S20 Ultra - Autofocus is a mess after latest update!

I think the issue is the expectations because the Pixel cameras do a better job with eliminating motion blur in auto. To get that in Samsung you need to bump up the shutter speed and ISO in Pro mode.
Why don't they just do in auto mode and call it a day ?

It's a trade off. Increase ISO and increase the shutter speed, but greatly increase noise. Decrease ISO and decrease shutter speed, and get motion blur. In auto mode, you have to hope that the programmer that made the app would make the same choices you would.

Good point , guess that's where Google AI shines

I never played with a Pixel but I think like iPhone... Shines for "wider" range of photos. Imo that's what a mobile camera should do while improving its quality. Samsung may have missed the mark with the Ultra.

Shines for certain types of photos.

How about with s20+ you think they missed the mark ?

Sorry but a single Auto setting has its limitations and cannot shine for a wide range of photos. That's why dedicated cameras have multiple auto settings and scene modes for multiple applications.

Good point, that's why they offer manual mode

I personally think pixel gets overrated big time. It’s obviously great but the gap from other phones to me is far smaller than people think

None of the Samsungs do well avoiding motion blur with indoor low light photos. People that complain about Samsung are usually concerned about movement from small children and pets. One way to achieve better success is to turn on Motion photos and pick which one you want from the burst shot which starts taking pictures before you press the shutter. It's either that or go manual.

That's because OEMs have caught up to Pixel and Google is now slow in bringing up the camera hardware.

To be honest you know between the phones I have the cameras looks good on all them , yeah some might do little better in different situations but its not mind blowing like stand alone camera , but we come long ways from what phone cameras where. But I still think most situations the pixel is go to in auto mode.

That used to be the case but don't rule out iPhones automode.

Not at all. Honestly if you look at the reviews where the 20+ was used in comparison with the Ultra (and I think along with the iPhone 11 Pro), the 20+ showed that it held it's own often in comparos and even did better where the Ultra really didn't, it shows you could argue the 20+ camera was just as good as an all-around camera as the Ultra. The Ultra of course has the newest 108mp sensor so it's pluses are noticeable pluses especially in detail because of that larger sensor and it was good with zoom up to 30x digital. So for $200 less... it definitely didn't miss the mark. For $200 below that because they started discounting the S20/S20+ you can hear the comments if not directly, implying the 20+ was the better buy.

I am now putting my hopes that the Note 20+ will end up being what the Ultra should have... most likely at same price.. + S-Pen!

Cool, just wanted know input on the s20+ with you guys , good point!

The gap imo is everything else besides the camera. They hit a home run with the camera and being known to have the best camera as far as software. Without it, the way they do the rest of the hardware, it wouldn't be considered more than a mid range phone with best OS with stock Android. But even now that isn't really an advantage anymore either with OnePlus getting more raves for their OS and others like OneUI really performing well.
