Returning Preorder Unopened ?

Hi, I pre-ordered a 4XL 128gb in the UK, largely so if the reviews were good I could leverage the free Chromebook offer.

I'm now seriously considering returning it unopened as from the reviews £939 seems a lot to not get class leading (or at least equalling) battery life and be back to remembering passwords for apps that won't support face unlock.

Shame, as I love the look, really wanted the performance to match and to actually get software updates (Moto are poor, and almost makes me want to go back to iOS).

Also likely to want a 5G upgrade next year anyway.

Anyone else cancelled their pre-ordered after reading reviews ?

I don't pay a lot of attention to the reviewers on youtube even tho I do watch them. I want a real world situation for me and my use. Which can only be done by me on the battery life

You should have a 15 day trial to see if it meets your expectations, and get a good ideal from that if you want to keep it. But thats up to you .

Last Pass actually added the Face unlock to their app since I have got my Pixel 4 XL . I am sure more apps will add this feature in time, it all depends on the App Dev. to do that though

To answer your question no I did not cancel , still testing. But so far I am pretty sure I will keep mine

You got to understand YouTubers tend to message whatever the audience wants to hear. You should just use them for entertainment and reference, but always go by your own experience. Personally I would say use the phone and return it if you don't like. If they charge restocking fee, think you got to spend time with the newest phone for rental

I completely disregard the reviewers. They are people who are paid to get clicks on YouTube. Harsh titles and unjust reviews get the most views and clicks.

Do you use your phone exactly like they did for the one week the "reviewed" the phone. If so then I guess send it back.

Agreed. I watch the YouTube reviews for entertainment, but I'm an adult and can make my own determination once I have the phone in hand. For me, the battery life of the 4 XL has been fantastic so far. Yes, certain apps that don't support face unlock yet is somewhat annoying, but they'll get there in time.

I would give it a try. I have read more negative reviews then positive too. But so far I am loving my pixel 4XL. It does everything I need for it to do. I have very good battery life. Plenty of storage as I have most of my stuff in one drive and google drive, And I love the camera, Best I have ever scene on a phone. I think you should make up your own mind and try it out for yourself instead of taking to much for granted on the you tube reviews. Maybe google should just stop sending the reviewers a free phone to try out if all they do is bash it. I'll take a free phone if they want to give one away, and I wouldn't bash it. :)

I picked up the Pixel 4 XL Thursday the 24th and did not open it until Saturday the 26th because I was thinking about taking it back. After reading the AC Pixel 4 XL forums, I decided to give it a try. So far, I'm at a full day with the device and I must say I'm pleased. The jury is still out on battery life and my only complaint so far is screen brightness. I think you should give it a try before you send it back, you might be pleased.

Unless there's a fee on returns, why not open it and play with it.

Do you believe everything you read on the internet? If you do, then you are giving them the power to make the decision for you.
You have the phone in hand, why not give it a try and decide for yourself

I returned the Pixel 4XL I pre-ordered. I took the reviews into consideration but what ultimately made my decision was I just felt like Google should be doing better. There's no reason not to have an ultra wide angle lens or a bigger battery when there competition is doing it. I decided to go with the Galaxy S10 plus and love it so far. I'll miss not getting the os updates right away but I think I'd miss the wide angle lens more.

I think returning the phone without forming your own opinion is a mistake.

Personally, I think the battery life on my 4xl is excellent. Sure, it's not class leading, but viewed in it's own merits, it's still quite good. I've had phones that left me with constant battery anxiety before and know what it feels like to look up at the battery icon with dread. Based on my limited experience so far, thats not going to happen... And things will only improve once my usage settles in and I get out of 'got a new phone' usage. Sunday I looked at my battery charts and I had logged 5 hours of screen time and my battery was sitting at 54%. 5 hours and I was 54%.... Granted, the usage during the day wasn't high impact, but I still used the phone for a loooooong time and was only down a half tank.

If anyone thinks that is embarrassingly bad battery life... Not sure what to say.

As for the other things... I had a phone with a wide angle...I used it on occasion and got some neat shots out of it that were not possible with the standard angle lens. My next phone didn't have a wide angle, and never once did I care. Sure, if it had it I would not mind, but I also don't mind that it doesn't.

I also think the forehead hate is silly. The top bezel is nearly the exact same height as the iPhone notch... But the added sensors mean that were been spared from looking at a stupid notch. I think notches, teardrops, hole punches, the lot of them, are trash. I'm happy that Google instead chose to pack even more sensors up there and ran that thing the whole width of the screen. Made me want the phone more simply out of spite.

But your mileage may vary... And you should always trust your opinion over some talking heads on YouTube or a few click-hungry bloggers looking for the next hot take.

You shouldn't need a thread to validate whether you are making the correct, PERSONAL decision. To each their own, I personally sold an S10+ for it.

I think think Google could have done a better job and decided to vote with my wallet. There software is bare bones so the least they could do is make the hardware top of the line and not including an ultra wide is a huge mistake for me. Also starting out with 64 gb of ram and not giving unlimited storage is a slap in the face.

I hope everyone who got one loves it. Only time will tell.
