issue, and at worst (also unfortunately most likely) the issue will never be resolved. The 12-month cycle for new phones is too fast for major issues like this to be addressed.

  • Do yourself a favor and try to remove all the bloatware on the Note 8.
  • Do yourself a favor and try to reach the fingerprint scanner on the Note 8.
  • Do yourself a favor and wait 6 - 9 months for software upgrades on the Note 8.
  • Do yourself a favor and try not to hit the Bixby button every time you pull the Note 8 out of your pocket.
  • Do yourself a favor and wait a full two minutes for your phone to boot whenever you restart the Note 8.

I'm coming from an S7 Edge and had an S6 before that. So I'm well aware of what Samsung screens look like. But the fact of the matter is I haven't thought about the screen once in the five days I've owned my Pixel XL 2. I just haven't. So if you love the Note 8, go buy an 8 and enjoy it. Cheers.

Right. See, the display is a bit annoying. I wish Google would have done better but we shouldn't pretend the answer is the note 8. Pixel buyers, especially early adopters like us, by and large buy the Pixel for the pure android experience. So, yeah we're all disappointed, but to a lot of us, replacing the phone with a Samsung is counterproductive. I came from iPhone. If I wanted a good screen above all, I'd go back to iPhone because Samsung isn't great at software.

In the end, competition is a good thing. And the simple fact of the matter is we've never had any one phone, since the early days of the iPhone, win every category. Hey, I would love the quad-DAC and headphone jack of the V30. I would love the screen of S8. I would love the pure aesthetics of the Essential phone. We all weight things differently. For me, the Pixel XL 2 is the best option.

What is the point here? Samsung has the best screens and just about everyone knows it. They are awesome.

You are telling someone that is enjoying his phone and who is happy with the display to go out of there way to compare it to a potentially better screen in hopes of , what? Making them not enjoy it? Seriously, if users are good with the display then that is all that matters.

You're not wrong, there is some of that. But it goes both ways too. God forbid someone is happy with the display and state their opinion of enjoying with without being told the display is "trash" or something. The force is strong both ways, such are the forums :-)

I'll stick with My S8+ and endure hours and hours of the Android Central Podcast crew defending yet another issue with the "never quite finished Google product saga" I guess it's down to 2 Manufactures that can sell $800.00 + phones and only one with good customer service..
