What exactly is Silent Mode anyway?

good catch sheepy!!! i love that. did you notice the lock screen, when you pull the bar to the right it puts it on vibrate and not silent. thats awsome. i cant tell you how annoying it. i like it!

but dont forget about his force close thing sheepy. i still think bad flash. :p.

A modest clarification to the above (apologies to the awesome Sheepy and gunnermike):

Previously when pressing on the lower volume rocker button, the volume would eventually allow you to go down to a Vibrate mode, then a Silent mode. Instead, you now go into a Vibrate mode (default setting) and that's it, no Silent mode, although "Silent mode" is listed as an option within the long press power button menu. Confusing? Yes!

The answer? Simply put, the phone is put into "Silent mode" by (a) lowering the volume all the way via the volume rocker button, (b) selecting "Silent mode" via the long press power button menu, (c) going to Settings>Sound settings>Silent mode and checking the box, or (d) sliding the lock screen slider from right to left (if you have the right ROM/patch like superclean 2.1 for example).

Now.....Silent mode is not necessarily silent! (Crazy, isn't it?)

Here's the skinny: you can now choose whether or not Vibration occurs during Silent mode by going to Settings>Sound settings>Vibrate, which gives you four options:

Always
Never
Only in silent mode
Only when not in silent mode

If you choose "Never" or "Only when not in silent mode", you will once again be able to go into "true" Silent mode (aka no vibration) when lowering the volume via the volume rocker button (or one of the other options for going into Silent mode mentioned above).

Hopefully that clears some things up for those of you who haven't delved into the Sound settings and figured this out already. If you already know this then, well, you'll never get the past 30-45 seconds back. Sorry about that!

(One other thought: there's only a bajillion posts in this thread and I haven't had time to read them all - I'm hoping and praying this hasn't been covered already. If so, major DOH on me. :-[)

I sat through restoring my apps with the free version of tb ONCE. After that it was well worth the small cost to me to upgrade. I do a batch restore and just let it go. Usually done within 10 minutes tops. And when you do a batch restore you can uncheck the apps you don't want to restore in the batch. Very important though as this caused a force close issue for me, DroidXcon told me to use all MISSING apps with data instead of all apps with data. Did that last night and absolutely no issues this morning. Phone is rocking fast.

IMHO, if you're a "flasher" ;), Titanium Backup PRO (don't be cheap for crying out loud) is a MUST have, plain and simple. Pays for itself in terms of what it does and the time it saves you.

And if your gunnermike (my god have mercy on you if you are ;)), heck, it goes beyond paying you back, its starts actually making money. Well, kinda in a theoretical sense.

Thanks for the clarification! It seems like they are going in the right direction with more notification options, i can't wait for them to finally get a feature like the BB sound profile option that lets you set everything up and switch between settings with one click.

As an aside, has anyone noticed that the new "vibration intensity" slider not only controls the touch feedback, like it says, but also the notification vibration intensity? Arrrgh!!! I am more than happy to not have it shake out of my hand as i navigate around the phone, but when its in my pocket on vibrate i would like it to be able to get my attention.

Also, i agree that this thread, at 800 posts, could probably have stood to been split up when the EB01 / SC 2.0 release came out... I know we are trying to conserve "front page" space but come on! 800 posts! Who can make practical use out of that unless they are a search savant?

Hi Adrynalyne,

I just loaded 2.1 and have a couple of questions I hope you don't mind answering.

1. Where can I get a stock Media player and Samsung Keyboard that is compatible with this version?

2. I also noticed the file I DLed was 345MB which is significantly larger than some of your others. I know it is debloated so what makes up the for the large file?

Thanks for all your hard work!

1. check farther down under DL30 Froyo in the OP for those files; they should work.

2. which file did you dl exactly? Sounds like the size of a stock bloated rom.

I tried the sammy_kb.zip files yesterday and i kept getting a force close so I figured they are not compatible. I'll try it again today and see what happens now that I am on the new SC ver.

I DLed the SC version that DxC posted and I too was shocked it was so large. That's why I wanted to reach out to A and find out what the deal was.

I releaded the KB and it seems to be working fine now. Now onto the stock Music Player. I will be curious to see if it still gets integrated into the lock screen... A favorite option for me as I use my FASN8 as an MP3 player when I go to the gym.

Not sure if this means anything but after installing EB01, when I go to About phone under the Baseband version it says, "S:i500.04 V.DL09" The Build number is EB01 though so not sure if everything is as it should be or if I should reflash.

Anyone know if this means anything?

Hey Adrynalyne,
Thanks so much for all the great work you do. I know you must be super busy with everything you are doing. But a lot of people have been asking about patches to get things back that aren't in your builds. I have seen posts throughout this thread where you have patches. I was wondering if you could list all the patches you have created in your op. I see there are a bunch of DL30 patches, and if those are the same ones you have scattered throughout the thread, never mind and thank you. Would just like to be able to direct people to one place when they are asking about patches. Thanks again for all your great work. You rock.

How did you upgrade to EB01? Which method did you use? Looks like you have the ROM, but not the modem.

Ah, I never flashed the modem. For some reason I assumed the rom contained everything since it also contained the kernel. Baseband shows the correct version now. Thank you.

However I am still having issues with the market and not being able to download apps. I have been able to download a few, but for the most part, 95% of the time the download is unsuccessful. I tried removing updates to the market and seeing if that works, but same result.

Any Idea.s

I was having some issues with downloading apps too. I found most of the time when an app wouldn't download I just hit download again and seemed to always have success on the second attempt. wait until the downloading icon in the notification bar disappears, then click on the app and click download (or update) again.

Could I get the difference in the voodoo versus the non-voodoo? In other words - what is the advantage to voodoo that everyone else praises so much. Is it worth me doing the whole process discussed in GunnerMike's new updated "How to Voodoo" thread? Please - if someone could try to answer this question for me, it'd really save me some time. Or heck - just point me somewhere that spells it out pretty good. Thanks in advance.

voodoo converts the way the system reads it self. i forget how but i know it does it makes it a bit faster and reduces lag. but if you are just getting started with flashing dont do it yet until you know what your doing.
