There are a lot of valid points being made, I read the two to three weeks and that was expected - no one is saying they are mad because of that. Here is why there are pissed off consumers.

My #1 is the TOTAL lack of communication on googles part. Maybe if they put some large red text up before we clicked buy stating that we would not be able to cancel, change, or receive any kind of notification from them since they began taking preorders then some of us would think twice. Just the fact that no one was able to change their order speaks to how I'll prepared and rushed this release was.

Also the only thing Google did promiss was that our cards wouldn't be charged till the order ships and we would receive an email with the tracking #. Well they charged my card 12 hours ago and I haven't gotten anything.

All of this information is instantly available when purchasing online goods it is expected to be updated.

Some more minor frustrations would be the sales tax, the shipping, and that soon we can walk down the street and buy one. So yeah, I must have had some misconception of what a pre-order was, I thought that it meant we would be among the first to own the nexus 7 - I guarantee had there not been such a huge response from play store purchasers locked into their orders that all the stares would have started selling the 12th. This feels more like a back-order than a pre-order.

I guess Google didn't explicitly say how long after my card was charged I would be receiving a tracking number so I won't hold them accountable for that.

I personally will continue to support Play store hardware purchases. There where some mistakes this time but after loosing the direct market after the Nexus One I want to do what I can to keep the direct avenue around. They will learn from this experience and I am sure things will work better with their next hardware products.

That's what Google Promised you, that's what they're delivering.

I don't give a pass for getting by on a technicality. Try that with your wife or gf and see how far it gets you. Or try it in your work place. Do the bare minimum necessary. See how long you keep your job.

If Google wants to be in the retail business and get the higher margins that come with selling directly from the Play store, they better start providing actual value for the customer. And make no mistake about it. They are getting a lot more from selling direct. Since the device is priced the same at retail as at Play store, this means Google is eating the retailer's margins. But they preserve their own by charging ridiculously high shipping costs. But what additional value is being provided for helping Google preserve its margins? Heck, once this thing is fully in stores, the probably no point at all in buying from the Play store. And now, no rationale for pre-orders, if Google is just gonna to follow the letter of the definition and not the spirit of it.

Sure, Google has technically met their obligations. But they've also provided negative value for any consumer buying from the Play store (higher cost, later delivery). So again, as far as this experience is concerned, why should anybody pre-order from the Play store again? There's clearly no added value in doing so.

Will of course buy apps from Google Play, but devices, probably not, given that I felt mislead about the availability of hardware on same dates at other venues at lesser price (free shipping). the timing is unfortunate and didnt really make sense but not the issue for me, my issue is forced into two day shipping, given tracking number on unshipped item on the weekend making it seem to be moving. And google plays method of shuffling all communication to Google after taking your money.

A pre-order is an order placed for an item which has not yet been released. The idea for pre-orders came when people found it hard to get popular items in stores due to their popularity. Companies were then given the idea to allow people to reserve their own personal copy, before the release, which has been a huge success. Pre-orders allow consumers to guarantee immediate delivery on release

The 13th was release day. Call Google and they'll be happy to tell you, Google gave the go ahead, this wasn't a massive coup by 8 or so retailers. Google didn't provide a pre-order as promised. And to add insult to injury we payed more than non-preorders despite getting them late.

I'm used to getting my shipment later so I'll probably buy from google store again. I really don't care for all this late shipment and what nots as long as I get my stuff within a week and if it works fine. what I hate to do is returning a defective devics and going through another waiting period.

I will not buy another device from Google Play. Saturday I could have walked into Sams Club and walked out with the Nexus and saved $13 by not paying shipping.

While I was in Sams Club, I did play with the Nexus 7. I REALLY liked what I saw. It is very smooth and light!

Well, not any more. Now they are just flat out lying to me. "Jake" at Google today told me no-one else has them yet either - they haven't shipped in the US yet either - but I should get a tracking number from Fedex in the next couple of days.

3-4... I don't think anything went wrong at all (minus having the charge go away and then come back on my credit card which was kind of annoying) but there was nothing in particular that wowed me.

Feel like this is a bad poll because not many people have gotten their device yet. (So no one really has a reason to be happy with the play store but some people have a reason to be mad about it.

Also, while it is getting (weirdly) aggressive, I have to admit I love these discussions because it is kind of cathartic.

Like the forums about waiting for ICS for the EVO 3D (now that is really making me mad/ maybe that's why having my tablet 3 days later than some people is nbd), it is nice knowing that I have nerd company that is just as anxious.

In fact the entire purpose of a pre-order is to gauge demand for an item so they know how many shipments to send to retailers.

I can only hope that anyone at Google that had anything to do with this release will hold their breath until I order a case from them!!!

I ordered my 7 on the 4th of July....no shipping number....no email......nothing!!!!

IF I ever get my get my N7, I will use the 25.00 credit but I will never spend another dime with Google.

In fact the entire purpose of a pre-order is to gauge demand for an item so they know how many shipments to send to retailers.

Don't be silly, customers that pre-order don't want it on time anyway. They pre-order with the expectation that they could get it shipping free a week earlier at retail.

This is sound business strategy.
