Pentile screen?

Is it true that the pentile screen pulls less power? If so, it's DEFINITELY worth the less vivid display to me. YMMV.

The technology uses less power to provide the same level of perceived brightness (in addition to providing much higher perceived brightness at the same level of power), so yes, in effect, PenTile screens do save power. In fact, that seems to be one of the key reasons why Motorola is it in the business-oriented Photon.

I notice the Pentile problems when viewing blue text, as in hyperlinks. It especially bothers me in the Google Reader app. Check out the attached photo. You really see the checkerboard issue in the second blue line, and the "d" in "downgraded." Black text looks fine, but blue text looks awful.

Can anyone test out this wallpaper on their phone for me? When viewed on my photon the background is black instead of purple, not even a trace of purple.

Other than the color I haven't had any problems with the screen. I've read posts about how it looks really bad while watching youtube vids, but mine looks great.

Definitely purple on my DX. If anyone is wondering why I am here, I'm looking to get the Bionic and since the biggest difference between the Photon is LTE, I figured that this was the best place to get an idea of what I am getting into.

I'm still having problems adjusting to the screen, the frequent headaches after 5 min of viewing is a huge issue with Pentile... Love the phone but not worth the eye strain. Anyone have success getting use to it?

Seriously? Headaches? :confused:Sounds like this phone just isn't for you .. You should probably swap it out for another device if its giving you headaches... thats the most extreme thing ive heard yet about the Pentile screen.. I got used to it after about a day maybe. Sorry that your Experience with it is that bad.

Actually it is a drawback to Pentile screens due to over saturation... Google it. Atrix owners have complained of similar problems.

My question was for the board to see if anyone else has similar problems. I actually love the device over my Nexus.

Well I guess im one of the lucky ones that doesn't get headaches from a Pentile screen. I had no Idea that headaches were a common problem with Pentiles.

I've never heard of that as well. If anything it's the opposite because the screen is so clear.

I LOVE this screen. You can see it outside on a sunny day like nothing else. I couldn't even use my EVO outside.

This just goes to show you how people see things differently. My original android was the 1st EVO and I thought the screen was great. Then I got the Nexus S and I hated the screen resolution compared to the EVO. Although, everybody was raving about Samsung Amoled screens. To me it was dull and the colors did not look right. I sold it and now I have the Photon. I love the screen on the Photon and I personally don't have any problems with it. I have watched movies and viewed pictures and it's great to me. Much better than the Nexus S in my opinion.

If someone could post, or point me to a screenshot, of how photos look on the pentile screen, I'd appreciate it.

First pic is from Moto, second is from EVO 4G. Both are set at same brightness (very low), btw. Take a close look at the fenced window.

I suggest to anyone who is unhappy with the Pentile screen to simply swap the device out for a screen that you can live with.. But good luck with problems that come along with the next device you get.. Trust me Ive had so many problems with the functionality of these "great screen" Phones. You might just wish that the "screen" was the only issue the phone had...

I read in a different forum on pentile screens that there is a black issue as well. With the brightness turned all the way down to take away the checkerboard, it affected the colors as well. There is a debate that a purple can easily turn to black with the brightness down.
