[THEMES] Optimus s Gingerbread Themes

Re: [THEMES] Optimus s Gingerbread Themes (WIP) -- 9/22/11

Hey, I asked a few days ago about modyfiying your themes... I am super confused! Ive been rooting and ROMing for a little under a year now, but am new to theming, Right now I'm using ChillOut, I would apreciate a theme with Red Colors, If someone could tell me how to do this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Ask him to make RedRum available for gingerbread. It had lots of red. My favorite from Reborn.

Downlod 7zip. Use 7zip to open (open not extract...you can edit the zip without extracting it) the zip file for the theme of your choice. Go into System>App>SystemUI.apk>res>drawable-mdpi. Once you are in the drawable-mdpi folder locate the following files

shade_bg.png = Background for the notification window
shade_header_background.9.png = Header background for the notification window
status_bar_close_on.9.png = Footer background for the notification window
statusbar_background.9.png = Just started messing w/ this today but seem to be part of notification.
title_bar_portrait.9.png = Title bar background

You can search around for other theme elements but since I'm not trying to change the entire theme these are what I have been dealing with mostly.

Basically just use an image editor (I use IrfanView and Photoshop Elements 10) to edit these files as you see fit. Once you edit them, save them as the exact name and place them inside the archive in their original location and save. When you go to flash the theme you will have to disable signature verification for it to work. Personally I like the chillout theme in general so I have not been changing the color scheme too much. I have just been adding symbols, pictures, etc to the bars and notification window. Looks pretty awesome lol. If you are looking for a red theme you will probably want them to port RedRum over though because editing a theme like chillout and trying to turn all of the blue red would probably be a pain in the ars lol.

:) No worries....at least someone has a life lol. I learned a long time ago to be thankful for what I've got and anything new is just icing on the cake. Thanks for all the effort you've put in already, just know it is greatly appreciated. The more I play with these themes the more I realize how much work it would be to make an entirely new one.

Yes, it requires quite a bit of time and effort for sure. I started right where you are now, and became more and more curious which led me to dig deeper and deeper. Once you are comfortable with editing the images, grab apktool or apkmanager and then you can decompile the apk's and edit the .9.png's properly and also play with the xml files. That is where the fun really begins IMO. (and the headaches, lol)

Just flashed it, also added an awesome wallpaper, will post screenshots in a bit.

Re: [THEMES] Optimus s Gingerbread Themes -- 10/23/11

Just wondering could I simply copy the PNGs from an old theme to a new one, and It would work?

Yes as long as they are the proper size and are named exactly the same basically any png will work.

Yeah I plan on playing with the xml files while i'm at work this week lol. I tried opening them with notepad but apparently I need an xml editor because it was just a bunch of gibberish for the most part lol.

You have to decompile the apk first. ;)

This stuff is awesome! I've always wanted to start theming and stuff... I'm going to use RedRum as the base for the theme that I'd like to make as it has a similar color scheme... also, Once I'm done... would you mind me redistributing it as long as I give you credit as the original creator?

I don't mind one bit. Have fun!

This Is loads of fun... I've done quite a bit of work on it... I'm copying some aspects from bluechill, as well as making some files completely from scratch... Just having a bit of trouble with the buttons.

Re: [THEMES] Optimus s Gingerbread Themes -- 10/23/11

Also, how can I make it so I don't have to disable verification?
