The Galaxy Note 22 Ultra

You can bet Verizon is only doing it for their profit margins. Samsung does manufacture Qualcomm chips; but have read that Qualcomm may pull all or some of the manufacturing of the 8 Gen 1 chips from Samsung over to TSMC. In this world, a person has no idea who makes their chip in the phone, just who's design it is.
Thats interesting, thought TSMC would be Samsung rival?

For some components, only a select few companies can supply enough chips, and it's common for a manufacture to switch suppliers. It can even happen mid-run, where two supposedly identical devices have chips from different suppliers.

That we know as you get either the snapdragon or Exynos chip in same phone depending on region , but if Samsung as a semi conductor company supplier having issues then you think the others like Qualcomm,TMSC ,Mediteck others in same boat ? Maybe they work together until the industry gets it resolved.

Galaxy S22 Ultra Base Variant Could Feature Just 8GB Of RAM

https://www.androidheadlines.com/2022/01/galaxy-s22-ultra-base-variant-8gb-ram.html

I would like to see the pricing schedules for all the possible options on the S22U before saying good or bad.

If this helps to keep the price down for us non-power users and those who will use the S-pen for a toothpick, this might be a good move.

I will note my 4XL has run capably on 6gb ram with no problems; so 8gb sounds ok; provided the pricing reflects the lower amount.

"Those interested in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra premium device will have to be prepared to shell out big numbers. The base model with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB is attached to a price of €1,430.00 (US$1,616) while the top-end S22 Ultra goes for €1,544.50 (US$,1746) and offers 512 GB storage alongside the whopping 12 GB memory."

If these prices stated are correct, I'll move on to another phone. However, the article did not note the price for a 128gb or the rumored 8gb RAM. But even dropping the price a few hundred drives this phone up too darn high.
Samsung says they want to take the crown back as biggest cell phone manufacturer, but raising the price of this model anymore than already priced for the S21 is ludicrous. (Remember, the S20 was more expensive than the S21 and Samsung dropped the prices to gain back share.)

Just because they add an S-pen to a phone that was a big seller without an S-pen? I could see adding the S-pen and then adding 8gb option voiding out the price of the S-pen while giving plenty of RAM for users; other than heavy duty old NOTE users and they will have options to add more RAM and memory.

These rumored prices have me looking other places like OnePlus 10 Pro and still keeping my eye out on the Pixel 6 to see if the future software update fixes the reported problems (especially with connections).

Price an Ultra even with 8gb RAM at the same price as last year for the S21, and I'll order. RANT OVER.....

So, they get rid of the SD card phones, and then they charge an extra $150 to go from 256 to 512. I wonder if there are other models with more available space? And how many mortgages do I have to take out for them?

Like you say, maybe it's just time to go in a different direction.

Well, there is a rumor of a 1tb option but you might have to take out another mortgage on the phone.

Latest video...for what it's worth; not much new but....

Those prices??? uhhh No Thanks!!!! My s21 ultra will serve me well again this year...
Rather have Fold 3 or 4 for that price , Good luck Samsung.

More rumors but more favorable rumors but still; only Rumors.

"We’re expecting much of the same for the Galaxy S22 this year, although tech tipster TheGalox_ claimed on Twitter in November that there will be a small $50 to $100 (£37 to £74) price increase across the range. They also claimed the minimum storage option will double from 128GB to 256GB, helping to soften the blow of a price rise. It should be made clear that these are just rumours for now, though."

If a $100 buck increase over the S21 ultra 126gb would make it $1299; however, if it comes with 256gb, that puts it only $50 over the S21 price for the ultra with 256gb.

When will Samsung’s S22 ultra be released in the UK?

That's what I say if those prices are correct. However, I did read another article last night that some are saying Samsung will keep the S22 prices very close to the S21 prices; primarily because of competition coming from likes of Oneplus 10. Just read this article on the Oneplus 10 Pro's camera system...

They will need to or sales wont be there

Yea, those first posted Rumor prices, do price the S22U and all other S22s out into the Galaxy.

I don't know how important outright pricing is really. Most customers will be buying the phone on a plan through a carrier, so they're not going to be paying the full $$$ up front. They'll be buying it though a carrier and paying it off in installments.

In addition to that, I believe the S20 line was more expensive across the board than the S21 line was, and yet, the S21 series sold less than the S20 series. So demand is somewhat inelastic to price.

I've often wondered about that. I, however, don't buy through a carrier, although PayPal or whatever builds in a little extra time to pay. But sure, a lot of people have other arrangements. Those include sometimes trade-in value on the current phone. But still. Add spiraling prices. Add the loss of SD card which makes people want larger internal sizes. It's getting pretty pricey.

Here's another option: keep what you have and upgrade less often. Instead of buying the latest model, if you need a new phone, buy last year's model and stay a model year behind. Or even replicate the one you have. At the moment, it wouldn't be so hard to get another Note 20 Ultra, which is what I have now. I'm seriously considering this. The one I have now plus a new Note 20 Ultra in reserve--that combo might well get me through 7 to 10 years. If I change my mind, they have resale and trade-in value, although that depends in part on when I change my mind.

Really--what does the "latest greatest" upgrading get me any more? The features are already so good, how much more do I need? The Note 20 gives me everything I want. The newer models seem to take away something I want. What's the incentive to upgrade?

No upgrading--the price is free this year. :)

You're most likely correct; most people are likely to purchase via a carrier; reason carriers still sell phones. And reading the posts, it appears that is the case. I'm on an MVNO running off Verizon towers and cannot remember the last time I financed a phone via a carrier or other means. Heck, cannot remember the last time I financed anything except my mortgage and that was for tax write-offs.

And most likely, I will end up purchasing the S22 Ultra even if I am looking elsewhere. Even if they popped the price to around $1400. It's only money, and being 74, I have only a short time to spend it all. And most likely it will be via Samsung.com or possibly Amazon (where I purchased my 4XL).

OnePlus10 Pro might be interesting, but have a problem of purchasing phones from "Chinese Owned" companies; so before someone jumps in and starts yelling racist....hold on, I have no problem with Chinese companies like Foxconn making a phone (my Pixel 4XL was made by Foxconn). No problems with companies from Japan, S. Korean or Taiwan, just the PRC. But I'm too old to say "never."

Looking at the S22U or possibly the Sony Experia models; I III or possibly the big pro model. But so far this S22 looks the most appealing and practical. I want a decent camera so I no longer have to lug around a Nikon 850 with some heavy lenses to get photos. Ready to move on to a good cell phone with some good cameras, that is known for reliability. Thus, the reason to upgrade; besides, I usually purchase a new phone every two years, so basically, I have till March and it will be two years. And that appears to be about the timeline for the S22s to be available in the USA.

And I did have an S20 for a few weeks, but the first ones out had big problems with the FPS. A few weeks after I returned mine, they did have a software update that helped it, but the big fix came with the S21 with a newer model sensor and it was 77% larger. That seemed to fix the problem.
