[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EC05 w/Optional EXT4

One more question please. Once I'm done with this, and just to confirm, I'll still have root access and EXT with EC05 running on it, right? Will I then be able to flash a different ROM and keep bluetooth functionality? I may want to try Bonsai or ACE.
Yes after you Odin back to EB13 then do your upgrade to EC05 then you can select which path of root you want to take. Overall from start to finish you can probably do it in about 30 minutes or less if you have your stuff all downloaded and in line ready to go.

RFS/CWM 2.5.1.0 or EXT4/CWM 3.0.0.6

Just wanted to throw my experience into the ring...

Started with stock EC05 rooted using procedure 1 (kept RFS) - a few weeks ago. Got ext4 on my tab so wanted to share the love with my epic. Ran through procedure 2 and all went as planned except for some reason while running run.bat, the command window wasn't updating the progress, so I ctrl-break, then said 'n' to stop batch procedure... that seemed to get it going again somehow. From there is was smooth sailing until after I completed root and ext4 conversion, I loaded the SyndicateRom Frozen 1.1.0. Then I got the boot-vibrate only loop. As suggested, I just rebooted into recovery again and reloaded the ROM, and voila!! I'm good to go! Awesome work!!!

See procedure #1 in this thread, OP. That is for basic root with ClockWorkMod installed. Good for removing bloatware, using wireless tethering, backup programs..

See procedure #2 in this thread if you want to run custom ROMs. (You can skip over procedure #1 if this is your choice)

Thanks Paul. When EC05 first released the root process was confusing and I ended up bricking my phone. Finally built the courage to root again. Alot easier this time around.

I just finished rooting and installing CWM 3 and rebooted the phone but it is stuck at the SAMSUNG boot screen.

EDIT:
Flashed Syndicate ROM. Phones keeps rebooting. What should I do?

UPDATE:
After an hour of frustration I finally got this thing working properly. So far I'm loving Syndicate ROM.

You may have done what I did the first time around...as I understand it, Clockwork 3+ expects an ext3/ext4 file system. The stock ROM doesn't do this so, the next step is to flash an ext3/ext4 ROM (I happend to use Syndicate Frozen).

As previously noted, Odin will fix the problem.

I have tried Odin, and it gets to the loading bar but it stops half way through. Any other ideas?

If your having troubles with Odin.

- Pull your battery out of your device and leave it out.

- Plug in your device via USB cable (still leaving your battery out) and boot into download mode

- Run Odin package.

Other things to try in addition...

- Remove your sdcard for the procedure
- Turn off all anti virus programs
- Try different ports/cables

Sounds like you were doing the Rooting process for Froyo EB13, if you were ending up with CWM 3.0.0.5. Did you flash the kernel as stated in the process?

Otherwise, please let us know what procedure and process you used to obtain root/CWM 3.0.0.5/EXT4.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all the information on this thread.

I've run into an issue. I am running stock EC05 and only wanted to root.

I followed procedure 1 and it seemed to work fine. I installed Titanium Backup and it was granted Superuser access.

I then shut down my phone and booted into CWM to create a backup.

I am now stuck on CWM. It loaded fine but when I hit the Home key the screen just goes black. If I hit Home or Back it goes back to CWM. Same with the reboot option, and it boots automatically into CWM when removing/replacing the battery.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Use the Volume Up/Down to navigate the options

Use the Camera button to Select the options.

Home key is only used in stock recovery mode not CWM. ;)

Ugh I'm such a newbie... I guess it doesn't help that CWM on my gTablet uses the Home button to select.

Backup is now running. Thank you for the prompt response!

Simple solution, have a good one.

Thank you to everyone who helped me out in this thread. My phone is now fixed. Turns out the .tar / PDA file that I was using in Odin was corrupt and wouldnt work fully.

I used a different version which seemed to work fine, then it upgraded once I turned my phone on.

Everyone who helped me out will be receiving thanks :P

Thanks again everyone!

How do I "delete" some of my "backup/restore" points in CWM3 ? I've been trying a few different ROMs/Themes and have several "restore" options now ( some on the same day even ), but I want to delete those and just keep my "original" restore points and then just reflash the ROM/themes I really liked

Installation aborted??

when i try to update zip from sd it finds it, opens it, then it says installing update and then installation aborted. Ive tried 3 diffrent times and that keeps happening any help??

Can I ask what you are attempting to do first?

Update manually to Froyo EC05?

Please provide a bit more information and we can help you out..

Hello again,

I have, what I think is, a quick question.

I just wanted to confirm that I can use the OneClickRootCWM3-EB13.zip to convert to EXT4 and flash a compatible ROM even if I'm already rooted and running CWM 2.5.1.0 on stock EC05 or if I needed to Odin back to stock first.

As usual, thank you.
