I know in ChompSMS you can change the size of the message

On Scott Pilgrim we have to split the txt messages to 160 Max. Anymore, it wont send. However on mms there are no such limitations (there are but its like 8k or 4k or something). Has anyone looked onto the ril? I assume someones used the mms.apk from Scott pilgram? What kernel does aosp use?

i installed the latest aosp last night and it is noticably faster. it also boots a lot quicker and has a few other bells and whistles and it is 2.3.4 which patches the password vulnerability published last week.

only reason i haven't tried zefie's mms.apk on aosp's is because aosp is deodexed while zefie's isn't. not sure how much of a difference this makes...

google fixed that server-side, so nobody's affected anymore

I just tried the 20110403 build and found out that its also not deodexed. It was the last aosp before they deodexed. Now that brings up some questions.... anyone good with code/programming? Please pm me. We should be able to figure this out!

Anyone run both the cyanogenmod and aosp? Assuming you picked aosp, why? Just curious on what I am potentially missing out on. I like all the settings on cyanogenmod and it runs rock stable/fast.

Hi,

I just loaded "rXTy.nexus.cm7.mms.apk", which is a deodexed CM7 app, extracted mms.apk from it, moved it over to /system/app, installed it there, and then rebooted. Sprint messaging now shows up as a app and everything seems to work. I have not tried receiving a picture mail yet, but thought this information might be helpful to everyone. I am running AOSP 5/23, and the messaging app had never shown up before in the app list.

As far as I can tell, aosp has all the features of a typical cyanogenmod build, but cuts out much of the extra content. So you won't have all the wallpapers and things like that. At times, I do notice it being faster and snappier, but I honestly tried it because it was just 'another' CM7 build and I wanted to try it to see how it was. Once I was pleased with it, I ended up keeping it. I don't think there's any huge advantages of one over the other, since they're essentially the same thing (cm7). I could be wrong, though.

On an unrelated note to this, I'm not sure if message size is the problem for mms. I installed handcent and that's got an option to 'compress' the image when you attach it for sending. After that was done, it still wouldn't send. I also tried the mms.apk file posted in this tread a while back and that didn't work, either. I definitely had mms working in an earlier build using handcent (I switched to GOsms for a bit, but that's become quite buggy lately, so I switched back to handcent) - but that might have been in a build of Scott Pilgrim. I can't exactly remember.. I'll keep looking for clues.

I was talking with aosp yesteday and we are working on some things to address the mms issue. There are a couple of places that some information needs to be changed, but they are not working correctly. The mms.apk has to have the mms-conf.xml file modded, but after doing that and reinstalling the mms.apk, the app disappears from the app drawer and is no longer accessable. Aosp also made some changes in the framework.jar that I have not been able to test yet because of the mms.apk issue. It is definitly not an apns-conf issue either nor is it a size limit issue. Still working on it more today and will report back once we get it fixed.

Good to hear someone else is talking with him on this. I will be extremely busy for the next couple of months and was wondering where I would find time to explore this. I knew I was on the right track. Sounds like you guys are going the same direction I was going. And it was obvious (after some testing) that it wasn't the apn. Let us know what happens! Thanks for the update and for contributing!

the bug that keeps me away from this rom is the in-call volume. is there any place that I can adjust it?

No problem. For anyone who wants to, join xda and post on his thread there. He is more than willing to support for OS, but wants people to post problems there so he can keep up with it. You can also join the irc channel in his signature on xda for support as well. I am there usually every day during the week.

Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing you in irc. I wish I had the time to get back in there. I have been posting on xda and hope everyone else will too.

tried this it just restores normal messaging app doesn't fix mms receiving

Do you know the date of the build? They are usually labelled like 20110011 for example. You may be able to look in the About phone section on the phone. Although all of that info isn't always correct, it would help get us a starting point.

It's the 0403 build. Her phone was also on the original LG software v9? before I installed the ROM. I doubt if her PRI or PRL were ever updated, I don't recall doing. The clockwork I used was the one from AOSPs thread. It just switches the menu and home buttons.

I've sent and received pictures, and multiple pictures that get converted to a slideshow. I haven't tried a video, but I will when I get back home.

Yep. That build is the last version that works with sprint. I think we are on the verge of figuring this out as a community. Its a good ROM and would be a great one with a few small fixes...

Yeah its worked so well for her I haven't felt the need to update her from that one. She gets nervous when she sees me with her phone since the last time I didn't back up her woman log.
