I got it but have been working ever since then. Will update tomorrow on what went down.
Loving it so far, but have only set up essentials. Gonna be a while of digging in as I get "free" time.
Phew; just sat down for the first time in a while.
So yesterday I was like, "I know my order status just says 'processing' and the pickup date disappeared, and I'm super busy with work, but I feel like wasting some of my limited time by walking into BB and asking WTH is going on."
So they got on the phone with whoever. One of the guys said, looking at inventory, that I might not get the phone until Sept. 6th. While this was going on, a manager or someone came out with the exact phone I had preordered (black, Verizon, 256, 10+, 5G).
"So we have this one, but it's not YOUR preordered phone. We can try to get them to force this one into your preorder, but I don't know if it'll work. Do you have to be somewhere?"
"Yes. But give it a shot."
After being on the phone for a while, the BB guy (who was actually pretty helpful and worked through everything) said that the corporate people had started a ticket, and that they said it would be resolved "anywhere from a couple of hours to 5 days from now." We briefly discussed canceling my preorder and just buying the phone they had RIGHT THERE, and rolling the dice on Samsung accepting my original preorder email receipt for the $150. I was like, "Ummmm let me think about this for like 5 seco--" and then the manager said that the ticket had gotten resolved and they could sell me that phone as my preorder.
Got the phone, wiped my old one, and literally didn't take the phone out of the box or activate it until a couple of hours later when I got a little time (did I mention it was a busy day?). I pretty much only set up the email and work stuff that I really needed for my business, worked all day today, and have spent the last couple hours getting more things the way I want them (I decided to almost set this one up from scratch--basically just had Google bring in my apps and contacts, and then started from ground zero).
Anyway, I got my preordered phone, like it a lot, and all seems well. Just had to wait a week from launch date. Good luck if you don't have yours yet!
I DO have to say the people I dealt with in the actual BB store seemed very competent and helpful and did their best to work with what was probably a crappy situation dumped onto them. The guy I was working with was like, "If we cancel the preorder, I'll make sure you get all the trade in promo stuff through us and everything else EXACTLY like it already is--the only thing you're rolling the dice with would be Samsung, but I think you'd be OK there, also."
All worked out, in the end. But come on--how do giant companies like these biff something like a preorder, which they've coordinated on a million times before?
