On the GS6. What's more of a deal breaker for you, no removable battery or no SD card?

I believe removable battery is a key feature. It's good for people who wants to keep their phone for more than 2 years.. And good for switching batteries quickly. I used to have an iPhone 5 and kept it for 2 years before upgrading to note 4 and the battery didn't hold a good charge anymore.

Re: Does anything worry you about the Galaxy S6?

The 6 plus, in comparison to the 6 has excellent battery life. I only need to charge my phone every other day.

If the battery life is the same as the S5 it won't be a problem as the S5 has pretty good battery life.

I was only teasing you.

Many people complain about not having a removable battery in their next Galaxy.

I would really like to have one, however, if not having one means better battery and better and nicer design, than I'm okay.

The real deal breaker for me would probably be not having an SD card.

What do you think?

I was all geared up to walk in to the store and buy a new S6 phone. Been waiting since last year.
But now that its not waterproof. My bubble is busted. I live around the water.
They need to quit building just phones.
They need to start building custom phones only.
The morey don't like the design
The more the phone cost and the more things you want in it.
The higher the price goes up.
Think the day is in the future that you will see this happen.
And the cost of the phones needs to go up in Price so we don't have so many people wanting to make changes that everybody else didn't want.

I know. I wonder what ads samsung will bring out now though. I enjoyed their anti IPhone ads they were fun.

I like having the ability to swap batteries and sd cards. We will just have to see how well the s6 does in real time performance. Samsung said that they toned down touchwiz alot so it can be optimized for the battery. But I'm definitely not feeling the device. Plus I'm not sure if I can completely invest in Samsung "cloud services" it has not earned the reputation like Apple even though Apple has its faults as well...

Amazing Verizon Galaxy Note 4

For me the battery is a real deal breaker. I still have a S3, I replaced the battery about 1.5 years in. It got me an extra 3 hours a day replacing it. That was a $7 fix that took under a minute. Also having a removable battery is great for those rare events when your phone locks up and the power button is not responding.

The memory is a tough call, I have a 64gb card in my S3, yeah I could just buy the 64gb S6 but we all know their memory is way more dollars than buying a micro-SD memory card. Also selling the phone with the larger memory models won't yield the same return value. 64gb phones 3 years from now are going to be worth very little versus what Samsung will charge for the 64gb/128gb models.

And today's batteries are rated for up-teen thousands of charges. I wouldn't worry too much about the battery - with other manufacturers going with non-removable batteries the process has come a long way in terms of durability.

lol, no, battery technology hasn't "come a long way". Chemical process hasn't suddenly began to defy laws of thermodynamics, and no battery is rated for up-teen thousands of charges before losing its capacity.

If you have link, show em.

What if Samsung stayed with their traditional design language on S6 (both removable battery, sd card slot and just improved internals but with the same plastic cover design)? I think they would face much greater backlash than these complaints and can't stop downward sales trend this year. That would make iterative, marginally improved M9 look like spectacular again. Whether we like or not, general public simply favors slim uni-body design over functionality with boring design. S5 is very good piece of hardware internally but its boring design doesn't work any more in market. We are probably less than 2% of customers. So Samsung had to make radical changes on design. I don't like these changes either but I'm fine with internal memory if it's 64Gb or more.

I just can't see the battery as a deal breaker, I don't know a single person who replaces their batteries. This is from a general public perspective, of course the ones that hang on these forums are harder core types that work the heck out of their phones so the noise level is really ratcheting up from that camp, but the average Joe is oblivious to this stuff IMO.

The Deal Breaker for me, is the removable battery AND the sd card..

I just hope and pray that they don't shame the upcoming NOTE 5 like that...

For me, it's the SD card...and that is coming from someone who currently having stupid SD error card issues with my S4! However, that being said, we are about to move to a rural community without great internet service and spotty cell reception. I listen to a lot of music on my phone (especially when I fly), so it would mean buying a S6 with a lot more capacity (and at many more $$$). My photos sync to DropBox so they are not an issue, but my music is a biggie.

