First time - big day

I decided to root my Fascinate for the first time today, AND flash this ROM. After applying the DL09 OTA update I was thoroughly disappointed with Verizon for messing it up and causing new problems with USB MSD access on my Mac. I had not rooted before and I have to say thanks to everyone for all of the great howto guides and tools.

The first root was applied against the DL09 OTA and it went fine, but when I applied this ROM with CWM I made a big mistake. At the first reboot after applying the zip, the phone went dark and unresponsive for what seemed like a long time after SAMSUNG appeared on the screen and I didn't think that was right, so I did a battery pull and restarted the phone. I think when I did this I interrupted the upgrade in the middle so it completely botched. I ended up wiping the phone and starting from scratch. Long story short, after a lot of reading of all the great rooting posts I got everything straightened out and now I'm running DL09 Super Clean 0.4 with the new Swype Beta installed. So, a warning to first timers - expect a long period of inactivity after that first reboot.

I was hoping this would fix the USB MSD mounting on my Mac but it did not. At least I don't see the Verizon VCAST ISO trying to mount any more.

I'll be playing with this for the next few days to get a feel for any improvements in speed and battery life, but so far it feels really good to have a real, unbloated, functional Android phone that is properly linked to Google the way it should be, instead of Bing. Many thanks to all who have shared the knowledge and techniques to make this possible.

Ok so after flashing supha clean.4 and my 12/30 non voodoo kernal. It was all going as planned until I realized there was no swype. I followed the instructions in the forum and the link to xda`s site but the link is not showing up. Is there another option to reinstall it.

All I did was DL the swype.zip and extract the .apk. I put it on my sd card and the copied it to my system/app folder. Has been working fine.

Hey Overcomer, did you try the kernal that was attached to the original post? Bluetooth working fine for me.

I got it working now...I mispoke earlier about flashing the kernal. I only flashed the ROM at first. I just flashed the updated kernal and all is well.

It's not hard, but the rooting/flashing process is just a little bit different than my Droid I was. I have never bricked a phone, but I have to take it nice and slow ;).

Thanks for the help!

Seems to be a common request, so yes.

In the meantime, go to beta.swype.com and sign up for the beta and get the very latest release.

Hey i flashed the rom over the old DL09 update and everything works great.. the only problem is that my facebook sync doesn't appear to be working... for the contacts at least? any idea what the cause of this may be?

I think I got it to work at least for me. I removed the Facebook account and added it again. Then when you get to the screen about how often you want it to sync, I used every 12 hours instead of once a day. For some reason that worked for me!.

When I pull the notification bar down in landscape view. Kind of in the middle but slightly more to the right is a black line that runs verticly. Doesn't show up anywhere else or in portrait mode. Anyone else have this

Its just in the "greyspace" where no notifications are, right? I see that too. Honestly I use it so little in landscape that it could have been there the whole time for all I know.

OK obviously I don't know what I am doing because I keep running into the same problem. I cannot flash anything via CWM. I was told this is because we cannot use Recovery 2e or whatever so I flashed CWM via from the sticky Adrynalyne posted on the forum but that didn't do anything.

Obviously I am doing something wrong but I just cannot figure it out.

I flashed D101 via odin, updated to DL09 OTA then rooted. I downloaded CWM from the market and tried to flash the rom, didn't work, same with test 3 kernel.

I tried flashing the CWM via odin from the sticky, still same problem.

Can somebody please give me a step by step as to what I need to do to get CWM working the way it is supposed to. I thought I followed the steps correctly but obviously I have not.

Thank you.

Nobody can help me out with this?

I would really appreciate any help, I cannot stand stock fascinate and I really do not want to return this phone (I have til the 24th of this month before I have to decide to keep it or not).

When you boot into recovery select apply update.zip

Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk

I don't have that option.

When I boot into recovery, on the top part of the screen it says:

Android system recovery <2e>

Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -

reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

The "reboot system now" is highlighted and I cannot do anything to select apply update.zip

On the bottom part of the screen it says:

Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

I tried applying the update.zip within cwm but when it reboots into recovery it gives this exact message. When I try to do anything with CWM, it reboots and gives this exact message every time.

what file are you using when you flash CWM via odin?

The modified file Adrynalyne provided on this page: http://forum.androidcentral.com/fas...lus-new-root-instructions-updated-1-15-a.html

I tried installing the rom manager from the market first, then flashing the modified file from adrynalyne. When that didn't work I flashed back to D101 and tried installing adrynalyne's file first then the rom manager; same result.

Not really sure what is going on but there was a time before the offical DL09 was released that I could use CWM from the market with no problems at all.

Redownload this and reflash it via odin

did you re-apply the setting with CWM at the top when it asks for your device? If so you may need to uninstall and reinstall or check the SU permissions.
