[ROM]GB 2.3.4 gingerbread-evo-deck [1.0][2.3.3 Stable][1.2c][2.3.4 Beta]

What kernel are you running with it? Or is that just SetCPU or something?

How did you do that?!?!?

It really wasn't that hard. :-) Just make sure you don't have a lot of bells and whistles running. That's really about it, I can keep my 3g on just about all day...I turn it off if I'm not going to be using it for a while. I keep the screen brightness on auto and keep syncing, bluetooth, 4g and GPS turned off unless of course I need them. Another thing to make sure of is the background syncing you can have in other apps you have, such your weather apps and what not....male sure they arent syncing on a super frequent basis. Other than that, I haven't done anything special to the ROM. Thought about trying a couple of differ Savage kernels but honestly with the performance I'm getting...I'm probably gonna leave it the way it is. I would definitely recommended this ROM to any EVO user. :-)

if you want to update to this GB ROM, do you have to update the Kerner as well?

I currently have VaelPak 3.0 with Kerner in which it came with the ROM.

I'm really loving this ROM, check out these battery stats. :-)

Quick question, are saying that you got 1 day and 7. 5 hrs on one charge? Or are you talking about what percentages the different systems use?

I ask because in you screenshot I can count 8 different times that you plugged in your evo.

I was just saying, I'm really digging how the system is handling battery distribution. I am pretty I've convinced myself to try out another kernel though, just to see the differences. What do you think? :-)

All ROMs come with their own kernel cooked into it. So, when you flash from one ROM to another ROM there is a good chance that the Kernel is going to change (unless they both happen to be running the same Kernel). Each Developer has their preference in Kernels. Kush (the Developer of this ROM) is big on battery life, so he has cooked in a Kernel that is known to improve battery life. You can flash your own Kernels, but you need to read up on them before flashing. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages depending on what you are trying to accomplish. Also, Kernels are specific to Sense and AOSP, so maker sure you get the right one for the ROM.

I gotta double check to see what apps I have running in the background. I do have Weather Bug but not sure what the sync frequency is. I recently changed Seesmic updates from 10 minutes to an hour. Wonder what else I have going on and forgot about :p

Ok.... was hoping that was what you were posting about. I'm really impressed with how this rom runs too. I'm not sure if its what kush has done with this rom or if its Gingerbread but, it does handle its self very well. I do think some of it has to do with all of the Sprint crap...sorry, bloatware :-)) not being installed (as with most custom roms) and the changes to things like how the screen handles things like black backgrounds and the what ever other things have been optimized by Google or kush. But what ever it is... it works!!!!

I've tried out a couple of different kernels (Tiamit & Savage) with this rom and I keep coming back to the baked in CM kernel. It just works great with this rom. And almost everytime I install a new kernel I run into an issue with less than ok battery life, freezes here and there or something along those lines. With the CM kernel I get none of that.

I get about 14 to 15 hours on a single charge... for me that's more than enough for my needs. And I think I would consider myself a medium user. Half hour of music(PowerAmp or Pandora) to work and on my way home, check the weather once or twice(WeatherBug), about an hours worth of phone calls through out my day (mostly work related... so 5 to 10mins each), 20 to 30 short texts and emails (sent and received) a little bit of web browsing and YouTube, say 20 to 30mins. And around 10mins a day of video chat using gtalk (chat with my little girl after school everyday). And I still get home with 30% to 40% battery left.

Almost everything that uses data I do through a wifi connection, almost never (if ever) use 3g or 4g. And never USB or wifi tether to my laptop or Xoom (free wifi is everywhere here).

I do the same things you do though. I keep my radios off till I need them, I don't have any of my accounts or apps set to auto sync. I keep my screen around 40% unless I'm outside and can't see it because of the sun or glare.

I don't use CPUset, I use an app called CPU Master(Free) by AnTuTu. I have the governor set to "ondemand" with the scaling set to 245MHz for min and 1113.6MHz for max. Which I'm guessing is the min and max for the CM kernel.

