S3 Backup in Anticipation for 4.3 Update

This is probably a bad question but is there a way to back up the configuration of my phone? I'm talking the set up with folders and layout, etc.

Just wondering due to the fact that with most OTA updates a factory reset might need to be done. I hate going back through and redoing all the settings, apps ,etc.

Oh I must also mention that I am not rooted.

Actually, most OTAs do NOT require a factory reset. Occasionally, a phone will become slow or unstable after an OTA, and a factory reset is then recommended.

Anyway, if you're not rooted the best bet for a complete update is probably Helium Backup: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../search?q=helium+backup&c=apps&token=zYwyNzdZ

You could also use Kies to backup much of the data on your phone, but not application settings and data.

+1 to Helium Backup. I've used it several times with several devices and found it to work wonderfully. Backs up the app data which is key to me. Does require working with a PC to do that.

Thanks guys.....I don't know that I am really that worried about app "data" I just hate redoing all my screens, folders, etc.

I use My Backup PRO. It will save the app of all of your apps to your SD card if you have mounted. It will also save data to SD card. After update, install My Backup PRO and recover the data for your phone.

Do you know if it will save your desktop screens and all the widgets so you don't have to reorganize your screens again? When I was rooted with CMW that wasn't a problem because it made a complete image to restore.

It would be nice if My Backup Pro could do the same thing for an un-rooted phone.

If you are not rooted then your best option to restore your home screens and widgets is to use an alternative launcher that allows you to backup / restore your settings. Most of the popular launchers allow for this such as Apex, Holo HD, Nova, etc.. If you want to backup / restore your apps and/or app data, then use Helium as others have suggested.
