SIM@ Unavailable is the only message that I get

Presently I am using only 1 SIM in my Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML. My SIM2 slot shows unavailable. Do we have to put SIM in Slot 1 first and then only SIM2 is available? My phone model number: ASUS_Z400AD Software version WW_2.20.40.168_20160202
Android version 5.0 with Android security patch January 1, 2016.
Plz let me know whether this is a software issue or a hardware problem, I have changed the sim card reader also then also this issue persists.

Welcome to Android Central! You shouldn't have to put a SIM in both slots. Are you sure that SIM works? Can you try it in another phone? Otherwise, ask your carrier for a replacement SIM.

Hey to check if there is an issue with the SIM slot try running SMMI test :

How to Enter SMMI_TEST (test hardware)

Go to Calculator=>type " .12345+= "
you will be entered to SMMI_TEST

For software issue try factory resetting your device also check the same under safe mode.
