So should I root v9 and then unroot to v8 and then upgrade to v9 and then vc and then use your program to root vc?

Root V9, flash V9 recovery as outlined in steps 25-29 in the unrooting guide, update to VC using the LG tool, then you can either use the VC rooting guide or the Control Center.

No point in going to V8 just to go back to V9.

Can you Help me?? See below

i ran the phone update tool and it said completed and i clicked on quit at the end. Then the phone never showed the android logo, after 5 minutes I tried rebooting manually and nothing, pulled the battery and it shows the LG logo but then a blank black screen. What did I do wrong? How do I make it install the android software and boot back up? Am I bricked?

*Edit* I just ran the update again by itself and update back to vc.. grr gonna try one more time to get to v9 but i dunno whats wrong with this stupid phone.

2ND EDIT ** If the screens goes black again after using the updater tool and does not show me "android" or boot what do I need to do to get V9 working loading?

3rd EDIT* Ok so something is wrong with this phone, Its brand new, I actually got V9 onto it but the screen does not light up completely. It reboots after the update with the lg tool. I can actually feel the phone vibrate and unlock when i swipe my finger on it but there is just no image displaying, its all black. Has anyone had this problem before? If i get to this part is it possible to follow some steps to get root and install custom roms? Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I've rooted Other phones but this one is by far the most difficult because its not responding to what everyone has in these guides.

What am I doing wrong?? Is there anyway to get VC working at this point on this 1 day old phone?

I updated the thread in my signature with a second warning.

This is a very recent (as in just reported today) development.

It appears likley Sprint is shipping Optimus S with newer display hardware. There was something in the VC release notes about supporting newer displays.

So if your recently received LS670 came with VC stock, there is a reasonable chance it has this newer display hardware. Since V9 doesn't have the drivers to control this new display, when you force flash V9, the screen is blank upon startup. The phone actually is functional, there just isn't any visual feedback. You can unlock the phone and even dial #s if you can remember what to press on the screen when there is a blank display.

You should be able to flash the stock V9 recovery even in this state, after which you can force flash back to VC and get your display working again.

Details are being worked out but I'm sure if you are enteprising you can figure it out yourself. Probably in a day or two will have instructions available.

hey its me, mr.noob, again

i try to follow step 28 on the unroot guide and and i get "cd: cant cd /sdcard/nandroid/mem=477M/BCDMRS12-20101122-1915" in the cmd prompt

UPDATE: jk i figured that out, but now theres another problem
i followed steps 1-12 on the unroot guide so i could open GNM's recovery. then i did steps 25-30. and then i updated to vc through lg updater and tried to use control center to root and it still did not work. i tried it twice, whats wrong? =[

UPDATE2: i just rooted the cmd prompt way and it worked

thank you for everything drewwalton19216801 and others!!!

ok hope i didnt miss anything obvious but i updated my optimus to vc from v9 using the lg updater tool. Then downloaded control center and placed update zip on sd card. Then tried to root using control center about 6 sixes and still do not have root! downloaded superuser to check and still no root! Any ideas? Thanks

I upgraded to VC using the LG upgrader as described. Then I rooted using LG Optimus S Control Center, but I did not see the super user. However, the LG Optimus S Control Center said I was rooted. Then I used LG Optimus S Control Center to install xirconia clockwork. It got installed, and I rebooted. Now I am stuck on LG logo screen. I can get past it. When I press volume down+home+power to boot to recovery, the screen goes blank.

Any suggestions?

If you didn't see superuser you obviously weren't rooted so why didn't you try the root process again? Also, before upgrading to VC had you previously downgraded to V9?

Had you previously downgraded to V9? And I hope you meant 6 times not 6 sixes :P

My LG is currently on VC and was updated OTA. So as per Prerequisite 4, do I need to follow all the steps listed in the below link?

4) Your Optimus S should be running the latest software version installed by the LG Mobile Update tool. The Control Center COULD work with V9, but it's not guaranteed. This also means that prior to using the Control Center, your device should be unrooted and using the stock V9 recovery kernel. If you updated the old-fashioned OTA way (didn't use the LG tool), you NEED to read THIS POST!

yes typo ment six! I was already running v9 did not have to downgrade to it! I used lg updater tool to upgrade to vc.

Yes, you do. It is currently impossible to root the OTA update using any known methods. The OTA update also blocks the exploit in the recovery kernel. When you update using the LG tool, it doesn't touch the recovery kernel.

Also: make absolutely certain that you flash the stock V9 recovery kernel, or else you'll have to start all over again.

Try the manual rooting method in this thread and let me know if that worked. I'm investigating a possible bug and you might be suffering from it. Seems to pop up at random, though this application does work for most people.

i'm an android beginner. i just switched from my iphone. from my understanding rooting is essentially the equivalent of jailbreaking. downloaded what i was told to from the original post, but it seems like i'm not doing something right.

could someone explain to me what i'm doing wrong, or point me in the direction of an idiots guide to jailbreaking...

i know a lot about electronics and computers...but for the sake of screwing something up, please assume i know absolutely nothing.

Why don't you begin by describing what is happening or post an error message. Simply saying it didn't work doesn't help.

What steps did you take?

all i did was install the control center on my laptop, and plugged in my phone. from there i can't figure out what i need to do

i'm beginning to understand my situation a little better,

my phone is brand new, i have not done anything to update it, it says it's running VC, so i'm assuming that's how i got it stock

do i need to downgrade to V9 and then us the LG updater tool to upgrade it back to VC?

I updated OTA. So, I downgraded back to V9. Then, used the updater to go back to VC. When I try to root it, using the Control Center, everything seems to go well, as far as I can tell. But, When I reboot my phone, there is no SuperUser app. But, it is on my SD card. I can install it using Astro. But, when I try to use an app, such as Wireless Tether, it says I'm not rooted. Am I missing something? I've also tried some of the other threads using the cmd and adb, but, I'm completely lost there. I can't figure out how to get any part of that adb to do anything? I need help! If you need more info, let me know, I'll give you what I can.
Thanks!
