On the GS6. What's more of a deal breaker for you, no removable battery or no SD card?

"Entitlement"? This is a luxury but also a necessity. If someone's going to spend a bundle for a mini computer it should at least have the hardware they want/need. To me just changing the form over function is a stupid move with data costs so high. Onboard storage isn't good enough when you have to do a factory reset, especially if your phone is the only computer you have.
What I don't get is that the S5 is still for sale and likely will be even this time next year. We've had no solid evidence that Samsung is going to stop producing/selling it anytime soon. Not only that but the Note 4, Note Edge, and G3 are also still for sale right now.

Given that, why is this such an issue?

The issue is who wants an Old Slow Phone.
Newer phones has newer batterirs and faster processors.
Faster Processors and 64 bit was what everybody was hoping for in the S5.
But it seems everybody at Samsung was asleep and didn't release it.
They put out a BS phone to get by.

The simple truth is you have to make a choice now. Removables in the S5 or Note series or G3 or new features in the S6. If Samsung is following the forums at Android Central (and that is questionable to me) then they know just how upset some are.

... and my Notes and G3 are hardly old and slow, YMMV.

Re: Is it me, or did Samsung drop the ball on this?

as others have pointed out - some users are often away from a reliable signal, any signal, or free/home wifi
there is an ongoing use case for wanting/needing to be able to store ones music, videos, podcasts, ebooks & other files outside of "the cloud"
Clearly Samsung or whoever have the right to make their own business decisions, change direction etc but it seems to me (as has also been posited here) this is not free-market customer driven - e.g. iPhone MacApple users never had a choice so never knew anything different - it's a hegemonistic monopoly, effectively a closed-shop cartel
I'm no Aunty Dolly ignoramus or luddite. I bought the first iPhone the day it was released, but I state loud and clear - I don't want your stupid cloud. I don't want to pay my real money aka data charges to sync my files up and down and up down again across multiple devices (even when I can)

I came to Samsung very recently on account of the Gear S. I was unenamoured by the UX on my new S4, noted reports suggesting the S6 would remove much of the "bloatware" but in the meantime was liking the idea i could put all my "media" (currently stuck in iTunes) on a micro SSD that i could also use in my Macbook(s) or whatever new compatible Windows laptop that might enable me to escape Apple. I also did think "replaceable battery? yeah thats another plus"

Why do people buy new phones. Because they got the newest technology out. Better newer Batteries. Faster processors, and operate better and come with newer apps and equiptment.
If a new phone came out ever 6 months a lot of us would go buy it.
The technology is there. They just ain't releasing it.
They are just milking us taking their time.

If I wanted an older phone I would go open the Dauym drawer and pull it out and stick the sims card in it.
Don't need folks pushing me backwards with older phones.

Well, certainly you know by know what choices are available. We all know it doesn't have a removable battery or SD Card support.

Just keep what you have now or go with HTC or LG.

Think for the next year. Samsung will get emails from me all year long.
I'm retired and will give me something to do.

Samsung didn't hit a home run with me.

Well, I think we're starting to beat a dead horse. The decision has indeed been made. I'm not saying you have to be happy about it. I am saying that it looks like the S6 is not for you but that there are indeed alternatives. If you choose to reject those alternatives than I can only wish you the very best of luck. You said you've taken the time to let Samsung know that you are displeased with their current design choice. Perhaps they'll consider that.

Thanks.

I'm looking to hope people at samsung sends the messages up the ladder. Problem is people up the ladder a lot of the time never hear what the little person says.

Re: more than 73.6% of people are upset that Samsung removed the SD card slot... will this affect sa

The S6 will sell bucket loads. But not to me.

Been out for 8 yrs. Ran out of places to run to.
Being retired it tough.
Run out of money or things to do. Hehe.

Can't see retiring until I'm no longer incapable of working. My HVAC sub is 83, still in the field, kicking a$$ and taking names. He looks like he's in his 60's. Keeps him full of purpose. I see some others that are just lost after retiring. Oh well, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

In the meantime you should look into the G3 or the new G4, as I thought, LG is starting the leak campaign on time...after the S6 and M9 announcements.

Re: more than 73.6% of people are upset that Samsung removed the SD card slot... will this affect sa

Yes, and I'm sure the 128 gb option will be cheaper to add than merely buying an sd card on sale right? No. I also like being able to transfer files directly to and from sd card by taking it out and putting it in ultrabook sd card slot. Using a cable to transfer files is a pita. Google wants to force all of us onto their cloud options.

Nothing new there. Apple and Microsoft as well.

i still don't see that - outside of Korea.

- Android users have a wide rapidly expanding choice of much more affordable less-locked in android phones with more flexibility including more attractive user interface?

- significant numbers of long-term Samsung users might be delighted by the new camera or whatever, the new robustness (aka fragility) form factor and will rush to embrace a quantum leap in acquisition costs?

- neutral prospective purchasers (or even existing iPhone users) might think "yeah thats a really cool phone, it looks like an iPhone but is allegedly a bit better ? - I'm a bit cashed-up so I'm going to buy one - for $1000!"

True, the older phones will still be available for awhile. There's not an immediate danger of being without the removables. I think it's a matter of this trend being very disturbing. But Samsung is only one manufacturer. As long as others include the features I want, one of them will eventually get my money. I don't think I'll buy another phone without the swappable battery and microsd. It's ultimately too inconvenient for the way I've been using my phones.

The Active would be ok, but they could really just have a Galaxy S6 Pro, with swappable battery, SD card, water resistant, etc.

To many darn phones now. I think maybe the active should break off on it's own (Galaxy Active?) and Samsung figure out where the rest of it is going. Just don't be messing around to much with my Note. ;)
