Slow EVO 3G speeds

i get screen caps by running dalvik debug monitor.

Cool...looks like something else to download...I'm seriously happy with my Evo here at home. I download songs in about a minute. Granted it's not as fast as my cable internet if I plug into a wall instead of going wireless, but for a phone, it's fine with me. My 4G is a little faster, but eats the battery so I don't mess with it. I just got 1.12Mbps and .73Mbps

How do you screen capture? My download was 861kbps and upload was 590kbps on Speed Test. that was from a server in Wichita, KS and I live in CO. 997 dl, and 640 ul when I chose the server in Durango, CO and 1092 dl, and 570 ul when using Colorado Springs, CO server

any mods? what pri/nv/radio?

my evo pulls in 130kbps(inconsistently-sometimes its faster, sometimes slower), while these verizon/at&t android devices: droid2 global, droid2 r2-d2, droid x, aria, etc. are doing 1000-1200kbps. ill get screens tomorrow if i must. what do you call that?? i call it 10x the down speed of my sprints 3G. its not my device, its the network. how? all my friends with sprint android devices experience the same thing. im a tech nerd and place accurate blame where it needs to be. perhaps its only in my area. perhaps it isnt. I hate verizon's policies and customer service(was with vzw for 10+years), I hate gsm networks. so naturally i went with sprint. they have the best plan in wireless atm but the speeds arent worth my time. the network is useless to me unless its fast, reliable and on when i need it.

See thats more like it. Real world info and not just saying it sucks. Thank you.
hahhahah I have no problem with someone placing blame where it belongs but with out info to back it up to me it sounds like BS. Now that you have provided more info we see its a network problem. That or someone at sprint knows you and your friend and doesnt like you. :)

Luckily there have been several replies with speeds 10x faster then yours on the same network just in different locations. The good news is your a tech nerd so you can assist Sprint with identifying the problem and getting it fixed so the non tech nerds in your area will be able to love sprint again.

So getting back to the original posting, glad to see things are working well for you.

sprint has so much info from me...they finally said they fixed the nationwide sms issue today at 15.00h.

but the 3g speeds still stink i.e. slow. nobody seems to have any idea when 4g will be deployed in my area...its in boston, which does me no good.

so at this point i am waiting. i was told i have to wait and there is no time frame when a resolution will be reached.

i may be rocking a droid x tomorrow or a thunderbolt on thursday. only reason thinking droid x is that i cant downsize my screen after having the evo and the missing 4g on the x wouldnt hurt too badly as i dont have 4g service now.

i just need mobile speeds that are fast, and more importantly consistent.

Have the same issue. But just coming off a Pre that had the same problem, I'm convinced this is a Sprint issue.

For Pete sake, i live in NYC. Why cant I get higher than 100kb/s on my 3G radio?

Someone mentioned a diagnostic. Would radio shack do that or a authorized sprint store?

Hmmm,
While I was tethering, these were my results....

My 3G speed at Full bars:

My 4G speed at 1 bar (Bad signal at home)

Really Bad 3G speed compared to my friend's EVO...
His Evo is going 1.23mbps on 3G while I was barely at .10
Disappointing.... I beleive its a device problem since were doing
the test at the same time, same location etc.

Later on, I might do the 3G hack to improve my performance :P

1. Get your MSL, There are many ways, call Sprint, Download the app MSL Reader from the market, CDMA workshop
2. After you have your MSL go to your phone and type ##3282#
3. Click Edit Mode
4. Click Advanced
5. Scroll down to HTTP PD Proxy Port & HTTP PD Proxy Address
6. Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to 0 (zero)
7. Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
8. Go enjoy Downloads and a .20-.60 mbps increase in 3G speeds!

You may need to call sprint to get your MSL, as you're not rooted.

Notice how high your ping time is.
Try the info towards the top in post number 6.
Same problems i had and most of the time that fixed it.

Should this cause an issue, how is this reversed ?

This sounds like the same issue as with my wife's EVO. Her DL speeds would never go above .13, while mine were always over 1. Sprint said it was a bad device, and replaced it. They said that was the only fix... in our case anyways. I would say, try the MSL fix first, and if that doesn't work... it's probably a bad device.

My data speeds have been consistently embarrassing....
At home I have never registered higher than 13kbps up and 4kbps down...
At work this morning I just ran same test(speedtest.net app) and came up with 3kbps up and -0kbps down... No joke!
Always have full signal strength at home and at work.
My EVO is fully stock, never rooted and very few apps.

Gonna try igotsanevo4g 's advice later today to see if that helps at all but I'm not holding hope.

Thanks for the suggestion igots.... didn't work for me though :(
Guess I'm off to the Sprint store to get it replaced.

I tried this a few days ago and i have not noticed an improvement yet.
My guess is my problem is network related.
I live near a Sprint Tower so my home speed tests always seem to get a similar result. Suck at night but early AM great. Same tower with way different results.
So its either a problem with their switching or its over loaded at night.
Great example, long ping times and super slow connection last night. Tested at 7pm, 10pm and 1130pm. All 3 were dismal.
Tested this morning at 7am with slow ping time and near 1meg down.

I am going to go back and forth with the HTTP mod and see how well it helps when the speeds are good for me. So not at night. LOL

Unfortunately these changes won't improve the speed of anything. (IMO)

I've tried almost every modifications - and all seem to have no visible changes whatsoever.

I really think that the problem is caused by the lack of data connection. I don't even worry about these minor issues anymore - just as long as it works.

PS. If you have done any changes in your (data settings) ##3282#... and would like to revert all settings to their default settings - tap the link in my signature and follow a post I have about doing so.
