Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.0 - 10/5 - GB 2.3.3 - ROM Updater and O/C'ed!

Thats why I love working for a datacenter...I've got my own server(s) on dedicated 100Mb ports. Gotta love the perks :)

What I'm curious about though is people's thoughts on the ROM Updater. Haven't seen much chat on the subject so I was curious as to the general consensus. I'm still rockin' the original gROM because I was waiting for a CM7 port but since that doesn't look like it will be out anytime in the near future I was thinking about updating.

ROM Updater is tight. But thats my opinon. lol... People love it on the EVO 3D.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.0 - 10/5 - GB 2.3.3 - ROM Updater and O/C'ed!

First of all, thanks for the phenomenal work! I picked the perfect day to root & flash my phone for the first time!

I had the EXACT same problem as this guy with the Optimus S:

im getting a error with wifi tether

Make sure you are setting the device profile to Optimus S

...but I played with the settings a bit and found what seems to be the proper way to go:
1. As Scott said, change the Device-Profile to LG Optimus S.
2. Change the Setup-Method to Netd(master)

I was able to connect up from my PC right afterwards. Unfortunately, the phone rebooted when I turned the tethering widget off from the phone. :( ...but it worked fine right up until then! :)

On the overclocking battery question, higher processor speed can help battery last longer because the screen itself is such a large power draw. Lets say you are browsing and checking emails -- faster CPU means you can download the same number of pages and emails faster, reducing the overall time that your phone is on. Depends on how you use your phone of course.

Your welcome and thats a known issue with the app. Hopefully the dev will make a fix for it!

Yeah, that's a good point!

CPU clock speed and data transfer/download speed are two completely separate things. It is a well-known fact that higher clock speeds use more battery because of the required increase in CPU voltage.

What CPU clock speed can affect is render speed. But IMO the render speed won't be affected enough to make any significant difference in overall battery life.

However, the main thing CPU clock speed does have a significant effect is in CPU-intensive apps such as games and benchmarking utilities. Case in point, I've found that Angry Birds (physics-based, so it's very CPU-intensive) performs much much better at 806MHz vs stock 600MHz.

You may want to look at your Rom Updater stuff. I looked through the files and you appear to be showing themes/icons/etc that are for the EVO 3D not the Optiumus S. I tried to install a battery icon, not knowing it wasn't for the Optimus and got stuck in a loop. Luckily I had a good backup. Also, I was able to install the Nexus One tones, but none of the others install now. I get the following error: Wrong Digest: META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script, signature verification failed. So I turned off verification and got: Error in /sdcard/scrosler/download/Mod_Tones_HTC_hub.zip (status 0)

Hmmm... Not ware of that option. If you can link me to something that explains it more I will certainly look at it.

Don't really have a specific link. I know that in cm roms, under settings, performance settings, there is an option to enable surface dithering. Basically it smoothes out the display and make colors blend better.

I use an HTC Hero so I know the option is available thru cm roms on there and thru a simple edit of the build.prop. something like "surface dithering=0" switch it to 1 and its on.

I'm not sure if the optimus s has this ability. I didn't see it in the build.prop. I also haven't tried theKraven's cm7 port so I don't know if the feature is in there. But it should be cause its a standard feature in cm7 as far as I'm aware.

Hope that helps, maybe someone smarter than me can clarify.

the option is there in Kravens CM7 and is on by default.

HOLLY STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorr about that... Something must have happened with the site move. It wasn't like that before. Easy fix though....

OK, I just confirmed with my host provider he goofed and grabbed the test files and did not update them. I will have to remake and re do all the files again :'(

For now I have disabled the ROM Updater.

Clock speeds will change the transfer / download speeds. Perceptually any ways... Pages will render faster saving time. Thats the point he was making.

But to your point... Maybe not enough to make that big of a difference.

[WARN]WARNING!

The ROM Updater files were somehow reverted to older versions during the site move yesterday. This was an error on my hosting providers part. Please do not use ROM updater at this time because the files are pointing to the test's that I was doing and that test included files for the Evo 3D. You will have massive issues if you try to flash those files. I will fix them all (again) tonight. Just a small road bump. [/WARN]

Honestly I never noticed the in call volume. IM doing this blind meaning I dont have service on this device. So its never been looked at. I should be able to get an operator error or something to test on. But... On the same note... You should be able to use the built in DSP Manager to kill some of that volume. How much? I dont know. BUt I know it can detune things a bit. Give it a look at and let me know.

When I was on version 1.0 I actually tried changing some DSP settings but that didn't help the volume much, if at all. It's funny that quite a few people reported this Gingerbread high volume issue on the Sprint forum and yet I haven't seen any complaints here. Anyway, I'll see how it goes with 2.0

I don't know about the other members of this forum, but I didn't complain about the call volume as I almost forget that my device is actually a phone. I don't even know if I have actually talked to someone on it since upgrading to Gingerbread. As long as the "ignore call" feature works, I'm good! Perhaps people on the official Sprint forums use their phone as an actual phone more often than those who frequent rooting/roms/hacks forums?

Thats true. I never use my phone as a phone. Any of them. I cant stand talking on the phone. Thats what email and text is for.

My in call volume is just fine. And I agree. I hardly talk on the phone anymore, except to my buds that dont have cell phones. Yes, I still have a couple....

The lost art of conversation....

I hear you guys though. Given the demographic we're speaking about (AC members), I wouldn't be surprised. I myself text more often than I call, so my monthly call time fell drastically once I got unlimited texting. However, my call time will probably never go to zero since call time depends not only on your habits, but also that of the people who want to communicate with you.

With some women, it's either you talk or they walk.

Wow. I usually only lurk the forums for updates and troubleshooting but i have give a big BRAVO to everyone involved with making this ROM. like...holy crap. I've never been able to get OCing to work on my optimus and this worked perfectly!
that animation when you shut the screen of it freaking mint, absolute money, it's the ribbon on all the goodies that is gROM 2.0.

I don't have a single negative thing to say because this has made the gingerbread upgrade totally worth it!

keep up the good work! i'll be making sure that I send donations your way!

I did her all... except for the kernel. That was Drew's handy work. I just pimped it out hard in the ROM. Drive it like you stole it my motto! lol

Donations? Did someone say Donations? I love Donations! Yes, send them my way. They help keep me out of hot water with the wife! Any hardcore flasher knows what I am talking about there!!!

Thanks man!

Keeps getting better with every update. Thank you for all the hard work.
