Root V9, flash V9 recovery as outlined in steps 25-29 in the unrooting guide, update to VC using the LG tool, then you can either use the VC rooting guide or the Control Center.
No point in going to V8 just to go back to V9.
I updated the thread in my signature with a second warning.3rd EDIT* Ok so something is wrong with this phone, Its brand new, I actually got V9 onto it but the screen does not light up completely. It reboots after the update with the lg tool. I can actually feel the phone vibrate and unlock when i swipe my finger on it but there is just no image displaying, its all black. Has anyone had this problem before? If i get to this part is it possible to follow some steps to get root and install custom roms? Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I've rooted Other phones but this one is by far the most difficult because its not responding to what everyone has in these guides.
What am I doing wrong?? Is there anyway to get VC working at this point on this 1 day old phone?

I upgraded to VC using the LG upgrader as described. Then I rooted using LG Optimus S Control Center, but I did not see the super user. However, the LG Optimus S Control Center said I was rooted. Then I used LG Optimus S Control Center to install xirconia clockwork. It got installed, and I rebooted. Now I am stuck on LG logo screen. I can get past it. When I press volume down+home+power to boot to recovery, the screen goes blank.
Any suggestions?
ok hope i didnt miss anything obvious but i updated my optimus to vc from v9 using the lg updater tool. Then downloaded control center and placed update zip on sd card. Then tried to root using control center about 6 sixes and still do not have root! downloaded superuser to check and still no root! Any ideas? Thanks
My LG is currently on VC and was updated OTA. So as per Prerequisite 4, do I need to follow all the steps listed in the below link?
4) Your Optimus S should be running the latest software version installed by the LG Mobile Update tool. The Control Center COULD work with V9, but it's not guaranteed. This also means that prior to using the Control Center, your device should be unrooted and using the stock V9 recovery kernel. If you updated the old-fashioned OTA way (didn't use the LG tool), you NEED to read THIS POST!
yes typo ment six! I was already running v9 did not have to downgrade to it! I used lg updater tool to upgrade to vc.
