Well I'll tell you this Duncs, if the G3 and the Note 4 had both come out together now, instead of the former being months in advance of the latter and of practically all other QHD decices, I'd choose the G3. Nothing against the N4, obviously a superb device, but if you don't need the latest processor etc I see little advantage. Comparing the two side by side in a store I could not see VERY much difference between them on the surface, and what's under the surface is not enough to justify the much higher price of the N4 for me personally. Same really comparing with other devices.
Nope, my G3 and I are going to be together for a long time....unless one of us dies in fact, heh heh.

I was thinking after I posted the above, there's nothing about the G3 I dislike, tho' a Lumia 1020 camera or similar on it would be wonderful.
M. Python? Yes. And sometimes when members ask, as they often do here and there in the forums, Should I upgrade to a such-and-such device or wait until so-and-so comes out, my inclination is to answer, in all seriousness, Don't wait, you might drop dead tomorrow...buy now. But I'm not persuaded that it would go down very well, though true.

Did you try the S pen? If not then that's why. The Note is defined by its S pen.. Which makes it different than the others. I love the S pen since it helps on the forums when I can draw on screenshots... I also love snipping things from websites so I can send them easily.. But those are my needs and not everyone could find use for it.
Otherwise without the S pen you're right.. Not much difference.

My G3's camera is decent as far as phones go, but yeah, I recently got a 1020. Very impressed, it will be tough to settle for another phone's camera again.
Still seems okay for me Alms....I clicked on the Transformers 4 trailer:

luckily i managed to get it back... its back to stock and lost all files. but its better than a stuffed phone...
when i installed the rom which i thought was correct...it does say 32gb but only 2g ram... i don't see how that is possible? i have the international 32gb and 3g version....
is there a link to the correct stock rom? also... if i go to update centre it says no updates even though I'm on V10a
I'm happy with the G3, now that's it rooted and tweaked to eliminate the lag that it started with. No the lag wasn't horrible, but it was definitely there.
But is it head and shoulders above everything else? No. All the flagships are excellent, and all have flaws. They all have basically the same hardware with minor differences here and there. Yes, I consider the QuadHD screen minor, because you really can't see the difference. The difference between an 801 and 805 is pretty minor most of the time, too.
In spite of the higher resolution, the screen on the G3 simply isn't as good as that on my son's S5. The SAMOLED screen is much easier to read in sunlight, and has a much wider viewing angle. (The G3's screen dims noticeably when viewed off angle, as when it's lying flat on a desk. The S5's doesn't.)
I'm getting used to the rear buttons, but I'm still not completely sold on them. Fortunately, I don't have to actually use them very often.
But I like having a removable back and battery and SD card support (unlike Moto and Nexus), and it looks and feels way better than the Samsung phones. And while it's as big as the HTC One, at least all the space is used, and not filled with wasted black space.
So if I were going to buy today, I'm pretty sure I'd stil choose the G3. Nexus 6 and Note 4 are just too big, Moto X and HTC One don't have a removable battery., I also hate the huge bezels and black space on the One, and couldn't care less that it's metal and has front facing speakers. The S5 is too ugly. If I were to choose something else, though, it would probably be the S5 just for it's screen.
