The 6p is hands down the best phone ever made!

Best android device I've owned up until the last update! Connectivity issues since. With both 3g and 4g. Exclamation mark a lot after either symbol. Slow connection . I will show 4g but no days transfer taking place with the arrows missing. Like it's in limbo.
Bluetooth OK though

I love this phone as well. Only one thing would make it 100% perfect.........for it to be the same size as my S6 Active. The 5X doesn't seem to be on the same tech and screen level as these 2 or I would have gotten it.

Question for nexus 6p owners : i am almost decided to go with the n6p
I should go for the graphite version, but I am wondering how the colour is going after several months.
I saw pictures with the colour gone: Is a case mandatory to avoid this ? Or maybe a skin ?
Thx

Eh. After playing around with it for the last 10 days, I think I'll be returning it.

What I love about the phone:
- the fingerprint sensor
- the software and its updates
- the front-facing speakers
- the build quality

What I don't like:
- the lack of OIS. I took pictures at a party last night in a dimly-lit room and the photos weren't that great. I also took video and when I watched the video later, the shaking of the video almost made me car sick
- the battery life. The battery is 50 mAh smaller than the battery in my S6 active, but my S6 active lasts twice as long on a single charge.
- no IP68 rating
- the stock Google emojis look terrible
- the 5.7 inch screen plus a case can make the phone a bit unwieldy, especially with my small hands. Plus the phone doesn't even fit in my front jeans pocket.

I like the phone, but it's not the phone for me. I think I'd rather have phone that takes photos that turn out nice in low-light situations with a lack of software updates than a phone that gets timely software updates but takes underwhelming low-light photos. I'll be sticking with my S6 active until the S7 active comes out.

I use a case but sometimes take it off around the house. bought it 20 seconds after launch and my 64MB graphite is as nice as the day it came.

I use the Nexus microfiber case and I'm shocked how well the microfiber part has held up. I figured it'd get lint/debris frequently, but just a few occasional wipes with my hand and its stayed remarkably clean.

oh, and I heard some people say the graphite version collects fingerprints. those people must not wash their hands or just naturally gather more oils in their skin cause I haven't experienced that at all.

you'll want a case or skin, more so cause the 6p is a slippery phone, than cause of the color fading.

good luck and enjoy ... it's a great phone that'll only get better with future updates and developers implementing Nexus Imprint into their apps (a process that has been somewhat slow)

only issue for me is the volume button placement. sometimes my phone will ring on the loudest setting cause I accidentally pressed the up button. very annoying.

glad you gave it a shot and its refreshing hearing honest feedback from somebody that actually used the phone. to often on AC (and I'm guilty of it too) people bash a device without even handling it.

I haven't had the same experience with my battery, but as you know that's the most volatile feature on any phone. I consistently get 5 hours SOT and go all day on a single charge. Heavy usage days a 20 minute charge in the evening is alli need to last the rest of the night.

The camera on the S6/Note 5 is second to none. I'm replacing my business phone (S4) hopefully with the S7 largely in part for the camera as I take a lot of before and after pics and YouTube clips for my business. I post them on my blog, Facebook page, website, etc so it's much more of a priority than my personal phone. If I'm in Disney with the fam or somewhere I know I'll be taking a lot of pictures I just grab my DSLR.

You're on your own with the emojis ... I'm not THAT old (36) but I honestly just found out what an emoji even is. My 10 year old son looked at me like I was an alien!

Oh, I'll consider the M10 but it better come correct this year in the camera department. I'm rooting for HTC. I'll also look at the G5 (if they make drastic software changes). USB-C is increasingly important to me since I don't want two separate charger types. Replacing my MacBook this year too so already started the transition and don't want micro USB on any device I buy moving forward and plan to keep 24-36 months.

I really wanted to love the phone, but I can't get past the camera. I don't know why Huawei didn't put OIS in the camera. If it was there, the rest of the negatives I listed wouldn't have been that big of a deal. But it is what it is. Maybe whoever makes the Nexus phone this year will get everything in the hardware department right. It's too bad because I really love the look of the phone too.

yeah in person it looks SO much better. pictures don't do it justice and its one of the nicer looking phones I've seen.

today I was taking video/pictures of my son playing basketball. no smartphone camera takes good pics of 10 year old running around while zooming in, but even when he was somewhat still, lack of OIS is definitely it's achilles heel. I assume they had their heart set on keeping the phone priced under $500 and that just didn't make the cut. I would've gladly paid the extra $50 for it, but surprisingly Google chose to make it more of a consumer friendly device (with their commercials during football/baseball playoffs) so I understand the importance of pricing, which is never easy (just ask BlackBerry)!

