ROM ALERT: Baked Snack v1.6 [update6]

Thanks Ragnarokx, appreciate your asking. Tell Hero we have some forum members here that are using ACS' rom but want to try his out. I was hoping to try out his Rom and a few of the kernels, but couldn't get to the downloads while at work.

Thanks again, appreciate it. Just to make sure I remember from earlier today, the 1.6 ROM has a kernel, but if I want his ultra-low voltage kernels, the best battery life is with Ultimate, if that doesn't work, next is step 2, then baby steps, then works for all. Is that right?

Now, does anyone have the page with the instructions that he provided in his post that was taken down that included what program to run and how to go into terminal to disable 270 rotation?

Why not wait for his permission?

I'm not uploading his ROMs to a file sharing site and posting links as I originally planned - just sharing a link to a publicly accessible page on Hero's website.

Yup, that's the right kernel order. But as for the disabling 270 degree instructions, I don't have that sorry :( I know it was a very simple edit of a file, something like "270 rotation = no" but I don't know which file contains this.

Closest I found to instructions are to open up a terminal, type su, then type 180forme.sh, then reboot

Not sure how to open up a terminal, but I assume there is a terminal program in the market I can download. I remember hero saying something about including it in the rom somewhere, but can't remember...

I guess, as long as you feel okay with it. Seems kind of underhanded to me, also looking at your source.

That source is actually a developer that has worked with Hero before, so I'm assuming that's why he knows his way around bakedsnackshack.

OK, installed ROM and then ultimate kernel. Worked for about 3 minutes before 1st battery pull. Next time, powered off on its own in 2 minutes. I think I'll dial back to step 2 and see how that works.

I'm running BS 1.5 and Ultimate kernel with no issues at all other than cell standby battery drain... which brings me to my question... I got pretty good battery life on 1.3, and don't recall having the time without signal issue... can a ROM affect this battery stat, or is that just something more related to the radio (DI18) and how it interacts with your particular hardware (Epic 4g for me)? In other words, is it possible that while I don't recall having this issue on BS 1.3, something about the 1.5 ROM could be causing me to have this issue, or am I imagining that? Other than that, any reason for me to upgrade to 1.6 right now if I'm otherwise happy with 1.5 and the ultimate kernel?

Thanks for any advice... it's annoying trying to remember to toggle airplane mode every day to avoid the time without service bug...

I'm pretty sure you just don't recall. Every ROM I've ever run, including BS v1.3, has had the TWS problem.

Thanks... I think I'm just going to set up Tasker to toggle Airplane mode a couple of times a day in the meantime until the issue gets resolved officially... is it worth exploring a hardware swap, or is that not likely to fix the issue? Also, as relates to my other question, if I am reasonably happy and set up on BS 1.5 using ultimate, any reason to upgrade to 1.6 at this point? I looked at the updates in the latest ROM and didn't seem all that revolutionary vs 1.5...

Thx

I would update to 1.6 ... there were improvements to the relationship between the theme / rom / and under volting kernels. Which means more battery life.

Under volt is kernel

And the ultimate didn't work with me. So I went back to syndicate. Is it working with you guys?
It worked until I tried to use setcpu and then it would turn off/freeze

Not really. Might try it later if I feel like it

But did you have any problems with ultimate?
And did it work with setcpu?

I am using Ultimate and haven't had any major issues other than freezing twice (during playing music and using tyhe NY Times app). However, I don't notice the super batter life that others are talking about. Could be that I am using the phone more, but the battery life has been worse compared to before I rooted. I only rooted the phone to drastically improve battery life!

Anyways, when people are talking about the "awesome battery life" with these kernels (especially ultimate), how long is their battery lasting?

Using Ultimate I would freeze while playing Angry Birds, so I went to Step 2 and haven't had an issue since.

I've been able to go well over 24hrs with light usage.

I am using Ultimate with Set CPU at 100-1200 with no issues at all... don't recall any freezeups over the past few days... I am on BS 1.5 though, not 1.6 so don't know if that makes a difference... my battery life seems pretty good... for the poster earlier on this page with battery issues, make sure you check on the time without signal bug... I hadn't been paying attention to it and just noticed again this week that I was regularly over 50%... after toggling airplane, my battery life has improved drastically combined with Ultimate...
