OTA link

I was just about to do this but wanted to get an opinion. I remember when the EVO got a manual download link, the people that waited for OTA ended up getting a higher version. any chance of that happening with this link?

E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
e: failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E: Signature verification failed
installation aborted.

Is this the very exact same software upgrade as the RUU that was "discovered" last week? I have that on my phone and the only thing that happened is that the App Market doesn't recognize any of my prior downloads that I backed up and reinstalled, and the App Market is the same as on 2.1 (not the new and improved version). Other than that everything is working fantastic.

Solution!!!

I'm getting the following issue -

E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop" . "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update/ERE27 /161494:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys"

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted.

if you are getting this your file extentions are hidden....so go under sd card and on the uppdate.zip just simply REMOVE THE .ZIP so the file just reads "UPDATE"

I was having the same issue but after removing the .zip, it worked perfectly!!

Update was easy, worked like a champ.

After the phone reboots, be patient, takes quite a while for it to boot (past the red eye) and finish its updating.

Side Note: Be sure that you haven't named the file update.zip.zip by accident. This will prevent your phone from recognizing the update file and thus cause an error on the install.

The file extensions are not hidden. If it were that issue, it would fail to open the update.zip. My situation does not fail to open, it just fails in updating.

I think this is not working for me because I'm rooted with unrevoked. Anyone know if this is true?

This worked like a charm! Just follow the directions carefully and be patient. It took about 15 minutes total to update.

OK, really strange. I downloaded the file, renamed it "update" and put it on the SD card. As soon as I unplugged the phone from the computer I received a dialog saying an update was available and it asking me if I wanted to install it.

I clicked yes and am in the process of installing right now. Strange that I didn't have to hold the volume button and power on the phone, it just went straight to the install.

/crossing fingers it goes OK.

just try it...because i was having the EXACT error message you were having....so i tried it and it worked...now sporting froyo!!....so tesst it out...wont hurt to try...

Exactly what will I LOSE when I do this update?

  • 2.1, aka "Eclair."
  • Below par performance.
  • A feeling of inadequacy standing next to EVO and Droid X users.
  • The need to compulsively check the forums for news about Froyo and the OTA.
  • Compatibility for Swype and all task killers (good riddance).

What was your exact fix for the file extensions? In windows mine are displayed.

DL the file again. Be sure it is named update.zip, not update.zip.zip