The only other roms I've used that even come close to battery life were CM7 with the stock CM kernel and Miui(GB) with a Tiamit kernel. And both of those roms are based off of 2.3.3/2.3.4 so.....

I keep hearing that old saying... " if it ain't broke..." but then again, we are running custom roms on rooted devices so....

Lol, yeah man. If your not careful, its easy to have a bunch of stuff running. Try that "System Panel" app out, it'll let you know what's draining you down. Saved me quite a few headaches. :-)

Thanks for the heads up on that! I actually saw some apps that I don't even use anymore running in the background so I just uninstalled them.

does anybody have the latitude widget file? i found that was really handy for a quick reference without having to wait for the program to load.

BTW, installed this ROM today, been HEAVILY using the device in a very low to no service area, on WiFi, and at 47% remaining on the battery. I'm very pleased with it so far, everything seems to work very well.

Dig it man, this ROM is doing a nice job of securing its spot as my daily driver. :-) I'm glad you mentioned governing the CPU, had completely forgotten to do that...lol. Now all that is left to do is wait for the final version to release and at the rate he's going....it wont be long. :-D

Not a problem my friend. I've ran into a few of those from time to time, they don't last long after that...lol. Heck, looking at my app list...I don't really have very many installed. I just have a lot of Titanium backups. :-P

as a complete rooting noob, i decided on rooting and installing this ROM. after 2.5 hours of scratching my head, wondering and praying that i hadn't bricked my phone i was welcomed to the beautiful 2.3.4 look of android.

whew. it's sure nice to be on top :)

Has anyone flashed the new radio update while using this ROM? Just need to know if it breaks anything.

UPDATE: Some people are reporting the loss of thier RSA keys. Be sure to do a nandroid before flashing this, just to be safe. :-)

I am new to this. Do the Rom makers take the official release and incorporate it into their existing Rom? Or do they make a new Rom? I am just wondering what is the process when the official update comes out. Is this Rom comparable to the official one or is this better?

This rom is built off of the official "Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread". Its an AOSP(Android.Open.Source.Project.) rom, it has none of that pesky junk like htc's Sence or all of that crapware that the carries put on a stock device. It is pretty much as stock Android as you can get with out a getting a Nexus phone.

If your rooted you DO NOT want to do the OTA update from Sprint. There is a 50/50 chance that it will mess up your phone. Not to mention with out jumping through so hoops, so to speak you'll lose root. See this thread to see what I'm talking about : http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...thout-flashing-new-rom-wiping-your-phone.html on

Isgotsanevo did a nice write up here : http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...root-upcoming-2-3-gingerbread-ota-update.html about root and the new update. Its a good and informative read.

Remember this rom(Decks 1.2) is a AOSP rom. It has no HTC Sence and no Sprint bloatware. So if your a fan of Sence this may not be the rom for you.

And to your question about this rom being comparable or better than the official Sprint update??? The two are kind of night and day, meaning they really give two different user experiences. Any AOSP rom that I've used has always been faster an smoother running then any Sence based rom, at least in my opinion. Most Sence roms do have a bit more of a polished look to them and to me look a bit more flashy.

Its really up to you, flash this rom, get it all setup. Play with of for a bit, then do a nandroid backup of it. Then if you want to try out the new OTA flash this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038701 follow all of the install methods that are posted in that thread. It will let you check out the new OTA and keep your root.

Again its really up to you when it comes to picking a rom. Sometimes I think its harder to pick out a rom than it is to root your device!!! You already rooted so thats out of the way.

Edit : On a personal note..... post 300 for me!!!! Woot Woot Woot!!!! I had a speach written, its some where around here.... just can't seam to find it now!?!? Any way I'd like to thank my mom for being the best, the big Guy up stairs....(music starts... and fades to commercial).......
