I hear you. I can't get a proper AMOLED black displayed on the lock screen--one that matches my now black Swift Black notifications. What I get looks like a solid black jpeg displayed on a really lousy IPS panel that leaks backlight everywhere.I like the color actually, just a little cooler than I like but seems like the pixel 1 XL with sRGB turned on.
I was happy until I noticed the black crushing issue. I have a few backgrounds that we're great on my last couple AMOLED screens, very dark with lots of details. This screen does not do these backgrounds Justice.
For a second there I thought you were on to something, maybe this is a problem with how they display the wallpaper. But they seem about the same in quick pic.I hear you. I know the panel's not exclusively at fault because it can produce proper AMOLED blacks, the SB notifications look fine themselves. But they're far too noticeable because of the shoddy way the black wallpaper is displayed. Both my N6 and 6P reproduced a pure black on the lockscreen perfectly, even when the 6P was running Oreo.
Most people prefer more saturated colors. Full stop. Accurate or not. Maybe not as much in this forum, but overall people love punchy colors. They are more pleasing to most people. It is what it is.
Again ... accurate does NOT necessarily = pleasing . Rinse , repeat ..
Um...
I think you have that backwards, that's the Pixel 2 XL on the left...
And, BTW, IMHO the Pixel 2 XL's screen looks better to me in that pic.
I came here specifically to post this exact comment. I'm reading this on a Galaxy S7 and if I till the phone everything gets a blue tint. Haven't been using the phone long but just noticed it thanks to all this xl2 talk.
The phone on the left is Android (navigation buttons). The one on the right is an iPhone (menu icons). Having said that, I don't understand how the Pixel 2 has better whites on an OLED screen than an LCD screen.
Hahaha...yeah...dingy a$$ iPhones. This is a perfect example. Most phones are tuned very warm. When we see illuminated white our brains turn it blue, from over exposure to yellow screens. Use a pixel 2 XL for a week. Other phones will start to look yellow and dingy.
Whew, that sounds a bit dramatic.
Wow! This is brutal. I disagree with many of the points. Google can’t make a good phone and it’s embarrassing – BGR
Exactly, he sounds like the typical Android hater. His words are not valid.I got as far as this: "While I enjoy the large display that’s almost edge-to-edge, the radius of the screen corners combined with how much space the bezels take up above and below the screen are infuriating to me. "
Really? Infuriating?
I knew at that point a couple of things:
1. There is no way in hell this guy is going to be able to write a fair review of this phone
2. This guy is someone who's opinion does not interest me at all. Not on any topic.
If a phone's corners infuriate you, you need to seriously reconsider your life and how you spend it, what's important and what's not.
Even if this guy is just using hyperbole as a literary device, he's using it way too soon and going way over the top. If he says he's infuriated by the corners, is the color profile going to inspiure him to actually commit murder? Will he be climbing the tall tower with a rifle once he sees there's no headphone jack?
I would like to cordially invite this jerk to smoke a turd in hell, and the editor who hired him and decided his piece was worth publishing can join him there.
At least I now know that I don't need to bother spending any time looking for worthwhile content on bgr.com.
Yeah, there's got to be something screwy going on with the lockscreen that's separate from the display's ability to display black since the black notifications look fine. Or, I should say, they would look fine if the lockscreen background didn't look like a crappy radial gradient.ere I thought you were on to something, maybe this is a problem with how they display the wallpaper.
