Okay, I admit...

I "upgraded" to the Pixel 4 from the 3. I really miss the fingerprint sensor. Face unlock works most of the time, but I'm finding it simply takes too long. The fingerprint sensor was very fast. Also, with the Pixel 3 I was able to register my wife's fingerprints so she could quickly unlock my phone as well. With Face Unlock, you can only store 1 face so now she has to use the PIN code every time. This was a step backwards IMO.

We see what deals come soon for holidays, also interested if there be pix 4a probably be without face Id and just rear fingerprint scanner

This is a good point also. If they say "Hey you, give me your 3XL and you can have this 4XL for $300" or something like that, I might be more inclined. Very cheap and a good way to upgrade the phone. I highly doubt that will happen but you never know. I also didn't consider the 4a as well. I will be keeping my eyes open for that. Definitely a good call!!

Ohhh only one face? No good. My wife also has her own fingerprints registered on my device b/c she'll use it for the camera over her S8. I wish they had kept this technology instead of the radar thing. I mean, will people really even use that? I can see the potential but right now, meh. Everything I've seen it used for is not anything I currently do on my phone. Plus if I can snooze an alarm by waving my hand, I'd be more inclined to snooze it 9 times instead of the usual 2-3 I do now having to reach and get pinpoint accuracy lol

Hmmm... I hadn't thought about the "only store 1 face" issue. I likely don't care about that, but still...

The face unlock was significantly slower than the fingerprint sensor on my ancient Pixel XL. I could have gotten past this, but there were a few scenarios where it performed particularly poorly, or not at all:
  • In a dark room
  • Wearing my motorcycle helmet
  • In a windy area (presumedly my moving hair was a problem)
  • In my car (no idea why it was so bad here)
I really wanted to like the Pixel 4 XL, but between the face unlock issues and the battery running low within 4 hours of a full charge (making no calls), I decided to send it back and am waiting on a Pixel 3 XL.

What Bank did you email? I use Chase among others.

Just adding my $.02 ... I bank with Barclays and received an update yesterday via play store. The update simply added support for face unlock. Hoping others will follow soon.

It doesn't work like that. You won't have all the false opening. I do missed the second profile for my wife but she know password so it no biggie. Also in the dark it work real good.

I really like the new Face Unlock my only issue is it does not work with my dark rayban sunglasses. I have to take them off every time I have to unlock my phone.

I hope they make update it to the way iPhones work. Where it won't work if your eyes are closed or with sunglasses on. And If I turn off the Require Attention option it will then work with sunglasses on or if my eyes are closed. Right now the Pixel is a mix of both. I know it works for some people with sunglasses but probably because their lenses are not as dark.

EDIT: I did a quick test. and it turns out it's my hat that's really throwing things off. If I'm wearing a hat with sunglasses it does not work and works as soon as I take off my sunglasses because I'm assuming it's seeing more of my face. With my Sunglasses on and the hat off it still works. so it looks like it's mainly the hat not the sunglasses. Makes sense though now that I understand what's happening. The iphone also threw my off since it works with both on.

Funny I just installed Barclays and it hasn't got biometrics enabled at all.
Are you in the UK?

Yes, I believe they should have included Fingerprint sensor, which I prefer the most along with password or pattern. This is first time, I have skipped purchase of Google phone since Nexus One, right on release. Actually I cancelled my order, that was supposed to be delivered Oct 24-25. Will watch through until holidays.

I am not a big fan of photo unlock. Google may have their reasons (cost or integration complexity) or just iPhone copy cat.

Both would have been nice.

Once you have the muscle memory it does not really matter.

I really liked the front fingerprint placement of my Moto Z Force
