Received Official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OTA this morning

Okay, so let me just say I've been trying this since the announcement and it's been no dice for me. That is until, I added a couple of steps to this "trick". I noticed that if you force stopped framework and went back into it there'd already be like 20kb of data. So I took it a couple of steps further.

I went further than just "Turning off mobile data" - I dialed *#*#4636#*#* and killed my radio. 2nd, I turned off Wifi. Now, with a 0% chance of information exchange, force closed framework, cleared data, HOME screen button, swiped closed settings, back into settings, turned WiFi BACK ON, before it even grabbed my network, I was already in About Phone -> Status, clicking "CHECK NOW", as soon as the Wifi indicator turned blue, Check now was SUCCESSFUL!!!!!

I'm 15 miles north of Boston and was super skeptical after trying the trick all day yesterday/thursday.

GOOD LUCK!!!! :)

PS. Jellybean is the hotness.

This worked for me on first try after doing all the other tricks with no luck.

Hey Joe... I tried all scenarios and it didn't work... I found out that once I cleared my cache in apps and swiped out all the apps on the "screen icon" next to the home screen, it finally worked... I hope it works for you because the update is awesome... Just flying through apps and screens

I was very skeptical of this as I literally tried every other trick multiple times for the last 2 days, but this worked on the very first try.

As a side note, JB makes this phone absolutely fly.

Same! Wonderful!

After you clear data try this I heard it works too. On keyboard in search bar ^ ^ √ √ < > < > b a b a start :D

I can confirm that doing the clearing of the "google framework service" does work... but its hit or miss.

Steps I took with my wife's phone:

1.) Made sure wifi was on and mobile was off
2.) Cleared the Google framework
3.) Ran update check - NOTHING
4.) Turned mobile on along with wifi
5.) Cleared google framework again
6.) checked for update - WORKED

BUT! I did this with my phone, didnt work,... what i did for my phone was

1.) Made sure both mobile and wifi was on
2.) cleared google framework
3.) Checked for update - NONE
4.) turned on airplane mode (turning both mobile and wifi off)
5.) cleared google framework
6.) Turned both wifi/mobile on
7.) checked for update - WORKED

So yes, clearing the google framework does work but it looks like it might have something else cached blocking it from time to time.

Awesome, I just used your method and it work after my first try. Thanks very much. You have saved my life! I have been trying to update with various methods in two days.

Did a reboot cleared servies data/ then force closed, hit home, hit the running apps swiped settings off, went back to setttings update FINALLY GOT IT!!!!!!!! <<<< Los Angeles

Good to hear! Yeah, I think killing all network traffic was key. Also, promptly checking for the update after you turn wifi on (giving GFS little time to communicate) I was starting to buy into the people who were saying it was all a coincidence. Well, I tried 5-10 times this morning using the normal trick, then I had the idea to kill radio/wifi before kill/clearing GSF, turned on traffic, update, SUCCESS on the firs try?? Not a coincidence.

Here's what worked for me after trying tons of other things posted within this thread:

1. Wifi on
2. Mobile Data on
3. Turn on airplane mode (so that all connections are disabled)
4. Reboot
5. Clear service framework and force stop
6. Turn airplane mode off
7. Don't wait for wifi or mobile data to connect. Go straight to check for updates and continuously hit check until the the 4.1 is ready to Download.

Good luck!

since I have no access to wifi, I guess I'll just have to wait until VZW starts rolling it out via OTA.
(rural area, no cable/DSL, nearest place I can find Wi-Fi is the local library or my office, 32 miles away...
at home I depend on my Galaxy Nexus tethering for my internet access.... which is wifi. :D Unless
I can find a way to tethering the wifi to my PC, and back to the Galaxy Nexus... no that won't work)

Alright I've reached a conclusion... I'm positive its not a coincidence... I got 4.0.4 almost immediately after clearing GSF a while back

I had to bring my phone back to stock ICS recently and still have it there now...
So when the OTA came decided to see it hit my phone (just wanna see what stock JB is like)

This morning... I checked for updates at about 10 20 PDT Nothing there
For the hell of it I cleared data in GSF and tried again (this was about 30 seconds later)

The update was there.

So a lot of folks are saying that clearing GSF does nothing... its all a coincidence

Well... if it does NOTHING then it means that I just happened to check for updates 30 seconds before Google pushed the update...

This is basically how it worked during 4.0.4 but not quite as quick an interval

The odds on this.. .even with a staggered rollout are absolutely miniscule

So here's what I think: You can't get the update to push to your phone any faster....

However... once the update is pushed to your phone checking for updates does not always find it

Clearing GSF seems to help your phone do a better check

(Notice how when you check and its on 1969 the update check takes far longer even if it finds nothing?)

Jelly Bean notification arrived this morning (Sun 9/23 EDT) in Northern NJ without any forceclose on GSF.
Just finished install.

My 2 cents on the GSF FC trick - it may cause a more thorough, immediate update check, but it seems
to me that you're not getting the update until some VZW server (regional? ESN/SIM? Purchase date?) decides
it's your turn. As many have mentioned, VZW would need significant peak server resources if all phones
received the update simultaneously. A staggered update rollout distributes the peak demand over time.

Wondering - have enough members posted the time/region they first received the notification(?) or other
correlatable data (area code, in-service date, serial number, ...) to determine if any predictable pattern exists?

This did the trick for me...works for sure....running JB

This worked for my phone! I tried the original "trick" all day Friday, and it screwed up my Play store so I gave up on that yesterday. This morning, I figured I'd try it again, and this method worked. After I cleared the framework I went into the check for update screen, and turned off Airplane Mode there. As soon as I turned Airplane Mode off I mashed the check for update button and the update popped up! Can't wait to taste those Jelly Beans and that Butter!! Good luck everyone!

Trick does work. Have to swipe away settings on recent apps after clearing Google frame work. Did that and it worked immediately. I'm in Maryland if anyone cares.

Thanks dude! This IS the trick. Have to swipe away the Settings app in recent apps, after clearing GF, then do a check for system update. This worked on the 1st try for me, after I had tried unsuccessfully dozens of times just clearing the framework and hitting check for updates.

Do this people!
