Rumor authorized Verizon retailors to get bionic 08/12

exactly and I totally agree. Thats why I don't think it will see that early of a release.

Concur. The silence has me quite worried.

What doesn't make sense is that the initial steps (sign up page, allegations of testing) were all timed for an early August release, but those have lead to nothing so far. There's just a fundamental disconnect between the initial timing of those things and anything after it. It's as if it was on schedule for early August and suddenly something happened... :(

I try to think about the Droid X2 and Droid 3 which had relatively short time between announce/release. Maybe this is Verizon's doing. (but even then there were a ton of leaks for both devices). Certainly we're in a weird limbo situation.

I guess like Ship says, we'll wait and see.

Was it this post that talks about the final testing that will determine an August or September release. Now if we only knew what this test was testing.... Our patience?! haha :D

I look at the big picture and with what little is leaked how can you claim it has no more weight? It has lte, a different processor that is about all we know from leaks and may have a larger screen. Also without any hands on you can't claim anything. Just like your blur sucks before you ever tried it. I think everyone just needs to wait and see. Clearly you are going with the gs2 and you dont know how verizon will mess with that and how the two will compare. Not to mention Verizon tends to go on their own schedule not really worrying about the other carriers.
ship you are not being realistic here. The Bionic is akin to Sprints Photon. Neither one is "better" than the other. They are both great phones. One doesn't warrant any special attention over the other. Do you know how ridiculous that would be? It makes no sense. Unless the Bionic is a complete departure from the Photon I could see your point but it's not.

Secondly I like the new Blur. I think it runs fantastic on the Droid 3. Gingerbread just may have solved the lagginess issue I had with it. It has it's issues with speed at times but the new Blur is a HUGE improvement.

Yeah trying to nail these things down is a practice in futility :)

You just kind of have to go with the flow. Wait for the pics from the testers then you will know it's getting close. Those guys are really savy with these things. I've NEVER seen pics leaked from testers followed by weeks of waiting. But who knows, we'll see

I agree. And I understand lack of information builds suspense, ship, and they could be doing that, but I'm a creature of habit. Moto doesn't keep things suspenseful. They've already made two 4G dual core phones (Atrix and Photon) and they've all been announced about a month/month and a half before release, so the Bionic is nothing special worth hiding. I know the Bionic is under the 4G LTE and that makes it different in a way, but still it will advertise as Verizon's 4G dual core phone (like Photon and Atrix is for Sprint and AT&T, respectively). It's not a mystery, it's not gonna be the best it's just going to be apart of the trio it seems, it might be better than the two predecessors (like the Photon is to the Atrix) but nothing that requires mass silence and secrecy.

THIS. All the hype around the Bionic has grown so much that everybody who has interest in Bionic has made it out to be the "God" phone, ( Story made short, me and a friend were talking about the Bionic, that if the iPhone is what Jesus uses, then the Droid Bionic is what God uses.) My guess is Verizon and Motorola have a plan to make it seem that the Bionic is the best of the trio, using all the hype and suspense to make it out to be the best of the best

1 of my contacts and friend sent me this in regards to the August 4th release:

I'm not holding my breath on that date but we shall see. We've taken down all of our Droid Charge posters to make room for the Bionic I'm sure. The release date must be on the horizon. It'll be interesting to see considering the next iPhone is slated around the same time. I'm assuming they'll want to space out the launch of their products.

The thing is I don't see this delay being any type of elaborate marketing campaign. I agree that sometimes there are controlled releases, but the Bionic has lost any momentum it had a few months ago. All the buzz was killed the exact minute the specs and videos of the GSII were released. Now the Bionic is just the destined to be the 1st of many dual core phones going to VZW over the next few years. No one outside of us blog/forum nerds even know this thing is coming out. With that said, I don't believe there will be a huge hoopla regarding the release of this phone. We will see some commercials and just like everyother phone but VZW won't be making this look like a game changer.....

I have to disagree....the Bionic definitely hasn't lost its momentum. Last time I checked there still isn't a dual core LTE device on the market. The SGS2 hardly hurt this phone. There is literally no evidence that the function will even be an LTE phone when it lands and with Sammys lawsuits with apple.....I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting on its arrival. If anything, samsung missed their chance at killing the bionic, after all the SGS2 has been out for months.

yeah Ive heard that the iphone 5 will come with the anti-reception killing case already preinstalled. That would be a major win for the apple sheep!!!

Not implying that the VZW GSII will kill the Bionic. But the Bionic has lost its momentum with the media. Will it be a successful phone? It sure will, but it would have done much better if the delays and cancellations wouldn't have happened. While 4G is important to some there are many out there that would take a GSII that operates seemsly if the Bionic has any flaws out of the gate. VZW has always been the best at rural coverage and the rural areas aren't getting 4G super fast.

If the 2 are released in the same timeframe that is a given and many who might have bought the Bionic a month prior may reconsider. I have a few friends that were excited about the Bionic when it was announced at CES, but have since made the decision to switch over to the iphone as it wasn't avaiable when they had their new every two this month. They said heck if we have to wait for this we might as well wait an extra month for the iphone.

allow me to jump in off-topic real quickly, and then you can get back to your regularly scheduled discussion. since us mods are tired of closing viable discussion threads because of a few bad apples, in the future, we will be using a new forum tool to ban users from specific threads if those users cant stay on topic. this allows us to keep the threads open while keeping the issues away.

ship and c.k.: if we have to keep mediating childish bickering between you two, you guys will get to help us test our new toy. i said it in the thread we locked last night, and ill say it again: let keep these discussions on point, and not let things get heated. there is absolutely no reason for it.

sorry to jump in here; lets get back to it

True. Personally, if it doesn't arrive in early August, I'm just going to wait for other dual core 4g phones to come out. That way I can weigh my options before I make any decisions--hell, I may just wait for 2nd generation lte phones (yes, I know this will be a while). Since I've waited this long, I can afford to wait a little longer and see what the competition offers.

Any way, I'm not sure what to make of the 8/12 date. I remember 0mie posting on HoFo that it would release August 18th. Since he was correct about the Droid 3 launch date, I have a feeling he'll be right about this one.

Exactly, not all customers are like us and have the foresight to know what phone to buy and when. They will pick the shinny flashy phone with all the marketing behind it. I just doubt a ton of marketing wil go behind this release.

As much as I hate to admit it, I don't see a lot of marketing behind this phone either. Verizon will most likely market the iphone to compete with the simultaneous release on AT&T. Even the TB's release was focused mainly on the 4g network in consumer terms (download a full music album in a minute).

Exactly, how much marketing have they put into the 2 other Dual Core phones (X2 & D3)? Other than a billboard or random commercial not to much. In San Diego all the marketing is focused on 4G, all city buses have the 4G plastered all over it. Dual Core and 4G is just a step in the evolution. If Dual Core was that large to them they would have been all over the marketing on those phones.

:DALL, the Bionic will be here no later than Aug 11th. Waaaaaaay to many signs show aug 4th release. The i*hone 5 will be out in september and Motorola knows it will be stupid to delay for a sept launch. Plus, the FCC had an Aug 4th exp date for the Bionic. So everything is going to be ok..... Now just waiting for DroidLanding's Tweets!!
