[ROM][GINGERBREAD] CyanogenMOD 7 Nightly Builds.

I just wanted to drop in and say that I recently re-flashed to CM7 RC2 (no nighty's) after flashing the radio and so far it's running great. Very fast without all the VZW crapware. I know this isn't a final release but for RC2 it's running pretty sweet. I'm loving the 360 degree screen rotation.
Very Glad to hear :) Don't shut out the nightlies though, other than 29 and 30, they are all great (if not better). I am on the newest nightly, but so far 28 has been my absolute favorite, combined with incredikernel! Have fun ;)

Im going from #28 to #31. I will see if I can find the easy way to take the carriers name off the notification pull down ;)

This change

Gerrit Code Review

Is not a change to add the ability to change the carrier name.

It's a change to turn a hard coded background color into a variable that can be defined and used elseware.

Old Code:
android:textColor="#ffdfdfdf"

New Code:
android:textColor="@color/carrier_label_text_color"

Sorry. :(

So I decided to flash nightly 31. WOW!!! Super fast and everything is working great. I am loving the 360 degree screen rotation and no VZW crapware. Would love to see a scrolling dock like in Launcher Pro. Also, is there a way to silence the camera shutter sound without being in silent mode?

You can find a mod for the Camera Sounds here:

[MOD] Mattyg, UserJF, Battery Mods, AudioBoost, Camera Shutters, Data Throttle, More! - xda-developers

There are some other mods as well. You'll lose them when you flash the next nightly. You will also have to get the latest version for the current nightly so it's a bit of a PITA, but it's there. ;)

Try this link xda-developers it may help, may not... Only thing I could really dig up right now... i have never really tried to add sound to my animations (kinda like it quiet)

Finally got a chance to go back to RC2 from Virtuous. Downloaded nightly #31 and flashed it but it seemed like it flash a little too fast, like it might not have flashed at all. How can I tell. Under settings>about phone it just tells me i'm using Mod Version CM7 RC2...doesn't give me any indication of it being nightly #31 or anything.

I am using 31 and my phone says "Mod Version CyanogenMod-7-03262011-NIGHTLY-Inc"

Are you doing it manually via your PC or through your phone on ROMmanager?

Thanks. Rather than boot into recovery, I just extracted the camera_click.ogg file and used Root Explorer to overwrite the file in system/media/audio/ui. Gezzz, I gotta start saving all these tips in a spreadsheet. :)

Did it manually. Seems like i've always had problems flashing stuff. Sometimes it will flash right other times it won't. Its not like this is the first time i've flashed stuff either. Just no sure where i'm going wrong.

downloaded straight from CM website.
had to make it a zip cause my mac always un-zips it
stuck it on root of the sd (did not rename it)
booted into recovery, wiped cache, wiped dalvic, installed zip from sd
rebooted when done

what am I missing?

you need to do a "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" (last resort) as well then wipe the cache and dalvic

You DO NOT have to do a "wipe data/Factory reset" right yet... ONLY AS LAST RESORT...

sounds like you did everything perfectly.... just to make sure, did you delete the RC2 from your SD card...

I am at a loss, other than the fact that I use a PC and winzip, your doing it the same way I do. the only thing I use ROMmanager for is my nandroids.

try it again

I flashed nightly 31 this morning using rom manager:

Did a search for .zip files on my sd using Astro and found a bunch but they're all in seperate folders, sometimes two or three folders deep. things like Virtuous ROM files, gapp files, virtuous custom kernals etc etc. mostly in the clockworkmod folders , and a file or two in the Android/data folder.

Do i need to delete these...i thought if it was only on the root of the SD did it need to be moved or deleted?

No, you do not have to delete them. The only reason I do is because I use a 4 gig sd card And need the space.

I would try rebooting into manual mode and flashing it 1 more time.
1. Clear cache and dalvik
2. Reinstall zip again (31)

Here goes again.

After wiping the cache it says, cache wipe complete.
E:Can't mount //dev/block/mmcblk1p2"
(file exists)

Dalvik Cache wiped.

I install zip from sd and it gives me something like
opening package
installing package

then i'm back to the main clockwork recovery screen.
Im still using the last version of CWM before the 3.xxx version came out...would updating help?

Not sure... my clockwork says current recovery 3.0.0.5 ; latest recovery 3.0.0.8

Are you still not able to flash the newest nightly... if you cant do it through your PC... (i hate to say it) but use ClockworkMod to DL and install it, just make sure you don't check the box for full wipe, only check the box for GAPPS

im on the edge of my seat with you man, let me know if it works

Ok, updated CWM to 3.0.0.8
wiped cache
wiped dalvic
install zip from sd.
I get the following:
Finding update package
Opening update package
Installling update
Instillation aborted.

Am I just not meant to have a nightly...maybe i'll try #28, think i read good things about that.

Yes you are... 28 has been my favorite so far... im sure once PVille reads this, he will be able to give you a more solid answer.

So I see that you updated your CWM but did you actually try to DL and install 31 through CWM... I would try that, like i said just don't check box for full wipe, only check for cache wipe and gapps.

If you are able to download and install 28 then you have to be able to successfully installed 31 also
