T-Mobile LG V10 getting Marshmallow Next Week! (Update: It's Live Now!)

Earlier I commented that my battery life sucked after the update, which was very disappointing since it was pretty darn good on 5.1.1. I figured I give it a few days before doing anything drastic, like a factory reset. It's been 4 days since I updated, and I have to say the battery life is back to where it was, maybe even a little better. After 14 hours on battery, I still show over 7 hours remaining. I haven't changed the way I use the phone nor have I changed any settings. So, I would say the update is pretty damn good. Everything is running smoothly and the fingerprint sensor is lightening fast. I usually turn my phone off at night then charge it in the morning when I wake up. I notice that when I first turn it on, I have to use the unlock pattern; the fingerprint scanner won't unlock, it goes straight to the pattern. After that, though, it's all fingerprint unlocking...and in an instant. Anyone else notice this?

So are you as happy as me switching from motto x pure to lgv10?

Re: MM downloading, Tmobile

So, what do you think about the update? Has the finger print scanner been improved? What about the Hi Fi DAC activating with third-party apps like PowerAmp, has that been fixed? Do you still have an app drawer?

My V10 will arrive in a few days. The first thing I'll do is upgrade to Marshmallow.

-What do I need to do to have the DAC work with the Poweramp? Is the app - DAC Fix for V10 still needed?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phascinate.lgv10.dacfix&hl=en

-Should I hear a difference between the V10 and a G4 when the DAC is used with a compatible music player?
I don't use FLAC, only mp3's - v0 and 320cbr encoded with LAME.

Nice, hope you enjoy your V10 when it arrives.

As far as Poweramp, the ESS DAC will work on it but only on the latest Poweramp V3 alpha builds. The app will only recognize the standard 24-bit DAC from Snapdragon though the best way to know if it's working is by tricking the phone into aux mode. As for the DAC fix, I haven't tried any other music apps though it's not needed in general anymore.

In terms of difference between the G4 and V10, the V10 has a bit more sound clarity normally though suffers from the same issue of not having enough voltage behind the headphone jack to get really loud. With the ESS DAC running in a higher gain mode, the V10 will sound much louder than the G4.

For the music files you have, Poweramp will likely upscale them to 32-bit 192khz depending on what settings you have.

Why?

There's six months of a body of knowledge on how it works on 5.1. There's not even a week yet of knowledge of how it works on 6.

Remember folks, there's absolutely no going back on an Android update.

Currently, you can't downgrade on the V10. Doesn't mean a dev won't figure it out at some point.

Some devices and versions can be rolled back. It depends on whether the anti-rollback flag was tripped during the update.

My plan is to transfer everything, as in LG backup & restore, from the G4 to V10. I assume mm to mm is best.
G4 is mm...

While I agree with you on amount of experience on 5.1, 6 runs very well, if not better than 5.1. There is no info on these forums or otherwise that proves we shouldn't update.

There's no info that proves we should update, given that the info we have is less than a week old.

What info are you waiting for? If there was a major problem with the update, earth shattering issue, we would of known it by now. I've had 6 since Monday with no issues. If you want to wait, that's fine but there is no reason for anyone to be scared to update.

ROFL, I still have not been notified of the OTA update, so I called T-Mo. They said it's a slow rollout and suggested using LG Bridge. I tried that and the app says that my phone is up to date (I checked and it's still 5.1.1). So I called LG and LG said, at first, the update is not out yet (he read from the outdated LG website). When I told him that no, it's been out for a week, the LG website is outdated, he put me on hold and when he came back he said, yes, they have escalated the problem with their announcement, but ONLY VZW has the update. Everyone else has to wait for MM. My response - CLICK :-!

Yep. Very happy. I broke down and did a factory reset, then restored through LG Bridge, and my battery life is better than ever. Had to do a little finagling to get things exactly right, but it worked out fine.

What info are you waiting for?

I'm waiting for the honeymoon to be over, and for enough people to have enough experience with it under enough circumstances to know it really doesn't have any big warts.

Many things don't show up, at least in aggregate in a forum like this, for awhile. People are generally too busy playing with their shiny new OS and being forgiving about it and assuming that any problems will go away. If there are inherent problems, it won't be until the honeymoon is long over that enough people come to the conclusion that the problems are long-term and will NOT go away.

You never notice OR comment on the warts during the honeymoon. "Oh, it'll be OK" is how people think--until they realize that no, it won't be OK. Me, I'm waiting to see how it all shakes out after that point. Thanks to this forum, I'll be able to move forward with enough information to be confident about whatever path I take--and NOT to be caught up in an upgrade that's bad for me, if that's how it shakes out.

And that means waiting. So be it.

I've learned over the years to be cautious about the latest and greatest. And in smartphones, we're still at an early enough point in the industry where it's probably better simply to buy the next phone that launched with the next version, than try to shove the next version software into older hardware that didn't launch with it.

It's unfortunate that you had bad previous experiences. I have not. While I do know that not all updates are good, most are. I believe the V10 should have came with 6.0. Now we have it and the phone runs awesome on it. This 'honeymoon' may exist but I believe if that there any major issues with this update, we would've heard about it by now. Plus, when something doesn't work right, most don't have an issue complaining about it online. I do find it sad that one must wait to update a device to make sure it won't cause problems. I don't blame the user though. I respect your decision to wait and if there is something specific you are wanting to know about, let me know and I will do my best to provide you the information.

How do you put the ESS DAC in higher gain Mode?

How do you put the ESS DAC in higher gain Mode?

If you have headphones with a detachable auxillary cord, plug the cord in but don't have it plugged into the headphones yet. After the phone recognizes it, plug the cable to the headphones and you'll be in aux mode. Standard mode is normal audio and won't have volume change though sound profile becomes a bit better.

Slight warning but higher gain can damage some audio equipment if you're not careful.

About a week into the MM update and battery life continues to be excellent.
