OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5-3.26.651.6 [official update]

My Evo runs alot smoother now after the update. Web browsing seems faster. My live wallpapers even run much, much smoother than before. I havent tried any games out just yet though.

im doing it your way boss.. scared cause ive never wiped out my phone before :/

No worries, download rom manager from the market, do a a nandriod backup of your current set up, use app-brain or itanium backup too backup your other stuffs, then just wipe everything and flash. Put your stuffs back on and your all good.

You can even flash through rom manger if you dont like recovery.

I just did a nandroid and a titatnium back up. hopefully all goes well.

Says installing: SD CARD: then the zip file
after i cleared stuff and theres a slowly moving yellow bar at the bottom? is it supposed to take a while?

nvm it finished.. after it said install of sd card complete i take i just hit reboot?

o wow holy **** it definitly worked the lag on the 4G seemed so much quicker. about to see if it really worked with an fps test. just kind of stuck on the 4g sign for now though..

im glad i did it your way man (if it worked) although i rooted easy way i still want to learn about this stuff.

NOW THEN! how to get all my apps back with titanium?

Had a weird problem with my youtube account where it didn't want to accept my password but once you go into the actual youtube client than it may ask one or two more times but it seemed to fix the problem..

I'll tell you this much, I've noticed other android phones, droid x, epic etc. Moving smoothly through the menus and now my evo looks and feels the same!

Stock here. Just got done testing the update with some games. WOW! Feels like a whole 'nother phone! HUGE improvement as far as smoothness goes. Raging Thunder used to lag, now it runs perfectly smooth.

This is how I got the update and kept root...

If you have Unrevoked 3 installed:

  1. Download stock Evo Recovery image (Can't find it anywhere... EVO Stock Recovery? - xda-developers)
  2. Place the file in root of SD card and reboot into HBOOT (volume down/power button)
  3. Do the update that HBOOT asks (vol. up for YES)
  4. Reboot
  5. Once rebooted, download OTA and install (should work now)
  6. Once install finishes successfully you can reinstall a custom recovery using the same method (a list of them are here: public:forever [RootWiki])
  7. Once you have a custom recovery back, you will need to reinstall Superuser as an update.zip through recovery ([APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05] - xda-developers)
  8. Reboot and enjoy!

Reinstall titanium backup from the market and restore. Done.

Sorry to keep pestering you but is there a quicker way to restore all apps at once as opposed to each individually!

and to the people who use unrevoked.. for godsakes listen to igotsanevo... HIS WAY TOOK ME 2 SECONDS!!

Yes his way may be faster but it wipes the phone and installs a deodexed ROM, which I didn't want. I wanted to keep all my apps and settings, keep my root, and install the OTA. Actually, I question whether his way is faster because I didn't have to reinstall any apps...just the recovery and the SU app.

What took me the longest was actually tracking all the info down that I needed to accomplish this, which is why I posted my steps to save other people time.

In any case, we're all upgraded and happy, so who really cares how we did it :-)

This update sure does make everything smooooth!

I came to the realization that I would have to flash back to the stock recovery. I would have just flashed the rooted update but there were some on the thread saying they were having problems with 4G after using that one. I personally feel more comfortable with the official update.
