So the rumor on the Note 20 is laser autofocus to fix the autofocus issue on the S20 Ultra... I know this is more of a Note thing but wondering opinions on use of laser autofocus... using laser a good idea and should they have used it on the Ultra?? I wonder if they will use it in the S21 Ultra when they go 150mp sensor.

From what I've been searching they seemed to be the first to introduce it back in 2014/2015. But I really haven't heard if it's used much and how good is it. Seems to be fast and accurate but not as much at long distance. But just doing a little searching, I see that Google used laser autofocus along with Phase detection with their Pixels. Don't know if they still do.

Sammobile article on Note 20 a month ago seem to hint Samsung would remove Time of Flight sensor on Note 20 so this seemed to be in the works for a while.

Max W reckons there will be some other changes on the camera so not might not be the same in terms of quality

Looking forward to it I must say.

I got the latest update yesterday, not given it a thorough testing but with some pics of the kids and cats yesterday the AF does feel a little better, the image quality though is still not great.

For those hoping for improvements with the Note 20 I am not so hopeful. Yes the AF will be improved, that has to be a given but the rest of the challanges (handling of movement, smoothing etc) are long-term Samsung software choices. AF aside the camera hardware on the S20U is I think pretty impressive, my beef with them is all software.

How do i trigger the new close up zoom notification?
in the 108mp 3:4 or regular 3:4 aspect ratio, get really close to an object until it starts to blur, usually around 2 inches or closer from the object. you'll get a little notification on the bottom left of your screen that says use closeup zoom, tap it and it will zoom in and you back up a bit and it will quickly focus on the object.

Can't get it to trigger for me and I'm holding the item as close as physically possible.

I just tested and it is not working for me either. Tried clearing the cache too.

Wasn't working for me until I cleared the cache on the camera app there after you mentioned it and working now. Actually really impressed with it tbf