This was their best Nexus by far though, and hopefully next year they'll continue to improve. Battery and camera have always been pretty awful on every Nexus, and there were always several features we'd have to sacrifice for stock/updates. This year we didn't have to give anything up, but I've yet to find a perfect phone. For whatever reason there's always something that every OEM omits or does poorly. Just so happens this year for the Nexus it was OIS (and volume button placement).

Oh man, that volume button placement was horrible. My speakers were either too loud or too soft because I always hit the volume up/down buttons. Or I'd accidentally take a picture of the inside of my pocket because of how easy it is to click the power button.

But yes, there's no denying this is the best Nexus phone by far. I had the 6 last year and the 6P is better in every way, but at least the 6 had OIS. :)

The lack of OIS has never been solved, but I don't thing it was a financial decision at all...I think it was a packaging issue. The Sony sensor they picked is not a sensor designed for mobile applications. They sourced a sensor that was designed for use in dedicated still/video cameras. The OIS cradle isn't something that they can just slap on there and send it on its way, phones have zero wiggle room to play with, so things have to be carefully laid out. My guess is that in order to get OIS on this sensor, the compromise would not have been acceptable... most likely the visor bump would have been a little bit bigger... something would have had to change to stuff that in. So they left it out.

For me, it's been really a non-issue. The pictures it takes give up nothing to what I can get out of my wife's G4 (actually, I've been impressed at its low-light performance). The only place I've seen the lack of OIS come into play is video. The videos are not as steady as an OIS phone, but the EIS does a good enough job in many circumstances that I'm fine with it. There's so many other things about the phone that I've come to appreciate, the lack of OIS gets pushed way down my own list of complaints (or even registers as one).

But everyone's use case is different of course.

That's fair. I love everything about the 6p, but taking videos of my kids in the best possible quality is important to me because I want to be able to go back and hear their voices when they are grown. I sent the 6p back and bought a Note 5 on swappa for the same price. There are many things about the Note I don't like, but stable 4k video with stereo audio won out. Here's hoping the HTC variants have OIS.

For me personally, the three most important things on a phone for me are:

1. How smooth it runs. Is it fast? Does it stay fast after having it for a few months? Does it randomly restart, crash, freeze, etc?

2. Battery life. Can I get through a full day or more with normal use? Can it charge quickly? Can I carry a spare battery?

3. Ergonomics. Is it easy to hold and use? Will it fit in my pocket?

I give the 6P high marks for all three categories, but especially #1. Even months later, this phone is still fast and smooth. Having owned two Samsung devices previously, I can tell you that this isn't usually the case. Although I wish I had a spare battery (I got used to having one nearby for my Note 4), I've hardly ever needed one to get me through a full day of normal to heavy use. The 6P is also the perfect size for me in terms of use and practicality of carrying around.

now that you said that I'm realizing what these flippin random pictures are ... camera must be accidentally going off in my pocket, lol

there's a recent thread about a bumper, forget the company that makes em but supposedly it protects the volume and camera buttons from accidentally adjusting.

grabbing one in black and another in blue ... should go well with a skin

I've had mine since mid November and its been great! No problems at all with the phone, no bends, no screen problems and battery life is amazing. Coming from an LG G3 which I loved this phone makes me forget about the G3. I thought the bigger size would bother me but its not much bigger then the G3 also never liked phones with no external memory BUT the 64GB is plenty of space even with all of my music.

Build quality and feel is great! Phone feels awesome in my hands and I did put a spigen case on it with a screen protector. I love being able to go to sleep and forgetting to charge and wakeup to a near full battery.

Changed from wired headphones to bluetooth just because I dont like the headphone jack at the top of the phone annoying when trying to read an article and wire gets in the way of the screen.

Had to get use to the side buttons again, coming from G3 its easy to hit them by mistake but since November im pretty use to them now.

OIS doesn't work with moving subjects. It's only for camera shake. It's not actually a big deal at this wide angle focal length because you can hand hold at a much slower shutter speed. I regularly get sharp images as low as 1/15 of a second.

What I learnt on this thread: If you have kids, don't get 6P. If you don't (like me), it's the best phone ATM. Also, @Leo Rex should change his name to Leo Rex Zen. The man makes the most logical and sane points, and commands respect. Another fave on AC is Girl Interrupted.
