Optimizing G4 battery thread

I just upgraded to the G4, today, from a G2. While I was browsing my settings, I noticed the g4 was set for Global by default. On my g2, global was a battery killer. I reset the g4 to CDMA/LTE.

You just reminded me of a question I had. Is there any way to change my mobile network to 2G only, and 3G only, etc? I did this on my Nexus 5 pretty frequently. I can't find it in the settings.

If you do GSM only, it will be 2G. If you do GSM/CDMA, it will be 4G. This is with my T-Mobile coverage.

I can't seem to find "Access Lock" on my Verizon G4. Can anyone else with the Verizon G4 confirm?

Ok, got the other way figured out.
Download Quick shortcut maker on the play store.
Open it, change 'incremental search' to ' normal search' and search for Access.
You should get a Settings option that you can expand. Look for one labeled Access Lock and click on it.
You can then try to see if it works out just make the shortcut.

One last test to make sure I covered every angle. This time all my settings were the same as before but I didn't use Wi-Fi at all. This was all LTE or 3g.

24 hours up time with 4 hours SOT. Gmail sync, 2 accounts in exchange sync, auto brightness with lux, took some pictures, push notifications with many apps, turned my VPN off because I usually don't use it on cell anyway.

I'm convinced restricting permissions with Access Lock works and I'm glad Google is bringing back App Ops.

I can easily say that location is what's draining my battery.. even on GPS and with access lock keeping location from my apps. Not sure why, but I'll continue to see how my phone reacts with it off.

I started doing this in another thread, but i decided it might be nice to start a new thread.

I am doing a test, running the display brightness in Auto, manually syncing my email, and only running the Google syncing on services i actually use.

You can go to Settings-General-Accounts & Sync. From there, you can set how often you want your email synced, and if you go to Google, you can set the individual syncing on pretty much everything Google syncs on your phone.

I finally see what you're talking about.. I had to set up my gmail as an IMAP account to see this.

There are battery-saving apps that allow you to automatically time when data is connected to download new mail and/or updates. You may want to look at some of those.

the only thing that was draining my battery was the location.. draining more than it should have. My data and such are fine, plus those type of apps always seemed to drain more than worked for me in the past. I'm happy with the battery I get, it's just that I constantly look for more ways to better it. When I can accomplish 15 hr days without charging, I'm happy. I just want a little more screen time.

I was referring to how you had to have gmail set up as imap. You don't need to do this with one of those apps. I think they can also control other aspects like location. I haven't used one since I left Samsung, but they did help when I was on the GS2, GS3, and GS4.

It looks as though the factory reset helped. So far anyway.

I've left my GPS on and it's not draining my battery at all, it's also not randomly popping up. I did not do any access locks yet and everything is pretty much normal. 86% left on 6h10m use of battery so far. About an hour of screen time.. but that's the goods!

My usage today so far. I do have Location turned off, email set to sync hourly. 74% battery still left.

Mod Note :Cleaned up thread. Let's keep things on topic

Sent from my Asus Zenfone 2

On 2nd charge of my beautiful black leather G4. Been very impressed so far. Disabled the google apps that i dont use, no others so far, have read this thread and disabled a number of permissions via Access Lock. Mostly watched some video, downloaded some apps, played around with the settings a fair bit and been on here for a while. Been a mix of 4G and Wifi. Coming from my One M7 which maxed at 3.5hrs SOT, i must say i am very impressed. First charge was 3hrs SOT on 20HRS up time with most of that SOT being used by Satnav on data and GPS.

Here we go. This is more like the first few days I had this phone. I should accomplish 4 hours of SOT easily.. Maybe even 5.

Wow thank you so much for that, this will work in the meantime until I decide to root this thing.
Also its cool that the app you provided has no permissions.
