[ROM] Android Open Kang Project

Well, not just foursquare, but apps like yelp or any other check-in apps have some sort of benefits to them. The only thing I avoid doing is having post to my facebook feed. I hated using these apps at one point, and kind of still do, mainly because they tracked where you're at for the public/friends to see. I simply don't care for that, but then when they add discounts or free stuff like a shot (which is awesome btw, saves you on $10), it's hard to avoid such apps.

I agree. I once got free fries at Cluck U (the best chain wing place I have ever eaten at, BTW) for a FB checkin, but unfortunately that was a one-time only deal.

I got free Chipotle once using one of those apps, and if you ask me, that particular occurrence was the first evidence I've seen of a god. \m/

I dirty flashed twice before I came out of my zombie like mode yesterday and did a wipe.

Love 39 as opposed to 38. I know, I know it doesn't affect signal but I am using 39 with the default kernel and all seems well for now.

I check in with foursquare and get better deals than yelp, fb, etc.
love me some foursquare and when local dunkin donuts doesn't honor their program, I tweet and receive free stuff in the mail.

Man, I [deleted] live and die for DD. I say that and people don't understand that I'm referring to Dunkin' and not Dungeons and Dragons. Haha

Never found any build to be "buggy" (save for the Linaro builds which were meant to be test builds for crackflashers and whatnot).

In this world about 99% of 'bugs' people find with ROMs and stuff are the result of user error, bad apps you have installed, not wiping fully, or restoring bad data after you wipe.

I haven't found any bugginess with an official AOKP build in months, and I've flashed all of them.

when i say buggy sometimes if i am in an app and close it my weather/clock widget has to reload and sometimes when i am typing my keyboard is sloooow and sometimes locks up stock txt app.

Both are more likely the result of having too much stuff ("crap") eating up memory on your phone. The homescreen redraw is typical, but depending on what launcher you're using it can be limited. Apex launcher gives you an option under Advanced to Keep launcher in memory, which keeps the launcher from closing when you're in resource-heavy apps or multiple apps. I don't know what launcher you're using or if Nova has the option, someone else will have to chime in.

There are also fairly simple hacks that can be done to force the launcher to stay in memory, tho I haven't bothered reading over them since I use Apex and it has a handy check box to accomplish this, lol.

Do you think there are any adverse battery effects to checking it as "keep in memory?" (I, too, use Apex.)

Shouldn't be. If there are they are negligible, I've had it set that way for a long time.

I'm no battery nut though and people who go insane about minor battery things drive me nutso, haha. When idling over wifi I like to see the phone lose about 1% an hour, give or take. Beyond that I really don't stress it. Whenever you aren't at home on wifi then signal stuff affects the battery a lot and I don't even bother paying attention. If I'm going to be away for a long time and expect to be using the phone a lot I bring my charger. And I got a $2 car adapter from monoprice.com that you can plug the standard usb cable into and it works like a charm when I need to charge while driving.

People who search for the absolute maximum battery life and screen-on time stuff (not accusing you, lol, just saying) just waste time and energy and pollute forums with battery screenshots and silly questions and demands and yadda yadda yadda...IMO. Bring a charger and stop whining (again, not you or anyone specifically, just a general rant :) )

Ha, no worries. My awareness is generally more concern-based, rather than utilitarian-based. If something is wonky or acting inappropriately, I want to squash it.

In general, I want to be aware of the risks on potential battery drain in an effort to be ready. (Say, for example, I want to play Angry Birds - I know I need to bring a charger with me if I plan on playing for any extended period of time.) I'm almost ALWAYS near an outlet, and I even have a spare battery, so I'm rarely worried about it (like you).

I just don't want some rogue app killing my battery when I can avoid it :)

I gotcha :)
Yep like I said I've seen no noticeable issues at all keeping Apex in memory. If I had to take an educated guess, I'd say it would be more likely to cause a little slowness in launching apps, multitasking, etc.. than to take any toll on battery, but I can't really say I've noticed any of that either.

Haha yeah clearing crap off will definitely help. Quick piece of advice, when uninstalling apps, go to the app info, hit clear cache and data for it first, then hit uninstall.. great way to get it's unneeded data off your phone before uninstalling the thing.

Another thing that's a pain.. most apps store some data on your SD card that will remain there even after the steps above, not only taking up sd space but slowing you down as your system will always be reading that data. I recently did a full cleaning of my phone including the sd card and it worked wonders. Couple ways to accomplish it.. either lock and then unlock your bootloader, or you can flash this file in recovery: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/47300967/CMPLX6_CLEANER_FULL.zip
That should wipe your data and sd card while leaving your system (ROM) intact so you have something to boot into. Of course you'll want to backup everything you NEED and move it to your computer first, then you can just move it back afterwards (camera pics, nandroid backups, tibu backup files.. can all be saved and moved back after).

Not saying you need to do all that of course, but if you're interested and haven't cleaned stuff out in a long time I sure recommend it :)

A full cleansing is always recommended. I could use other terms for that, but alas, this is a G-rated site :).
