[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

On the "low battery causing partial/hard reset" issue I've been completely unable to re-create the problem under test conditions.

I drove the battery way low, allowed the phone to do a soft landing, then tried to turn it back on, which resulted in a reboot loop.

Thinking I stumbled onto the problem I let it continue to do that until it would start no longer, at which point I swapped to my full battery standing by, fully expecting to be met with a "touch the android", but nope, came back fine.

Doesn't seem to be the problem, but I'm not sure about the reboot loop or if there's anything that can be done.

So rather than come back empty handed, here's some test shots of a sunset in front of my shop today taken with the Epic's built-in camera's panorama feature.

Not bad for a silly built-in app, although the layout of the settings UI in the camera is garbage.

i noticed that i have some seriouse lag time on my home sreen shortcuts restoring after returning from apps... sometimes not at all but pretty frequent. seems to have gotten worse. probably because im running more apps now. anyone else experiencing this. Normal? any fixes?

Try Zeam or Launcher Pro from Market if you don't like TW Launcher or AM Launcher.

TW = TouchWiz (Samsung Built-in)
AM = AhmgskMod (TrulyEpic Built-in)

Unless you're talking about rotation lag, which is a different issue and you should consult the OP, yo.

Okay, I've run into a significant issue twice, similar to what has been mentioned earlier.

It happens after the battery has run completely out. Each time it has occurred, the battery has run dead, and I inadvertently held the power button down to power it back up again. The boot process gets interrupted though, as the phone is low on power, and seems to go into a reboot loop. If I plug it back into power, and boot it up, it starts up like a new phone, except I get about 10 messages about applications crashing.

So far, the fix seems to be to do a factory reset in CWM3.

I've made some tweaks that I hope will alleviate this problem (I have no way to test it as I can't replicate the problem). Still working on the next version, should be done reasonably soon. After some beta testing I'll post it up.

when attempting to connect to an encrypted network it just doesnt go threw. i did not restore any system settings and made sure my phone was wiped before i even started the rooting flashing process...

i am not terribly sure where to begin with the troubleshooting on this since i cant get to another network i use to see if i can connect till monday

What type of network? WPA? WPA2?

Keep up the great work man. Glad I was able to provide help with the phone rotation lag fix. Can't wait for 1.3

Also got a question: is the creator of this rom no longer working on it? If he is is he working with you or is he doing a diferent version than you are?

Ahmgsk was on vacation until recently, and when he came back he said he was working on updating the AMLauncher. I haven't heard from him since. Once he starts putting out updates again, I'll step aside and offer help if needed.

The original comes from xda-dev forums, a user called Ahmgsk created TrulyEpic but then went on holiday and still wont be back until mid-Feb.

Here's the original thread on xda.

Our man ragnarokx pulled that effort over here, called it the "AC Edition" (Android Central) and commenced to polish what was started at xda, giving proper credit to all the contributors along the way in the OP.

love this rom

Hi everyone, I'm still a noob but getting it slowly and just wanted to thank everyone involved for the hard work. This rom is awesome and after getting the gps working this phone kicks ass. I do have a question though, sdxappremoval won't flash from clockwork and if I use Titaniumbackup instead is it possible to remove sprint hotspot and the navigation app? I looked for the files for those apps but don't see it. I use google maps for navi and the wireless tethering app for free so don't need the other two :) Thanks again!

edit- nvm on the navigation I thought maps did directions while driving but doesn't seem like it does so I won't be needing to get rid of it.

Step back a second, SDX is a .apk install, you should install through TW My Files or via ASTRO File Manager, or even DropBox if you're super hip and into the cloud. CWM is for .zip stuff: roms, mods/patches, and usually not applications.

You need to make sure 'Unknown Sources' is enabled in Settings > Applications beforehand though, or you will have trouble.

Then try doing your business.

Alternatively, Launcher Pro has a super handy (and easy) "hide apps" that I use instead of messing with SDX, you may feel the same way when you get SDX installed and see the UI for yourself.

oh, I was going by what was stated on the first page where it says add-on downloads. I'll just use Titaniumbackup instead as I have already used that to erase AMlauncher as I use ADWlauncher right now but might have to try launcherpro at some point.

Uh, yeah it does. Google Navigation comes with Maps and works just as well as the carrier stuff does. Plus its free vs. $10/mo for the service. To get rid of any bloat you don't want just make it invisible to the system. Download a paid app called root explorer from themarket for $1 and then go into you system/apps folder and find whatever you don't want. Long press the app in question and then choose to rename it. If it says it can't rename it, hit the mount rw/ro button in the top right corner and try again. Rename the .apk extension to .bak and it will no longer show up in your app drawer or use any system resources.

As far as this rom, I finally got everything working 100% and I love it. Looks great, lots of options to restore if I so choose and FAST. Also running my Epic on the Boost Mobile network instead of Sprint and I have no errors or anything to report that I haven't seen on here already.

Speaking of Free, don't use Root Explorer, use SDX Stock App Remover because it's free and it's actually made for this purpose, even if it's difficult to use.

SDX is much easier to use once you've found a list of the App Names vs .apk files in /system/app, such as the partial list located in this tread. Or the better list I made myself for you in this thread right here.

As far as freed resources, that's debatable, I was never short on resources even before rooting out the stock Sprint/TW junk, this is truly a cavernous beast we carry.

I've got no mobileap.apk in my list, and thus I'm happily hiding the Sprint Mobile Hotspot app using LauncherPro.

Thanks for the Rom, this is the first time I have ever modified a phone outside of what was allowed by the carrier, very easy instructions and everything has worked well. You do an amazing job answering everyone's questions so quickly ragnarokx. One question that I have is can I use ROM manager with this? I try and click anything in there and it gives me an error saying that an error occurred while downloading your recovery, do you know what this could mean, I should have everything installed as I have DK28, CWM V3, and Truly Epic Rom Rebirth v 1.2. I must be doing something wrong, I am just trying to simplify things by using an app.

Our current version of ClockworkMod Recovery, v3.0.0.X, was ported by Dameon87 at XDA. ROM Manager does not like that version and will give errors - most likely we will need an official release of ClockworkMod3 from Koush before ROM Manager is compatible with it. Just use ClockworkMod directly - it's actually more simple that way, one less app on your system ;)

It's certainly not a built-in Android feature, nor is it in the feature list of this ROM, if that's a feature you want there are apps on the market.

Is there bees in this rom if so how do I a) get rid of them b) get the honey?

thanks for the info. FYI... You are awesome and I appreciate your work here. One last question, your Rom/Kernel Version says TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 is that what we are looking forward to in the near future? :)
