poll: camera freezing?

Does your Note9's camera freeze?

I don't see how a reflash from Samsung store doesn't wipe all your data. Isn't a reflash basically reimaging the factory software?
Its just reinstalling the latest update, basically the same as doing an update yourself. It shouldn't delete any data but it's always a possibility. When I had the s8+ I had them reflashed the software and it didn't delete anything. You can do it yourself but it requires root access.

Quick question for those who are experiencing this problem. What steps have you done to trouble shoot this problem.

Might I suggest if you have access to a Samsung experience store. Go in and have them reflashed the software on the phone. It shouldn't wipe the phone but you should also back it up before hand.

Does this problem occur if you say use the Google camera port. Does it happen when you use any other app that uses the camera like snap chat, Instagram, video chat, bixby ect.

Have you done a partition cache wipe, cleared app data and cache in the camera app. Have you done a factory reset.

Does it happen with the different photo sizes, does it do with auto HDR on or off.

None of this should matter. Or have to be done. I don't expect perfection, but this is a basic feature that should work.

I've answered most of these questions. Not sure what you mean by "Google camera port". I use what Samsung has. In Instagram, Microsoft Lens and just the camera. No reason to clear cache, I haven't took enough photos for that to be an issue. I never reset phones these days. No Samsung buy me. I'll add (again): no SD card, tmobile USA, locked, camera worked fine in my Note 8 with the same stock settings.

Thank you for trying to offer solutions.

There are several threads here, at xda-developers, and at Samsung's community forums that talk about the various measures that users have taken to address the problem. All standard techniques have been tried, including rebooting, cache-clearing, removing SD card, using different camera/display settings and different camera apps, factory reset, reflashing, etc. Many techniques have been found to work temporarily, but the problem always returns soon.

Does anyone with the camera issues have the Cloud Silver color?

Wondering if later builds are safe.

congrats to those without the issue. I'm hoping for more helpful feedback for those of us with essentially a useless camera on our $1000 device

128 GB T-mobile model with no camera issues as reported by others. The app opens quickly, photos and videos come out nice and clear in a variety of conditions. It is the first device I have not felt the need to download the Google Pixel port.

Knowing what fraction of the phones don't have the issue is necessary in order to determine what fraction do have the issue. Therefore, it is indeed helpful feedback, which is why this thread is asking everyone both with or without the issue to respond here (especially by voting in the above poll, if your interface lets you).

The Samsung Community site are saying that the majority if not all the people reporting the issue are from SnapDragon owners with the Sony sensors.

If true, then it would be interesting from this poll if you take out the Exynos owners out how much higher the percentage changes. How many that did say they have the issue have the Exynos chip to debunk the theory going on at the Samsung site?

My coworker with his two Nines hasn't mentioned any camera issues and he's been showing quite a few pics and vids of the kids lately and his were pre-order models.

Software? or maybe bad batch of sensors?

Could you explain how those who say theirs work without additional information (make, country, carrier, e.t.c) to those who are having this problem?

Also, what do you mean by "if" they can vote? Can someone not get on the internet to go to the forums to vote?

Might have been a good idea, but can't change the poll midway. It's still useful to know roughly what fraction of all Note9 owners have the problem.

I'd guess software. For years now, the Note and S lines have been plagued with widespread problems that impede various pieces of hardware until you reboot, after which the problem resumes again following a delay of hours, days, or weeks, depending on the user. With other phones, the biometric devices or the touch/keyboard interface have been impaired. With the Note9, it's primarily the camera.

This pattern suggests a fundamental resource-leak problem with their driver model. It may be something they can't fix without an extensive software redesign, so instead they try to paper over it and above all to avoid publicly acknowledging it.

skeptically keeping my fingers crossed, but since I restarted my phone this morning, the lag issue hasn't occurred. I've been trying to reproduce it on and off for the last few hours and it hasn't occurred. I doubt it's as simple a fix as that, but strangely so far so good. it was happening EVERY time I launched the camera before the restart

See above. Some people access the forum via an app, which apparently does not support the polling interface.

See above. I showed how the AC app can go to the internet. Tapatalk can do the same as I use that for other forums. Is there one I missed?

I tried using the AC app to go to the forums but even when using your method when I went there I could only see the votes but couldn't vote
