So I tried to return my Nexus.

No entitlement here buddy.

Let me get this straight.

1) Verizon has a policy that says, 'We don't accept returned phones in-store that were purchased online."

2) Lodingi goes into VZW store and says all nice and sweet, "I purchased this phone online and would like to return it here pretty please."

3) Store employee enforces said policy by saying, "I'm sorry but it's against our policy to accept phones in-store that were purchased online."

4) Lodingi apparently finds this unacceptable. Goes home and complains about it on the interwebz.

Please explain what this is if not a sense of entitlement, buddy?

That's like being pulled over for speeding and being pissed at the cop for writing you a ticket. Screw him for enforcing policy! He could have let me go!

completely irreverent. Verizon has waived their policies for me 9 times out of 10.

Your response couldn't make it more relevant if I wrote it for you. VZW store cut you a break once or twice (I'm assuming ten times is an exaggeration) and now you EXPECT them to do it for you every time going forward.

What would you call that?

Lol. I think you're making more of my comments than I. I posted my story & asked for input. Got plenty of responses, which in turn started a polite debate. As to be expected (I guess), it starts to get ugly & takes a turn for the worse. Oh well.

No biggie. Found a FedEx facility about 15 miles from home. Gonna drop off my package today. My biggest concern was making sure I wouldn't get penalized for a late return. It seems like I won't, so I'm fine with it.

Well I'm off to speed my way to FedEx. I have my "Get Out of Jail Free" card so I doubt I'll get a summons. ;) ;)

You know you don't have to go to the FedEx store. There are many ways to get the proper return label (in fact my online bought Dinc 2 came with the return label in the box). You need to pack it all up proper and if you use the proper return label your return will get processed a lot smoother. All USPS offices have a FedEx dropoff and you could also call them for a pickup. You certainly made this hard on yourself.

As long as the service has been cancelled by the 15th, and I stick the phone in the fedex-box, will Verizon include that as a "return by the 15th"?

I would call and check on that. I think you had until the 15th under the extended Holiday returns to return/exchange the phone, but cancelling the contract has a different deadline.

Actually I learned by this thread that you can't return to store what you bought online. That's interesting because not only is it the same company but most every online company allows return to store.

bestbuy, radio shack, target, walmart, every clothing department store, home depot, lowes, i mean literally hundreds of stores. And probably, sprint, tmobile and at&t allow it, no?

Saved a trip for some

Protip: keep the condescending patronization (e.g. buddy) of of the discussion and perhaps it won't turn ugly. ;)

In some twisted way, Verizon brought this on themselves for inconsistent enforcement of their own policy. If every store had a unified front, we'd accept this policy without question.

Was my original thought. I'm still amazed by it, but whatever. This lesson is certainly going to factor in my next phone purchasing decision.

Fair enough. Point taken.

Not in all cases.

My former carrier, T-Mobile, was very stringent on their return/exchange policy. I purchased a Vibrant at a store in VA while visiting family, and a few days later the volume rocker went bad. A store in NJ wouldn't do an exchange for me. I either had to go back to that specific VA store to swap it out/return it, or go online and get a "like-new" device shipped to me via warranty exchange. Unfortunately since I did not want to drive out to VA just to make the exchange, I ended up getting a refurbed device to replace my defective one. I would have preferred a brand new, never opened one since mine was just 5 days old at that point, but the refurbed on ended up being fine.

Compare that to my experience with Verizon: as a new customer, ordered the Nexus online from Verizon.com the night it was available. Got it the next day. Noticed I had the loud rear speaker pops/clicks. Lived with it for a few days but decided it was worth exchanging out. Went to a corporate store that I had never been in before, politely explained my issue. They took my phone number and said, no problem. Was out in 10 minutes with a brand new in-box Nexus with no issues.

When I had my bb (lol, SwiftKey auto correct wanted to make that bs... How appropriate is that?) Storm, at the time when I was having an assortment of problems, tech support made a note on my account so that I could exchange the phone at my local VZW store. I had purchased the phone online.

Not a bad thing for them in the long run. I established a relationship with the staff at that store and have now made the majority of my purchases there.

I don't have 3G here (and it would have been far more than a 2 hour drive, each direction, to get into one), so I just bought one on eBay for about $400 (including overnight shipping). T-Mobile told me I could stop by and "look" at their display models and ask as many questions as I wanted. No thanks.

Has anyone else picked up a G1? If so, where and how much? Are you using it yet? I can't wait for mine to arrive :)

I think a lot of it has to do with your attitude as a customer. The golden rule never hurts. They are more likely to help as much as they can if you are being nice to them.

I think it also has to do with what the rep knows and doesn't. people would try to tell me left and right if you upgrade you have to pick a Verizon plan, if you go to 4g you have to go on a Verizon plan etc.

I too just asked to keep my plan and they kept it alltel

If your just talking about returning the phone by the 15th to meet the holiday extension and placing it in a fedex box on the 15th.... then yes they will allow it. They have to because of something called "postmarked by" we forget a lot of the old things in life, because of the new way of life..... electronics.

it doesn't matter if it was bought online or in the store, you can still return it in the store.

i've noticed the quality of cust serv (and "policy") varies greatly from one vzw store to another. if possible, just try a different store.

Your wrong. Simply all returns for devices purchased online are to be returned via label that came with the box. However, if you call and get transfered to internet sales they can process the return and even do the worry free guarentee and have the new device sent out before even having to send back the current device as long as the order is placed before the 14 day WFG period and/or extended holiday return date. Give them a call and let them know you will be returning the device and sending off and they will make sure that you are not charged for the ETF. Like i said do the WFG over the phone and you can order your new phone and return this one in one transaction.

I was able to find my return label. I packed the Nexus, drove to a corporate FedEx facility & sent it away. I asked for a receipt (precaution) and that's that. Now it's time to figure out what device to get & from whom to purchase. I know it won't be an online purchase.

I would sit tight and see what happens with the update to the nexus. Then if things get corrected, rebuy from amazon wireless at a lower price.

i had the same problem with our local corporate store i filed a Better Business complaint i did get a call from verizon in pa but they couldnt make any commitments i told BBB that they are trying to drag it out past jan 15 so im locked in my initial phone was bad and the second locked up on the firmware update 4.0.2 make sure you file a complaint so they dont try to screw others over verizon has to reply to BBB acording to BBB's email
