Hi guys:

I'm contacting you as I've migrated from a Moto E3 (which ran Android 6.0) to a Moto G5 (running Android 8.1.0). With my Moto E3 I could stop notification sounds when pressing the power button, which is specially useful when I'm at work, but I can't do that with my Moto G5. When a notification sound starts, the only way I can shut it down is by pressing the power button, unlocking the phone and sliding down the notification tab. Is there any way to stop the notification sound when pressing the power button on Android 8.1.0?

Just wondering -- how long do your notification tones last? Most standard notification tones are very short, so there'd be no need to cut it off. If you're using custom tones that are long, is there a reason why you need them long?

I agree with B. DIDDY how long is the notifications duration? Did you try the volume button if it will snooze them ?

I think the OP is asking about the DND shortcut. Instead of the power button, have you tried holding the volume down button for a second of two? This should put the phone on silent.

Ah, good point. The usual shortcut to silence the phone on more recent devices is to press Power and Vol Up together, so that's something else to try.

Yes, that's the new way. I confirmed with my wife's G5+ and the old way with only volume down still works, it doesn't in her brand new Moto G8+. :)
