[ROM] ACE ROM v2.0 (No Further EC05 Development)

Would you like to see the CIQ Removal in the next release of ACE?

My understanding is Twilight is baked into the ROM.

Did you flash the kernal separately just to avoid any problems? Or am I missing something?

My experience. Been running ACE 2.0 for 2 days. One freeze on initial shutdown ... otherwise smooth sailing. Prior to this with some other EC05 based ROMS I developed issues with the music player freezing and instability as I themed the ROM and added some other apps.

I'll report back more later as I take ACE through a full spin.

Thanks Paul for what appears to be another business level stability ROM.

Apologies- you are correct that Twilight is baked into the ROM. I was a bit unclear; I didnt really do much to ACE except install some apps I use and checked for bugs to inform Paul627g about. I then decided to try flashing the Genocide kernel to take advantage of the manual undervolting, but that didnt work out too well. I have continually had issues with SMS/MMS using that kernel for some reason, despite a kernel having seemingly nothing to do with such an issue. Also, I had many freezes due to using this kernel (regardless of undervolt settings). I THEN flashed back to Twilight kernel since VisionKernel has reportedly bricked many phones, Bonsai's kernel is mostly stock, and from what Ive gathered by the fact that Hero_Over's Baked Snack thread has a GPL notice from the forums on the bottom of his post and his seemingly obfuscated mention of generic "improvements and tweaks", I dont use his kernels. No disrespect to the guy and I admittedly know nothing about whether or not he has or has not violated the GPL, but as a Linux zealot I am not paying him $5 or taking the risk..

Just to make things clear... sorry for the confusion..

Well, I Wiped the phone at reinstalled Ace 2.0 and then installed Allshare and it seems everything is working fine now. I'm thinking something I had downloaded before i installes AllShare cause an issue. It's probably best if anyone is going to install and apps that were on the Sprint Rom, to install them before installing anything else.

Thanks for looking into it though.
Good to hear its running now.

Correct me if im wrong Paul627g, but shouldnt he be able to flash any CIQ free theme?

Scroll down until you get to the Themes section on ptfdmedic's MidNight page and you should be able to use any of those. I think that would give you a MidNight theme (including possibly the MidNight Dialer), but they are nice and that would give you something other than the Android dude..
Yes you should be able to install any themes that are "certified" to run on Syndicate/Bonsai/midNIGHT and now ACE. If I have enough time tomorrow (Tuesday) I will try and put up the same "theme" ACE has now with the except bring back the v1.7 Battery Mod and maybe one other to give you all some options to flash. Sound good?

Yes Twilight is included in ACE ROM v2.0. Actually I've been running Vision Kernel v1.1. Nothing against Twilight but on occasions I get some lag and it seems like Vision clears it up. I do also recommend if you have any problems with kernels running at 100 Mhz for your bottom number to bump it up to 200 Mhz and it should wake and run smoother.

Kernels play a big part in the way ROMs act as you can tell from playing around with different kernels/settings. Actually Hero's kernels are quite good, I just wish he updated a bit more often. Unfortunately since he hasn't complied with Android Central's GPL policy we can't provide links to Baked Snack and his work like we did in the beginning, but all it takes is a moment on Google to locate his work.

Thanks for the info but not really a fan of the midnight theme and I like the stock dialer etc.. Want to keep the original Ace theme just change the battery (if possible?)

Hang tight until tomorrow jpeepers and I will have the 2 previous versions of battery mods I had in v1.7. You can see "Previews" of those on the OP, or in the 2nd post there is also flashables from v1.7 (Don't flash them) but they have previews to see what I'm talking about.

Sound good? Another day won't hurt will it? Then you can have the same "ACE" look with a different battery mod.

I noticed some lag as well, but only if I set the conservative governor in SetCpu.. it would cause lag until something forced the cpu to scale to 200 or greater. Changing the governor to On Demand fixed all issues for me, but I'm sure that brings down battery life a little.. I suppose setting the minimum to 200 would also fix things. I never have found a definitive answer on whether any power savings occur if using 100mhz instead of 200; my experience with linux on laptops suggests that the lower you scale the better the battery life, but then most cpus scale down voltage as the clock speed drops.. sucks that right now under ec05 we don't have many kernel options.

Id like to know if both 100 and 200 run at the same voltage, does it use the same battery? Does it matter if you are running 99% cpu at 100 or 1% in terms of battery life? Its hard to find answers on such questions as the android community isn't as technically focused as the linux community, and the linux community doesn't really go that deep into analyzing ways of getting infantesimal battery gains..

Awesome! I did see the flashables from 1.7 and that is what I was looking for but I saw they were for EB13 so I wasn't going to try them.

Thanks again!

I've gotten used to the Android guy, but it is a little harder to read so ill prolly flash to a circle mod when you post it- thanks for the hard work :)

Sounds good on the battery mods. I went with something different on v2.0 because I was just bored with the old mods but hey I'm flexible and willing to provide what I can. Tomorrow I should have enough time to throw together 2 optional bat mods for you to flash, everything the same just a battery mod change.

Cool, sounds great :D

I would like to encourage anyone deciding between journaling and non-journaling to seriously consider going with the former; it is worth the imperceptible speed and battery losses to not have any issues and the ROM going to crap after a few days..

17 hours of use and 42% left on the battery.

Love it!

Do you ever even turn on the screen and use the phone??

Im at 16hours 30 minutes with 1hr 50 minutes screen on, some data usage (a few webpages) and some texting and im at 18%! Pretty good, but 42%?! Thats insane! Are you using the stock Twilight kernel and everything as it comes in ACE 2.0?

That is about what I had yesterday before I plugged in on Vision Kernel set conservative, 200-1000. 24 hrs with about 1hr 45 min screen time.

What, 18% or 42%?? Haha, big big difference there! What version of the Vision Kernel are you using exactly? Ive heard things about the VisionKernel bricking phones, but I suppose thats only likely if you try to run at 1.45 Ghz; last I checked v 1.2 of the kernel wasnt even available anymore due to the bricking phones issue..

Also, what other usage occurred? Ive noticed that data usage seems to drain battery faster than screen usage (most likely because they both occur at the same time)..

Having trouble inputting text...

Love the rom but I'm having trouble inputting text in the text box of maps and places app's.
Has anyone had the same happen to them using the new ace???

Of course, although I don't do a lot of game playing. I make phone calls. I send and receive frequent text messages. My pager messages are sent to my phone. I have GMail and Touchdown getting push email. Words with Friends updating. Pulse updating. Frequent calendar updates. Facebook now and again. Web browsing. On top of that, I am so thrilled with my phone's performance that I often just turn it on and play with the thing for no good reason. I also will have Winamp running for an hour or two daily. This cuts back the battery about 1/4-1/3, so ... about 30% battery left at 12 hours.

I would rate my use somewhere just shy of moderate in terms of screen use. I have Ultimate Juice running on "balanced" and I have the screen set to 10%. I think the screen brightness is a big factor. I know some people don't believe in Juice, but I noticed a difference.

I'm running ACE 2.0 with Vision 1.2.

So I flashed vision kernel 1.1 and had FC's all over the place! Anyone know why that would happen? Also does the vision kernel contain the random freezes?

Try booting back into CWM and running Fix Permissions in the advanced menu first...
