OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5-3.26.651.6 [official update]

I came to the realization that I would have to flash back to the stock recovery. I would have just flashed the rooted update but there were some on the thread saying they were having problems with 4G after using that one. I personally feel more comfortable with the official update.

I agree, which is why I searched out the proper way to do the OTA.

For those who don't know, the stock recovery is NOT the same thing as the full ROM. The recovery is like a little pre-boot screen where you can do advanced things, like flash update files and such. The stock recovery is usually replaced by a custom recovery when you root (it does more advanced things).

Reflashing the stock recovery back seems to be required for this OTA update to work since it's looking for the only recovery it knows of, so that's the first step...get it to stock recovery so the OTA update installs.

Once the update installs, you need to go back to a more advanced custom recovery (like Clockwork or Amon-Ra) so you can then update the superuser utility that is required for root since that broke when you went back to stock.

Am I imagining things, or does the touchscreen seem more accurate after the update?

I'm sure there's a little placebo effect at play, but it does feel a lot slicker in action. Zooming out to Sense Expose view with a pinch doesn't hitch; Angry Birds and Jewels feel smoother; videos seem smoother; scrolling is nice.

The animation in Gmail is sweet, but even more importantly, IT APPEARS THE PROBLEMS WITH SECONDARY GMAIL ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN LICKED!!! I was able to read and delete several mails from my 2nd account and upon refreshing the web view on my PC, the updates were made. ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!

Tried to installed the Big Three benckmark tools and Quadrant won't install and a few apps that Market says need updating are failing out. Dunno if this is related to the update or coincidental, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Note: Stock EVO w/Froyo; no rooting or other monkey business.

ok thank you I followed your steps it is installing but waiting for the final results... fingers cross

Scrolling is a thousand times smoother. As good or better than my friends iphone. Didn't really realize how bad it was before...or maybe I was just ignoring it :) Best update yet!

Oh and just in case anyone was curious. after i flashed the stock recovery and ran the OTA update I simply deleted stock recovery zip and re-ran unrevoked 3.21

Don't forget to go through now and readjust all your account & sync settings. Every single update always seems to enable sync for stuff I've always disabled, such as stocks and peep.

And wow, Fruit Ninja runs so very very smooth now. There used to be noticeable input lag, but not anymore. I am loving this update.

some how I'm rooted..as I've always been...yet my superuser permissions have disappeared? I run rom manager donate version, I run Titaium Back Up Donate vers. as well as tether, and now NONE of them work. I can boot into recovery and see that I'm indeed rooted, with S-OFF. Can someone help me??? Do I need to run unrevoked again? Also..my PRI was upgraded to 1.77_03? Does that have something to do with it?? I try to load into bootloader (power button and volume down but get a red triangle???????) HELP ME PLEASE!! Thanks! skbgiants@gmail.com

This is how I got the update and kept root...

If you have Unrevoked 3 installed:

  1. Download stock Evo Recovery image (Can't find it anywhere... EVO Stock Recovery? - xda-developers)
  2. Place the file in root of SD card and reboot into HBOOT (volume down/power button)
  3. Do the update that HBOOT asks (vol. up for YES)
  4. Reboot
  5. Once rebooted, download OTA and install (should work now)
  6. Once install finishes successfully you can reinstall a custom recovery using the same method (a list of them are here: public:forever [RootWiki])
  7. Once you have a custom recovery back, you will need to reinstall Superuser as an update.zip through recovery ([APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05] - xda-developers)
  8. Reboot and enjoy!

Major thanks go out to ecaggiani. I can't believe i'm up at 4am completing this update, but yep, I am. My Evo was/is rooted with UnRevoked 3.21, so your info will hopefully be a lifesaver.

Question: I completed the stock recovery and did the OTA download. The OTA just started to install and now I have what looks like a picture of an Evo, with a red triangle in the upper right corner(with what looks like an upside down i or an exclamation point in the middle). It's been like this for about 2 or 3 minutes now. Is this what you saw also???

Hmm, no. I saw a progress bar. If it doesn't change for you, I'd start over and try again.

Yeah, I had the progress bar(in green) and then it switched to this other screen, I described earlier. I'm pulling the OTA again and will try the install again to see what happens. I noticed that it said the system update download was corrupt and asked if I want to download it again.. So I said yes and it's downloading again. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah I also saw the corrupt message for the OTA the first time after installing the stock recovery and had to redownload it. Sorry, forgot to mention that.
