Till a week ago I was a BlackBerry user so bear with me.
I have no idea how there are so many evo 3d's are getting 24 hours when with JD I cant get 12 w/ moderate use.
There must be sorftware running in the background. How do I manage the software that is chewing the battery, and stop it from continuing?

I noticed that I got better life after I changed the lock screen theme to not have the weather "rush" animation.

Removed weather from the lock screen, this phone is great to tinker with! It's an ongoing experiment.

There are a few posts on xda and here too I'm sure on how to get good battery life. Don't use task managers BTW and once sense ROM are available those should get way better than sense ones

July fourth morning update: restarted the phone last night after placing it to charge to reset battery counters. This morning both up and away were practically identical at 6 hours a piece.
What steps do I take to disable news, stocks, qik, and other software from starting in the background.

Some here like myself use juice defender plus. Set up what ever app you don't want running when screen is off. Also go to menu settings, power, and set up the way you wish. I have it set up to not allow anything to update in the background.

Currently have my orange juice turned off till I tweak the battery as best as possible w/o it.
By not allowing updates in the background, does that stop emails too?

I really not sure. I have my email set to manual. I go to email if i want to check email. Don't like them auto coming to me or any notifications from email.

I think the battery life is really good... I know everyone speculated the 3D would drain the battery like crazy. I rarely use my phone to talk these days so that probably helps my battery life.

Worst case I'm seeing 6 hours of battery life; this is with a lot of 3D gaming using 4G connection at all times. Played Let's Golf 2 in 3D mode max 3D multiplayer online for a while. Watched some 3D movie a little here and there to show off the phone. I can definitely go through the day and not have to worry about the battery. I do have a USB charger in the car so I plug it in on my drives so it works out perfectly. My only complaint would be the charge duration if you use the USB from the computer vs say a wall outlet. Good thing is I have an extra wall outlet usb plug handy and just have it in my bag at all times anyways so works out.

for the past 2 days, my battery has lasted only around 5-6 hours when in use. I wasn't browsing the web that heavily on it, mostly took a bunch of 2D photos (some with flash, some not roughly 10pics total), connected to wifi the whole time, played word with friends for a while, and most of the time spent was playing robotek. weird because at work, i was connected to 4G for 5+ hours while browsing the net the whole time and the phone lasted over 8 hours.

So far my findings:
Turn off live wallpaper, turn off weather from the lock screen, don't allow your accounts that you don't use to sync, delete the qik app if you have it, open up Google talk and open the settings to turn off automatic sign in.

Keep a close look on your up & awake times in home>menu>settings>about>battery. The farther apart they are the better battery life will be.

Post up your battery details, and the forum will help.

Juice defender & juice plotter will help navigate you to long battery life while still getting use out of the phone.

Ditto. With light usage over the holiday weekend, I manged 43 hours before going on the charger at 19%. Once again, this was with light usage and customizing Juice Defender Plus to manage my apps individually.

How long does it take to charger the 3D? Its takes nearling 5 hours to fully charge with the phone powered off. Is this normal or do I have a defective battery?

If you have not alrady done so, your battery drain will be reduced by:

Logging into Google Talk in your application, listed under Talk. Go to Settings and un check Automatic Sign On and then log off of Google Talk.

Use a Brightness Widget program called Brightness Level from the market. Allows you to have 0%, 25, 50, 75 and 100% for brightness at the click of the icon. The lower the better, then when outside, up it to 75 to 100%.

I keep GPS on, because unless you see the small GPS Icon in the task bar, it is actually not on and using battery. Also saves from having to manually turn it on each time I use Navigation or Google Maps.

Under Settings and Accounts, I have my HTC Sense and Hub set to manual sync.

I manually sync Weather and Stocks and News.

I get 18 to 24 hours on a single charge with medium use.
