[ROM] - 2/5 - CleanROM 2.3 -=ICS Edition=- Clean and Smooth!

First I will say this ROM is awesome...by far my favorite. I even like it better than the CM7 I was running on my Dinc.

Problems for me with this ROM is battery life is horrible...far worse than any other ROM or stock setup I have run. I have the extended battery and see it draining while I'm using it.

Also there is no icon letting me know GPS is enabled.

Browser is amazing though. It screams. Renders better than anything I have ever seen. Simply awesome.

Can I use a different kernel with this ROM that will work better regarding battery life?

I typically make it all day with my extended battery, but with this ROM I only lasted 12 hours from full charge to empty. Use was as usual.

Anyone having issues with Swype using this ROM? I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled. What I get is a very tiny -- and therefore unusable -- keyboard. Kind of lost without my Swype. Any help is appreciated.

Oddly enough, the problem fixed itself by uninstalling, reinstalling, switching to landscape mode with the Swype keyboard visible, then switching back to portrait mode. So... if anyone else runs into this quirk, your Swype works -- you just need to swivel the phone a bit.

I'm on CleanROM 4.0 guys. Outstanding stuff. You need to follow Scotts How To prepare for CleanROM 4.0 post onhis website. Involves relocking your phone and using the new ICS RUU.

HELLLPPP!!! This rom is great and i loved using it, but being in my sleep deprived state I started to create a backup for it because I liked it so much using rom manager by CWM. i woke up to a bricked device. black screen and not adb responsive, no matter what commands i try running it says waiting on device. when i plug it in via usb to my computer or the wall charger i get the red charging light for a short period of time and then it goes right back off. No matter what i have tried i cant get my phone to respond :'(
please help me. i just want my new phone back... :-\

Creating a backup shouldn't have this effect.
Did you pull the battery and try restarting the phone? What about pulling the sim card, replacing battery, and starting up the phone?
From a powered off state, are you able to turn it on right onto bootloader mode or does that not function as well?

Isn't this the "CWM doesn't charge while powered off" problem meets "my battery fully drained and now I can't boot" problem? I would think he could:

Battery pull and plug in
Boot directly to recovery and let charge for a few minutes
Reboot into phone and continue charging

Or....toss a charged battery in and boot normally

I never even knew CWM had this problem. I have heard about the "empty battery not charging" problem, though. Either way, I was off on my suggestions. I thought he meant that the screen was on/lit, but it was just black.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had a battery every completely die out on me. I could've sworn most phones went into auto-shutdown as they hit 5% or so.

I tried just plugging in without the battery, and i still cant do any thing and i still have the same response where about a second or two after i plug in the charge light comes on and about 3 seconds later goes off, it wont let me boot with or without battery, and I cant access the bootloader either

I know normally creating a backup shouldn't do this, but it said in the instructions of installing this rom not too... ive tried every combination of pulling the sim, battery, plugged in or not and ive had no luck as of yet...

You can't boot without the battery in...I've tried it just doesn't work. Have you tried a different charger? Hopefully a wall charger

yes ive tried a wall charger and through my computer. I'm thinking that the batter is just so dead that it doesnt have enough juice to turn on to charge itself.. so ill be taking it to best buy today and tell them it wont charge, and hopefully this grants me a new phone.. crossing fingers...

I found this on XDA:
Left it on the charger for 15 minutes, no orange LED.
Remove the battery, connected to wall charger and held down both power and vol down for 15 seconds, nothing again.
Put the battery back in.
Connected to my computer and ran "adb reboot", it killed the adb server, but did not reboot the device.
Removed battery and reran "adb reboot", errored out again, device not found.
Left battery out and plugged it back into the wall charger, after a second or two the orange LED light up for a second or two, then went out.
Tried power and vol down again, nothing again.
Put my battery back in, orange LED came back on for a couple of seconds and then went out for about 5 seconds, then came back on and is sitting on the charger now charging.

hm, i think i tried that, but i gave up and took it back to best buy (because ive only had the phone for 6 days) and simply told them "it wont charge" and they gave me a new one :D thanks anyways guys!

Agreed, after alot of effort to download the leaked RUU, relock the bootloader, flash the leaked RUU, re-unlock the bootloader, flash Amon Ra, download and flash CleanRom ICS 4.1, reinstall all my data and apps, I finally got up and running, and it works great. I thought it was alot of work, I had problems at every step, but it was well worth the effort.

BTW - some are worried that you can't revert back to an earlier version of CleanROM because of having to flash the leaked RUU. But I assure you, you can revert back if for some reason you don't like 4.0 or 4.1. Before you revert back to an older ROM, you need to download a file called GB_SD_card_fix.zip. Boot into Recovery, wipe your device, flash the older ROM, then flash the GB_SD_card_fix.zip file and you should be good to go. Unfortunately, I don't think any previous nandroid backups will restore properly since the RUU was changed.
