It will not even let me back up. The update file will not install. Keep getting the same error. O

Are you sure you have root access?

i will un root then re root and see if that does it.

i am running the stock odin 1 click back to stock then i am gonna try it again to see if that works.

Try following these instructions:

Download ROM Manager from the Market.
Flash Recovery.
Choose Captivate as your phone.
Accept the Superuser prompt.
Use ROM Manager to create a Backup.
On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
Watch the backup go!

I foolowed all your steps but I get an error saying "Ann error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"
Anything else I can do?

Try downloading super user app from the market then retry..... or try reboot into recovery from the rom manager

I checked that but it needs a Root. I haven't been able to Root my phone. And the instructions are complicated.

Oh no sorry I thought you had a captivate....go to the epic forums and look for how to root. You can't flash a rom without it

Thank you ragnarokx, I run the run file from oneclick. It ran some installation but it doesn't reboot into clockwork recovery. It just takes me to the regula Sprint Recovery.

My captivate has angered me for the last time. It is freezing up left and right and cant get anything done. I have the phone rooted through z4root. Is there a way to download and flash new roms all ota? I have titanium backup and ROM manager installed on the phone.

I am at work right now, so please excuse me if this is posted else where. I just dont have the time to sift through everything right now.

I feel your pain. Mine was acting the same way ... until 2 days ago. Then I rooted it and installed Cognition. Now it runs like an Indy race car.

I simply followed the steps in the videos from this forum. Piece of cake.

download it , put it to your root
wipe data and cache, and flash.
personally i would just wait till you got home so that if something goes wrong you can Odin yourself back to health though
