Optimizing G4 battery thread

Here are my GSAM stats for today....still very disappointing :(

I fixed my overzealous Android OS keep awake times by uninstalling the Fenix Twitter app. Even if you don't have that particular app installed, look for that type app (another Twitter app, Instagram maybe, Facebook...which sucks all the time anyway) as your possible issue. It may be stuck checking for updates or something (only my guess as to my issue).

It didn't show as overuse in the actual Fenix app's battery use. I also think it's possioble I could reinstall Fenix and it will not do the same thing, but I haven't bothered to try that as yet (it was originally restored from an LG Backup file).

I know the frustration. It was a lot of guessing and trial and error to figure out my issue.

I bet that is the cause of your keep awake issue. It's not ideal, but maybe try disconnecting it for a charge cycle and see if anything changes. Be a start to troubleshooting.

Yeah that was my next thought...even though I find my G watch R invaluable I can try without it for a day or two

I plugged my G4 into PC's USB slot for about a minute to get the wakelock data (no root method) and the other screen shots while it was plugged in so it wouldn't reset the info. It looks to me from the wake locks info: home depot, mobile performance meter, and possibly that lge exchange thing whatever it is; are waking my G4 more than needed. I will probably test by disabling then for a few days to see what happens after I test using tasker to control auto sync. I found a mini example of how to use tasker to control when auto sync happens. May be a good compromise to totally turning it off.

Here's the Gsam info for reference.

And androids battery stats. Google play services seems to be a big contributor to wake time too. Not sure if controlling auto sync will impact that or not. I'll try to remember to report back after testing it out.

And CPU spy details for uptime (I rebooted this morning so everything was fresh. 8 hours of deep sleep and 5 hours of wake time only almost 2 hours of that I was actually using it.

If anyone sees anything that can help me nail down the stuff keeping my G4 awake feel free to point it out. In the mean time I'm going to get the tasker thing going for a few days and then look into the home depot et. al.

I don't have any tips, sorry. But thank you for sharing your findings, I'm learning already. I'll need to try Wakelock Detector at some point.

Do you use the Home Depot app a lot during the day or is it just running rogue? I have the app also but I use Access Lock to remove all of its permissions and I have never had an issue with the app.

I still don't know how you guys are getting so much battery use. Yesterday I got the worst battery life ever. And the night before at work I got about 8 hours before I had to charge it. A couple weeks ago I was able to go my whole 12 hour shift without charging.

So now yesterday... I got about 5 hours before I had to swap out the battery. In those 5 hours a did lots of talk and texting. Also got the phone too hot cause I was outside trying to get sun and it went into a cooling mode. Wish I would've gotten screen shots of the battery use. Once I swapped out the battery I did some browsing. My daughter played minecraft for about 10-15 minutes at the doctors office. Again the battery only lasted about 4 hours before I swapped the battery again. It didn't get hot with regular use.

I know I'm a heavy user but this is just getting worse. I will download a battery monitor today. Anyone have any suggestions besides gsam?

Ps... This is what I have for today... Im on track for 4 + hours of battery life right now. I don't usually see Google services up there or Google play services like most people.

Battery Monitor Widget will record your current draw at intervals during the day, as well as whether the screen was on, or if you were charging.

So if you just have the phone off for a while, in your pocket, you can see if the current draw was spiking for some unexpected reason, for instance.

The total battery time is low, but the SOT is actually really good

That was exactly the situation I had on my G4 for the first few weeks. After much tinkering and trial and error, the keep awake time in Android OS was pinpointed to the Fenix twitter app, which I uninstalled.

Now, my overall battery life is gradually increasing day by day (according to Gsam), while my SoT average is staying around the same level. It was 11 hours give or take, and just under 5 hours SoT for the first few weeks. Right now it's 13 h 26 m Battery Life and 5 h 8 m Screen On in Gsam.

It will obviously take a while to see what is a realistic current overall mark for my G4, given three weeks of crappy totals weighing the average down.

I believe you can reset the estimates in GSam, under Preferences, Device Power Profiles. If you want to get rid of the legacy data and start fresh.

I've been concerned with my battery life for a while now, especially considering the huge SOT numbers some have been getting. After some tweaking of settings per the suggestions here, I managed to get a bit more than 4 hours SOT yesterday, with 13/14 hours of up time. Not the 5+ hours some report, but not too bad. This was with brightness at 45%, not on auto.

I would say that's pretty good considering you aren't using auto brightness.

At the moment, I have 2:10 of SOT, I'm at 50% battery, the phone has been on for 6:52. GSam reports Held Awake at 1:22. Screen using Auto Brightness, set to 6%.

So in theory, at this rate, I might get 4 hours SOT, with about 14 hours of uptime, if I drained the battery fully.

I'm pretty happy with this, it's my best battery performance so far, though I only got this G4 over the weekend. I have Location on Battery Saver today. Yesterday I accidentally left it on GPS Only. I don't get a great signal here.

I use GPS only without issue but I do restrict apps from using it with Access Lock.
