Duncan, I noticed your rave review of the Z2 on this forum and it was one that I always referred back to and helped me pull the trigger and get the Z2 when I already had the G3. I'm curious what your thoughts are between the two devices and what exactly is leaning you towards the G3. I personally find the battery life on the Z2 to be far superior, while overall performance is on par.
Well like you I have the Z2 still and when the G3 launched I thought I wanted to try it out (curiosity surrounding the button placement initially).
Sounds like a very basic reason but I was curious with the G2 but held off because it didn't have further expansion.
The G3 has this and the removable battery, I also had the N3 and liked the screen size and thought well the G3 has 5.5" so I will sell my Note and Nexus 5 and purchase the G3.
The G3 & Z2 are both very great devices, both have their own strengths and weaknesses. The Z2 does have superior battery life, camera has the edge is most departments, but the G3's shooter seems very slightly better in lowlight and is quicker to focus (but I like both).
Luckily I didn't need yo have a strong decision process lol as that would be hard, although I would still lean towards the Z2 just and hmm maybe see its hard lol
The G3 has a good battery that sees me through the day, but with the Z2 you know that your safe. where with heavy use on the G3 you may need that boost.
So what made me pick out the G3 and why I like it,
The Screen, features, camera, design, removable battery, expandable storage.
Why I like it, its comfy in had feel, nice size screen in a relatively small form, knock code, guest mode, screen is a joy to watch videos and read articles on, it takes photo's quickly with that laser autofocus, the rear buttons (rarely use) but with no buttons on the side it changes the way you interact with the G3 and I like it a lot, performance has been kind to me thus far.
The Z2 is just like the G3 really nice build perhaps that bit more of a premium feel over the G3, the dedicated 2 stage shutter button, the light and clean Ui, the Camera has a nicely designed app, along with the music library and player and with the noise cancellation, screen is beautiful and crisp and clear, performance is so nice and fluid and its waterproof apparently for six weeks in 10m of water according to one article of someone's experience ( but I wouldn't personally test this) but nice to know its possible lol
Overall both are great and I'm fortunate not to have to decide between the two.
Right now I'm still using the G3 and have been since I received it at launch.
But all this talk about the two, think I will switch back to the Z2 well because I can.
Hope I didn't ramble to much
