Those of you with ICS...whatcha think?

Were you rooted? I keep reading conflicting posts in other areas that you have to be rooted for this to work.

I wasnt rooted before but had to, to load it after i had a few issues getting it loaded, but happy i did it.

I loaded ICS on Friday last week (211). Here are just some random thoughts:
Pros:
1) So far, I have not had contacts auto-join. That was my biggest gripe
2) seems pretty smooth
3) I love new things to play around with (the inner geek showing through)

Cons:
1) Email stopped functioning. Said "Waiting for sync". After trying everything, I had to delete all my accounts and start over. Seems OK so far.
2) I seem to have worse battery life. Dead by 15 hours.
3) No massages box where it shows you each account separately (I always used that)

How you do some things has changed completely. No more long press on screen to add a widget. No double tap home button to bring up all windows view. Uninstall app is now different.

My biggest hope was to end the auto-joining of my contacts. I think ICS cured it, so I can live with anything else.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the ICS build supports global GSM roaming? I'm traveling internationally next week, and would love to not have to reactivate my Bold for the trip.

I've read in a few places that ICS will make the Maxx global (though I'm still waiting for ICS myself).

Yea there is a setting for Global and GSM in Network settings now.

I love it! As others have mentioned, it's smoother and quicker all around. Signal seems good and the blue highlights are nice too.

I was rooted and had enabled the 'free' hotspot by changing system settings (as on YouTube). I 'defrosted' all my apps (using Titanium Backup), then used Voodoo OTA to keep the root. I upgraded to ICS, then re-enabled the root, then 'froze' the apps I don't use. After this, I checked and my 'free' hotspot is still working.

YMMV mine has been improved. All comes down to signal and usage. The only two things I've found that effect my battery.

Me too. My battery life on ics is no better or worse than on gingerbread. He must have a rogue app.

McIrish stated a few posts up that he was seeing only 15 hrs now. I'm concerned about that as well and so are they. I guarantee it's one of the hold ups on the roll out. It's also to be expected. If you read the forums on the Nexus S ics release, you'll see that they initially had battery reductions also but appeared to get better over time. I'll go review their forums again. Seems like there was an update to their ics rollout. Will check on that.

It will record in portrait but the stock video player automatically turns landscape to view it and it's sideways. However if you use a player like MX player it works fine.
