First, thanks to Paul for the release of ACE ROM 2.0, I'm sure it will be rock-solid before long just like the previous versions. My concern (below) is probably best addressed by Paul himself.
I am currently running ACE ROM 1.7 based on Froyo EB13/EXT4. I understand I can upgrade to ACE 2.0 by flashing the EC05 modem in CWM and then flashing the 2.0 ROM - easy enough.
With future upgrading and ROM flashing in mind, I was wondering if it would be beneficial for the long-term stability of the phone to Odin back to Eclair, do a stock upgrade to EC05 and then the EC05/EXT4 conversion before flashing ACE 2.0 (and subsequent versions), rather than stay with EB13/EXT4 for future updates.
I'd like to hear Paul's opinion on which version he thinks is better for future ACE updates - EB13/EXT4 or EC05/EXT4? Or does it really matter? My main reason for asking is I've read the thread about stock EC05 problems/concerns and it seems to have its own can of worms. I'm sure much of that is fixed in ACE 2.0 but...maybe not all? I've been quite happy with ACE 1.7 and would rather not throw a wrench into things just for the sake of following the "official" Samsung EC05 upgrade path - especially if there are no benefits in doing so.
So Paul...what say you? Thanks again for all your efforts!
You can really go either way right now while your running custom ROMs.
If your originally on EB13 rooted/EXT4, once you flash a EC05 based ROM like ACE/Syndicate/Bonsai/midNIGHT your technically then running EC05.
So at this point its really not going to matter if your EB13 or EC05 before you flash an EC05 based ROM. I have done it both ways, EB13 stock then rooted/EXT4 converted to a EC05 ROM and EC05 stock then rooted/EXT4 converted to EC05 custom ROM...
