ROM ALERT: Baked Snack v1.6 [update6]

Baked snack is shut down on xda, and 1.6 is not available on bakedsnackshack.com's donate forum.

seems like all my playing with kernels is leading to glitches. I'm back to baked snack 1.3 but I get forced closes on k-9, launcher pro, and facebook... once on xscope. should I reload rom and kernel with wipe?

Just FYI, ultimate only lasted about 10 minutes before I gave up after 3 freezes. Tried step 2 today. Worked great all day until I made a phone call. When the screen would go off for proximately, couldn't get it back on. Had to battery pull, then reboot. Tried again 3 more times, same result.

Gave up and flashed back to acs rom with extreme kernel. I wanted to give the new baked snack a shot, but I value stability as top priority (if not, I would give the froyo rom a shot). I'll try out the new acs rom tonight.

You didn't try the babystep?

Nah, figured once I get down to the 3rd best kernel, I'm not really gaining much (if anything) vs. extreme kernel. I like playing around with these roms and kernels a bit, but I don't have enough time or patience once I got past a few steps. Also, now that hero is off xda and the downloads are not on his site, there's no support anymore for fixing bugs. ACS has a new rom out tonight, and their developers practically live on XDA. Solutions may go over my head a bit, but they've always tried to help.

With froyo coming out and the roms and kernels changing daily, I value stability first, knowing that there will probably be 2-3 updates on roms or kernels this weekend anyway.

Very concise! I'll be following your train of thought =D I recently upgraded to Syndicate Rom 1.02 with LauncherPro Plus, and i'm LOVING it.

How do I disable the ad blocker in this rom? Having it on is keeping audiogalaxy from working.

Sorry, no idea on that one. You might try contacting the dev on his website bakedsnackshack.com

anyone have a vanilla lock screen that works with 1.6 and confirmed? thanks

Go here and download the link next to
"Here's a .zip that has both the AOSP lockscreen mod and reboot button mod together:"

If you flash just the vanilla lock screen, it takes away reboot on the power down menu. This one however retains it.

thank you for that, also, if i dont like it, , how do i go back to the one i have now (that came with 1.6)?

I find it funny everybody is doing it in the opposite order Hero suggests and then talks about the instability. Baby Step first - Step Two second - ultimate third.

did it ever occur to you that maybe people only gave it a shot to use the ultimate kernel for battery?

thats why i gave it a shot. i decided if ultimate does not work then i dont really care for it. acs has been too supportive and so professional that i prefer them over any other rom

In that same link, find where it says "Add reboot option to power off menu" and download the zip and flash using Clockwork.

Uh did it occur to you that the battery difference is negligible between all the steps? Which is why he suggests a progression, even the worksforall Bakedsnack has nearly double the batt life of ACS currently. ACS is not near as smooth as Bakedsnack either, currently the only improvement I see in the ACS rom is higher benchmark scores and more active support. Those scores definitely do not translate to smooth consistent operation within the ROMS.

Regardless of the reasoning for trying things in the complete opposite order of the Dev's suggestion, it is still comical when there are complaints about it. Glad you like the ACS though, my wife is running it on her Epic.

For the record, with a calibrated battery, the running difference between baby step and ultimate is 47 minutes and 28 seconds, the best I can tell.

well when the dev says "ultimate has extremely good battery life - step 2 has pretty damn good battery life - baby works for everyone"
then of course im going to go straight for ultimate.

to me, i think he is saying try in order because they are buggy for certain people. it has nothing to do with checking the battery comparison or anything like that. its simply some phones are not compatible with those kernels.

and i think acs is pretty smooth. do you mind elaborating?
in fact i think nearly all the roms are smooth. hell even the stock is smooth. so please expand.
as far as battery i dont care too much because im usually on a computer and i use my phone for its sd card to store all my drafting and computer stuff.

The reason I went in reverse order is time. I find calibrating a battery a pain, so I didn't want to try works for all, calibrate twice, then flash baby steps, calibrate, flash step 2, calibrate, wait for crash, go back to baby steps, recalibrate, etc.

As Shaundizzle says, Hero made it sound like ultimate and step 2 had really good battery life, but baby steps and works for all were just ok. If there is that little of a difference amongst the 4, then releasing them all just gave extra work for us testers, and had I known, I probably would have started with baby steps and just left it there.

I don't blame Hero for doing this, especially because he is doing this for free and it's not his responsibility to pick the best kernel for my phone. Having said that, I'm going with the easier option, which is ACS. I'm spending enough time already on tweaking my phone as a hobby, but that's all it is for me, just a phone and a hobby. If I was employed as a beta tester for samsung, this would be a whole different story.

On a side note, I also agree that I find acs smooth, baked snack 1.3 was smooth, and even 1.6 was smooth (until I made a phone call, then it was crash central on ultimate or step 2 for me). Other than battery life differences, which nearly every poster seems to have a different story about, what differences are you finding?

When I mean smooth, I mean transitions and opening apps, ACS gets quite jerky, where to me baked snack does not. I will update my sig tonight, I currently have three Epics in the house.