Very disappointed, and with Samsung's poor track record with batteries, not having the option for a removal back is probably going to be a deal breaker for me. I've always had an Android -- started with the original Samsung Fascinate, then to the S3, now S4, and thought I would be going to the S6. I hate to say this, but I may actually look at switching to an iPhone.

I consider these changes to have the same effect on Android as many years ago when we had the choice between Betamax and VHS formats on VCRs. VHS ultimately emerged as the pre-eminent format, and I'm afraid Apple's ios will do the same with smartphones. Of course the alternative could see a major bump in sales for the S5 and Note phones for Samsung...

Re: Does anything worry you about the Galaxy S6?

My only fear now, hearing about the S6, is how bad the Note5 will be. If they go the same route with the Note5, I think I'll be stuck with my Note2 for a few more years. The lack of SD storage and a non-servicable battery is definitely a deal killer for me. My wife may probably upgrade to the 6 since she's not really into much more than pictures and such and can easily download onto other sources.

I store lots of things like Podcasts, Ebooks, and pictures. The internal storage limit gets exceeded quickly for me and to be honest, Kit Kat has been playing Heck with me ever since I accidentally updated my phone from JellyBean.

I am Samsung Fanboy, and Note Crazy.. I feel the same way. I am waiting for the Note 5, and I hope they don't ditch the SD Card, or even worst, the removable battery. With a removable battery, I have logged 40 hour sessions with my Note 4..Plugged to a TV, playing movies and only stopping for about 5 or 6 seconds to switch batteries. Can't do that with a non-removable battery. When it runs dead, you have to recharge, period! On the Note 5, just give us more power, more ram, and storage, and I could live with a 6 inch screen too...

Re: The Galaxy S6: Has Samsung gone nuts?!

The Galaxy S6 shows a dramatic departure for Samsung devices. Out goes plastic, in goes metal and glass. Out goes a removable battery, in goes a fixed one. Out goes a microSD card slot, in goes......nothing. Just more internal flash storage + SSD hybrid.

Now, I'm a sucker for premium builds and I genuinely think the S6 is a nice looking device (although I still heavily question the design resemblance to the iPhone 6, especially the sides) but I think Samsung ditched quite a lot of what made the S5 a great smartphone.

Some things that are very questionable to me are;
  • Having a fixed battery instead of a removable one, which is a concern when the battery may wear out faster due to quick charging and when you desperately need a charge but can't do a battery swap.
  • Making said battery smaller and pairing it with a power-hungry 1440p screen. I'm not so sure that the 14nm Exynos chip will save more power than that screen chews through.
  • Omitting the microSD card slot and apparently (in Europe) charging 100 euros extra for 64GB and another 100 euros extra for 128GB.
  • No more IP water-resistance and dust-proofing.

Now, I still think that Samsung made a nice phone, but I think they made quite a lot of compromises to make it. A microSD card slot on the side would be nice. HTC has done it on the M8 and M9, so it isn't that hard, right?

Your thoughts? And yes, I'm prepared for the incoming shower of torches and pitchforks from Samsung fans.

I agree with you!
I have the GS5 and love it, I think the GS6 should've kept the water resistant and a SD card slot.

I am going to miss both. I like the fact that if something happens to your phone, you can remove SD card and still have your files. I like removable batteries too but if this battery has enough life I will be OK with it.

Both, but more so on the lack of external SD card. Looks like i'll be switching to HTC or LG.

I just really doubt that the majority of consumers care about removable batteries or SD cards. I do believe that Samsung researched this, as they alluded to during the Unpacked Event, and found that the majority of consumers care more about premium build and materials than they do about removable batteries and storage.

Looks like the S6 Edge will be the perfect upgrade from my Xperia Z3 Compact in a couple of months.

I'm not bothered with waterproofing/SD/removable battery - I just want a sleek more up to date device.
