Keith if you don't get your update do the manual update. You'll be fine. I too an a noob and took a chance. It works fine.

I guess I am not surprised that I still don't have the update.
Waiting to update from EB13... It is just after 7:00 AM in north central Florida on March 25th.

No... I will take my phone to the sprint store for the update. Was told by sprint that they won't provide support for a phone updated in any manner other than the official sprint ota.

Knowing sprints reputation, I imagine only bits and pieces of the above statement is correct.

Was also told that the EB13 update provided by samsung would not be supported and is possibly the reason the EB13 guys aren't getting the push.

Like they are providing support now? Your better off doing it yourself then letting one of the monkeys that work for Sprint mess with it IMO. Won't be providing support for EB13? EB13 went through Sprint and they are the ones who sent it out OTA so they can't act like users found a leaked version like with the original leaked Froyo.

All you people with EB13 need to muster up some courage and do the manual update yourselves! Its explained and detailed exceptionally well and quite frankly, easy to do!

The update provided ota by sprint yes it's supported. If you got the update through samsung you may need to contact samsung for support.

As of now I am ok what I have. It does everything I want it to. Besides there may be an advantage being last. I watch and see what kind of issues y'all have.

So far it seems as if it is much better than EB13.

DO NOT UPDATE! EC05 is still a buggy version of Froyo. My text messages were stuck at "sending" for 6 hours. I didn't even realize it until I called someone to ask why they had been ignoring me. What I had to do was restart my phone. I did this 3x in the course of one day! I noticed this after clearing my phone's RAM when did anyone else experience this? Had to flash back to DI18 however I'm still prompted to update to EC05. Samsung Epic Fail.

Just got it OTA in my stock, un-rooted, DI18 (in Chicago, if that matters.) It's trickling out - don't despair. Process was quick and smooth. It does feel slightly more responsive so far.
I agree that the messaging app interface is a little too cartoony but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
I also seem to have gained about 2 mb of much needed internal memory. Time to start moving stuff to the SD card (finally.)

My gf's epic is still on DI18 and for some reason it refuses to connect to 3g after receiving the sprint notification about Sprint ID...

EDIT: Got it without my knowledge over the night

Shock... awe.... it came! Christmas in March...

:D So I got my OTA EC05 last night... played with it for half an hour so far - a couple of things I noticed:

stock email - won't delete email when I select "delete"... though I found I can "move to" trash and then delete it. Odd....

screen rotation - seems a little slower... but working - could be my imagination!

time without signal - hey!! I've been on for 35 minutes and only have 1% cell idle - which is, to be honest, low for the reasonably lousy cell coverage I get at home! Maybe that one got fixed??

Overall - seems to be ok... phone works fine... texting works fine... I can't complain!

Manual update to EC05 hosed 3G on roaming.

Didn't want to wait for OTA. Updated from EB13 to EC05 using the Paul's manual method with Odin w/o data wipe. Everything works great EXCEPT 3G roaming on Verizon. Where I work, there is no Sprint signal but there are Verizon repeaters. Before updating to EC05, I could get data while on Verizon. After update, voice only on roaming. 3G/4G work ok on Sprint. Tried to update PRL and got an error. I'm about to toss this Epic failure.

My spouse has an Epic and people told her she should be running Android OS 2.2. I checked it for her and she is running 2.1. Does she need to talk to Sprint or are they just wrong? The two that told her this have Epics running 2.2

Thanks for any advice or input....

After this push is over she should be running 2.2.1 but not necessarily before then. You can always update her manually.

It sounds like it is going to take a couple extra days to get it pushed out.

Just check now, with still no update.. Still stuck on EB13. I guess they are not a 100% of Epic owners being pushed by March 24th. I did hear some people were having luck with getting the update if the formatted there phone first, then the update happened.

I'm on stock EB13 (manual update). Never rooted. No signs of any updates jet. Just the text messages from Sprint promoting "Sprint ID" coming soon.

Does anyone know how long I should wait before giving up?

Everything seems to be working on EB13 right now but the phone is a lot slower and have a lot more occasional force close issues than on 2.1 DI18.

I was hoping to get OTA and see if those issues (faster performance and stability) got fixed through the official OTA update to EC05.

If I don't get anything by Monday, I'll just find the update.zip file and update manually again, hopefully with better results!

I read somewhere that you won't get the update if you're on Wifi. So I turned wifi off and shortly after got the update. I didn't get the update until wee hours of 3/25, after most people seem to have received it, so getting off wifi may actually have done the trick. Or could be pure coincidence...

I did the manual upgrade (DI18 -> EC05). Thx again for another great set of instructions; the upgrade was smooth.

I have had to clear some caches and uninstall/reload an app or two, but what else is new.

I actually like the new stock email. I have multiple accounts setup, but one issue I'm experiencing with it is misassociating titles with email bodies, not many but every once in a while. I recently cleared the cache so hopefully that will resolve the issue. Anyone experience this?

-------UPDATE:

It is a noted bug but not an EC05 issue. The first post from Google Code Issue 5719 has the workaround. I've recreated the instructions specifically for the Epic below. This does require you to re-setup your email accounts...

Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications
Select the "Running" tab
Scroll down to the "Email" application. Select "Clear Data"

Recreate your accounts by starting the email application. It will run you
through the account setup or enter the settings manually.
