[Rant] What's with LG announcing and no availability?

Last year with the V20 was so painfully bad. Almost 2 full months of waiting and none of the carriers even had any info about availability or pricing until just a few days before they became available.

To their credit, all their product divisions are equally as bad in their rollouts too.

I'm pretty positive that it will be a better rollout than the V20.

To Mike Dee - this isn't a problem for 99% of the people. But we are in a tech forum and at least I tend to believe most of us here are interested in the latest and greatest. Our attention span is short or at least mine is. I remember last year for V20 I was really excited for variety of reasons and as time went slowly lost interest and all the hype died. And I had moved on to other devices. I agree I'm not a typical customer that's what I started this as a rant. Doesn't apply to everyone but there are few who feel the same way.

If it isn't a problem for 99 percent of the people then LG has not shot themselves in the foot as indicated in your rant.

LG is not a very good marketing company. If you announce a new product /phone, make sure it is ready and ship it or make it available within a couple weeks like Apple does. You want to capitalize on the hype of your new product while the hype is still there and people are excited about it. Why LG announces a new phone and then waits 2 months to make it available for resale is head scratching bad. By the time you release it, the hype is gone and the majority of people have moved on. Look at the LG v20 last year. For some of us techies and some die hard LG fans, yeah we'll wait for the LG V30, but for most people they will be buying Apple and Samsung phones. Also, when LG does release the V30, it will be smack dab in the heart of the IPhone and note 8 releases. The V30 will have a hard time making headway in the smartphone marketplace this year with that competition. If they could have announced it and released it for sale right away, they would have been in a lot better position to steal away some of the market share before all of the iPhone hype. LG just doesn't figure it out.

That's kinda par for the course for LG. They announce now, and leave no details on when the device will be released. I'm not surprised. I don't know why anyone else would be.

Its like they don't want anyone's business.

I'm not sure why anyone would buy or not buy a phone because of its release date. If three phones are coming out within a three month or other time period.... What real difference does it make? I'll buy what I like from the three worth waiting for. At this point I can stick with my V20 and wait. In my case I won't buy an iPhone or Samsung anyway so that doesn't matter. If I like the V30 when it comes out I will buy it or not.... It's that simple. I already see people on YouTube complaining that's its not being released with Android 8.0...... Give me a break.
I agree 100 %, Mike.

The v30 will fail like all LG phones, poor marketing and not capitalizing on the momentum , let alone the iPhone 8 is almost here, Mi Mix 2 is almost here as well...

They need hire Samsung marketing group

We are in the minority... It seems the trend these days is instant gratification. There are people complaining it's not coming with Android O.

No. People have short attention spans. That isn't going to change. LG needs to adapt to that fact.

Once the iPhone announced, and the Note is in folks hands, the noise will be deafening. And then you'll get all the techies foaming over the Pixel, and... We'll I'm sure you know the story.

I was hanging around the G4 forums on XDA before I bought my G4 and folks over there mentioned finding a 'stripe' down the side of the screen (a defect in the coating on the glass). It was easy to miss, but no way a brand new phone should have a blemish out of the box.

Went to get my G4 a day after availability in Canada and the store rep said I was lucky and that they had limited stock. She opened up my new G4 and I pulled the packing film off the screen and there was a half inch stripe on the upper right side of the screen lol. Said I wanted another one. She went back, got another G4, and that one had an inch stripe down the screen in the exact same place. She went back and got the last one she had in stock and that one was in good shape lol. She was pissed though. That phone had a screen sensitivity issue that was not corrected until a software update about 6 months later. Phone also later had the bootloop issue.

So I believe that forums like these should be considered before adopting early for an LG device to check for issues (or any device...my current Samsung S7 had the missed tap issue along the bottom right of the phone, fixed with a software update months later).

Will I get a V30 shortly after release? Probably lol. But I'll be checking forums a lot to see if there is something to keep an eye on.

But this is the only review I have seen that has indicated an issue. Most are glowing reviews, other than the odd software hiccup that is to be expected in prereleased devices.

Yeah all the reviews I see are raving about the screen. I'll pass judgement by how it looks to my eyes not by some haters posting about everything they dislike about a phone they have no intention of buying.

It's like they find validation in their purchases by bagging on other devices

Hopefully the issue is limited to the preproduction Ars unit.

I agree with you. Its a small minority here with people who will wait for an unannounced release date for a phone. Its ridiculous, from a marketing standpoint, to introduce a product, hype it up, then go radio silence. The common consumer who walks into Verizon next week looking for a phone is going to find one and purchase it. Those with slightly passing interest in the V30 will just as easily adopt a different phone if its released in the meantime. LG doesnt have the brand loyalty other phones have. They just dont.
